For me, it’s 100% about positive self talk and mini goals. Instead of trying to motivate myself to run 5 miles, it’s one 100ft section at a time. Fix a goal I can see, then run there and give myself a mental high five for getting there. Then do it again one more time. And then one more time and on and on til I get to the end.
This is covered in a lot or depression literature, where you need to literally rewire your brain to defeat the attempt to reach homeostasis, which has become a depressed state. Little positive actions and thoughts that eventually rewire the neural pathways and create new ones little by little. If you want to learn more about that, the technical side made very understandable by a psychologist and neuroscientist who specializes in depression and anxiety, you should check out “The Upward Spiral”. It’s really good and i highly recommend it. It has helped me start the healing and coping process.
Milking the deaths of beloved celebrities for fake internet points and people destroying their “F” keys as though someone just died in a video game, like r🤮ddit did with Carrie Fisher, Technoblade, Shinzo Abe, the Queen of England…
I think we need to give it some time. I was not there when Digg went bad but I’m assuming that in the early days of Reddit, there was a lot of discussion about Digg. Once Reddit reached a critical mass, posts about Digg died down.
Also Meta wants to join the fediverse with Threads.
A lot of it is just people talking about their social media ex, but it IS part of a larger discussion about taking the internet back from corporations.
To make the ex metaphor. Talking shit about your ex is not productive but talking about what was wrong or didn’t work can be very insightful. Entirely blocking your ex out of your mind is a pretty easy way to make the same mistakes again.
I can see why people think it’s annoying but I think this is also a good thing. Talking about this helps people understand what they want to see in their communities or instances.
Well the app is currently in the earlier phases of development but i think more people should know that there is currently an attempt at porting slide for reddit to lemmy. here is the releases from the repository github.com/bqv/slide/releases, but its very early in development
“The hard way is the easy way” has always rung true because when you take short cuts you end up making more work for yourself. Maybe the thing didn’t fit because you didn’t take the time to measure it properly, or you didn’t calibrate the machine. Or you made assumptions that turned out untrue because you didn’t take the time to fully research them or whatever.
Do the work up front, or it increases exponentially. I literally despise this quote. Growing up I hated when my dad quoted it at me. And I’m a little disgusted with myself for agreeing with him now haha. But it’s so true.
“Documentation is the name of the game”: My dad was a union president for the board of Ed in my town growing up. He had to deal with a lot of he-said-she-said cases. But whoever can prove what they’re saying with proper, timestamped documentation always wins the case.

Just installed it. It looks like Apple’s UI, which gives it a kind of uncanny valley on my Android phone. Will use alongside Liftoff until I like one better, thanks for mentioning it!
Update: I won’t be staying on Wefwef because it keeps causing Firefox Nightly to crash and not saving my spot when I switch apps, and I’m not willing to get the Firefox stable release again because the way it reloads pages every time you switch apps drives me mad.
Also, it seems to cache images so that you can open them immediately upon tapping, rather than having to wait for the image to load after your explicit tap for it to do so. I really liked this at first, but it comes at the cost of taking around eight full seconds to load everything, as compared to one or two seconds with Liftoff and Connect.
I do wish Liftoff and Connect had the compact view with image/link previews that Jerboa and Wefwef have, though.
After listening to you, I now use wefwef (on Chrome) almost exclusively because of the compact home view. There are no issues with slow initial loading time or glitching out upon switching apps. Thanks!!
“Psh, friends? Who needs them? They roll more off the line every day.”
Sounds super callous out of context, but the guy was incredibly friendly and kind. He had originally moved across the country to where his wife was living, and at this point they were going through a really bad divorce. I strongly suspect his local support network was entirely her friends, and they were turning their backs on him. I always took it as advice on being unafraid to remove the people who are dragging you down, and be confident that there are better ones out there.
Damn, y’all have so much stuff. I kinda put my faith in the internet and hoped that civilization doesn’t collapse and torrent stuff whenever I want to watch them.
Given that a movie can be between 1GB and 50GB depending on source and compression used, you can't know that. You can find game of thrones downloads that are 30GB per episode. At 1080. If you go for high quality with a nzb setup, it fills up really fast.
Also my setup is used by multiple people and that's probably fairly common. So maybe "I" can't watch that much, but "we" can.
And who does that? I mean, that’s just a huge cost for what? Slightly sharper nipples on screen?
How often do you think, you’ll watch, say GoT? Twice? Why bother building half a data center in your house for the off chance that you might, at some point, maybe want to consider to watch that one movie again?
It’s a hobby, I get that. But arguing that it’s useful is like saying you’re restoring that 50s car in your garage for driving to work or grocery shopping. We all know, that’s not the reason.
And saying it's a huge cost... 60TB in a raid 5 setup will cost you less than $2k. That's really not much for most US households. Especially when that setup lasts for years.
It will take years of the community requesting for it (on the non-federated platforms) unless someone really high up in the right org has a personal interest in doing it.
