I now constantly test myself to see if I’m overlooking the truth. Refusal to admit reality or refusal to acknowledge an unpleasant truth can ultimately hold you back.
Often times, for me, it’s not even a refusal. Certain situations or emotions I sort of just “I’ll deal with that later” and then never do. I mean to, eventually, but just procrastinate it until it’s a legitimate delusion
Admittedly, it's been a long time since I did anything with linux, but I have done some. I'm not a developer, I don't know how to write any code. I know some DOS scripting and now some powershell. If I need to do anything slightly different with linux, it would require me to learn a whole new scripting language, and all of the documentation I've seen for anything linux seems to be written for an audience of people who already really know what they're doing in linux and just need a specific reference material.
I've had mainly Windows machines all my life, I have been forced by necessity to figure out how to do what I need on those. I imagine if I'd had linux machines since ... 1995? I would feel as comfortable with linux now. But the barrier to entry to even having a linux machine, let alone making it do what I needed it to do, back in the late 90s, early 2000s, was way higher than it was for Windows. It arguably still is.

and and then a few specific sodas are listed but no generic? seems like it should be cola flavored sodar, citrus flavored soda, other flavored soda or something.
When you’re screwing up and nobody says anything to you anymore that means they’ve given up on you…you may not want to hear it but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you and want to make you better.
Things can’t be fresh and new(ish) experiences forever. Welcome to entropy of the mind. However, there are always more fresh experiences out there for you to marvel at, you just have to find them.
It wants to keep control of how people get access to its data. The recent massive surge of interest in A.I.s means that there’s a lot of people looking for good quality datasets to train new models. Reddit is sitting on a goldmine, and it currently handing out gold nuggets for free.
It wants to charge these desperate users of its data through the nose for that access, and $12,000 per 50M API calls is the market rate it has determined (and it is clearly comfortable that existing commercial users of its data such as marketers will also pay those rates).
The fact that this will kill third party clients is just the icing on the cake. If reddit wanted to kill such clients it would just turn off voting and comments in the API.
AI datasets can be built by scrubbing web content and doesn’t require API access.
This is about making sure Reddit controls the user experience and users can’t, say, block their ads or hide Reddit awards. It’s also a cold (and short-sighted) calculation: some people are making money from our product without sharing our costs, better kill them.
Tried out a few times in the 90s and early 2000s and the biggest barrier was lack of support for video cards and other hardware that I needed for gaming. It was also more complex to set up at that time, and windows was both easier to work with and resolving issues was easier to figure out.
In all cases I was dual booting and after a while just stopped trying with Linux because the other option was easier, not because I disliked Linux.
Haven't tried recently because windows 10 and 11 have been rock stable for me and Windows Defender plus Firefox and ublock origin have made it safe to use windows. While I thought about giving it a go again recently, I just don't have a reason to switch when things are going to well and I don't have time anymore to just fiddle with it due to other priorities.
I do keep an eye out though in case I do a media server or something as that would be a good use case for another go.
What he needs is lighter fluid, not butane or gasoline.
Butane is a gas that’s stored under pressure as a liquid, there’s no way to add that to a Zippo unless you get one with a butane insert (which he doesn’t have since his has a wick)
Lighter fluid (which is basically/mostly naphtha) is a flamable liquid used in zippo type lighters.
There’s also charcoal lighter fluid which is still another flamable liquid that’s usually either mineral spirits or alcohol based.
