Not a feature but I do miss phones having side bezels. You could firmly hold your phone and not disturb the content on your phone. I can barely use youtube now because i keep touching my screen apparently
I don’t feel that way about side bezels but i do think that chunky top and bottom bezels like those of the Xperia are better than a notch and also has room for better speakers
I miss the home phisical button and back/menu touch ‘button’ on tablet and phones. Having to swipe down from the top, then press the right symbol at the bottom before they disappear again is a mess.
Definitely try the “swipe” navigation. I had no idea the other (old?) navigation scheme existed as it has probably been a decade now. I vaguely remember one of my old phones introducing it, and that was the end of the buttons on the bottom. Did the non-stock versions of Android not do that?
I still miss buttons, but with how tall/wide the screens are, the question is where do you put them. I really need to try and get a smaller phone once this one dies…
I think this is why AskReddit made their posts title only, with no pictures or texts. OP’s question was about gadgets, but then they included a picture of a smartphone and used the text to mention smartphones. It then brainwashed everyone else to misread the question.
Haha you’re right. I focused too much on the comments and had forgotten the title by the time I got this far. I had been convinced by them that phones were in fact the subject.
To give a contrary answer; I think it would be a sign that Reddit has turned in the right direction and might actually become a good platform again. A reformed Reddit is infinitely better than whatever Meta are planning.
Exactly … and the lesson then wouldn’t be to ditch lemmy/kbin/fediverse and declare “we only need reddit now”. The lesson would be that you need countermeasures to keep the corps honest and you should never let up on such pressures.
I have just the opposite problem. They keep calling me and they never seem to remember that I already bought one from them. Still, the sales people are extremely patient when I list off all the problems with one of my vehicles and ask about every single excruciating detail about what their coverage offers. Sometimes I’ll get distracted and start talking about my fish. They are pretty fish too! One is a goldfish and the other is a beta. The beta is a silly little thing and likes to jump out of the water when it is about to get fed. She’ll even try to give you kisses if you put your nose really close to the water. The goldfish though… eesh. I think I have had him for about 5-6 years already. We tried to put him in with a beta once, but Goldie tried to kiss Nuggets and missed and swallowed her by mistake. Oops! I feel bad about Nuggets, but mistakes happen. After we put him on time out for a bit, we think he learned his lesson. Does anyone else have tips to keep bully fish tame? We have tried everything, but nothing seems to work. We’ll get it right one day. My kids think I am crazy, but that is OK. Oh, I gotta tell you about what my kids did the other day! …
It would be just like them to try and jump on the train. They will try and do it in some way that allows them to absorb content without letting any Reddit content leak out. However they will likely do it in a buggy, half-assed way that doesn’t really work right before it gets abandoned and left to rot.
With OLED screens its kind of crazy that simulated notification lights aren’t a thing. You could have all the other pixels off except for a dot on the screen which would act as a notification light when the display was off.
I miss the instant channel switching on old analog tv sets. Everything now is digital so the switching is done with microprocessors, but on old sets you could flip through about 5 channels a second, as fast as you could press the button.
We had the knob but it broke off. So we had a pair of pliers sitting on top of the TV to turn the dial (from 2 through 13).
My friends weren’t as poor so they’d have a converter box. It had an actual remote and that sound it made as it flipped through all the channels. I can’t even describe the sound but if you know, you know it.
I had found one at home with only knobs, and at the time I dug that out of the attic, the only TV it could receive was state TV. An B&W. Still, It was amazing to me that i could even receive TV wireless. Turning those knobs felt… decisive!
You can add emojis and special characters to your regular username, like the wolf icon in my displayed name. If that’s what you meant, then those don’t need to have a meaning.
If you still mean something else, a screenshot would be nice. You can blur the username of the screenshotted person if you’re feeling more comfortable that way. ;)
Thanks Wolf Link. The icon I was referring to is attached to my post (a red person with a red slash across it) and it is located between the user’s avatar and the user name. Your wolf is located to the right of your username, so the icon I’m referring to is on the left of the username.

You can add emojis anywhere, so it doesn’t really matter where exactly it is. Just to demonstrate it; I temporarily added a checkmark and an exclamation mark to my username ;)
The symbol you posted however… i’ve not seen that on the site so far. Does Jerboa have custom icons maybe?
There is a difference between the display name (Wolf Link) and the handle (@justlookingfordragon ) the display name is initially, by default, the first part of the handle, as it is with your account. But you can change it. If you are linking the user, you have to use the handle, which is unique.
Voyager seems to ignore the display name and just displays the first part of the handle on its own. Which is indeed kind of confusing.
For the justice league there was a different director. Why the hell wouldn’t this movie, where he was the director, be the directors cut. Was there some kind of public split with netflix?
You should just watch it. It’s fun to watch. It’s not really deep, but there is lots of action and it looks great. There are 15 characters but only 3 are developed hero and 2 villians. Most of the characters have no effect on the film and could have been 100% cut out with no loss of plot.
I liked the worlds and the development of the main conflict. The action was on point and the main character was well acted.
The final cut of a movie is often not the directors cut. The director gives the studio their cut, and then studio executives get to do what they want. Good execs with good directors know not to fuck with a good thing. But if the movie the director hands in stinks or if some bad audience previews get execs scared all kinds of things can happen
Basically, this is why the idea of a directors cut even exists. Because what you see is rarely what the director handed in when they were done.
But this is streaming and Zach Snyder was hired on the premise that he delivers his vision. There is no studio jumping in to make cuts.
Studios view the movie as a product. This process has a physical requirement to consume it of 2 hours. The point of cuts is to have more screenings in one room rather than hiring 2 rooms to show the movie. That studio integrity is met with frustration when they keep a movie as the director intended and the theater has 4 screening per day because it’s a 3 hour movie with 15 minutes between showings for cleaning.
Movie theaters are also putting pressure on the studio for short movies because they want people to move through the theater. Movie theaters don’t care about what they show as long as it brings in bodies who will eat and drink concessions. The movies are the feed and people are the cattle to be processed as quickly as possible.
The theaters want a shorter movie and the studio wants a shorter movie, so really the only person who can hold up the idea of a long movie is the director with the promise the movie will guarantee repeat viewings despite the smaller number of screenings. And Zach Snyder can’t make that promise.
His movies are the narrative equivalent of a Michael Bay movie - except Bay has better narrative and understands how to build tension. Snyder is incapable of making a low budget movie about genuine people. He is only talented when picking the color of blaster shots. His characters are trash. His plots are boring. His camera work nearly incomprehensible. There is no amount of work he can do to make his original cut work because there is nothing of substance that was cut out.
Streaming studios are still studios, and they act the exact same. Yes, there is a studio jumping in to make cuts. Of course they are. The man is saying there is a director’s cut.
Usually I’d agree with you, but Snyder said in interviews that there weren’t any demands from the studio for cuts. He just wants to make an R rated version and Netflix likes the publicity from having a Snyder cut. It worked for DC, so they use it as an advertisement to generate buzz around the movie.
Batman v Superman also had a “Director’s Cut” in the form of the Ultimate Edition, with additional scenes/context that weren’t suitable for the theatrical release due to length. Now that one wasn’t a radically difference movie, but it seems to be a recurring struggle Snyder has lately.
