Not of the first time, unfortunately. I was pretty young and my first experiences were not very memorable.
But when I was 13/14 I think, I went on a Boy Scout trip to the Lava Bed national park in Oregon. Our first night there, it snowed like 3 feet. Woke up to our tent buried somewhat. Sometimes later that day I was in a little clearing by myself trying to make a snowman and a deer and two foals wandered by and came up to sniff and lick me before taking off. I always call it my Disney Princess moment.
I’m gonna just jump into the deep end and blurt out that I can’t freaking stand the cadence of his voice. It’s so choppy. And the inflections are just so off. I know he’s not a native speaker and all that but… God. It’s almost unbearable to me. I can’t compensate for it.
I mean Dr. KZF is a PhD in computer graphics and machine learning, his channel has always been on those two subjects. There’s just been a lot more papers about AI the past year, he still does graphics stuff.
And is was interesting when he went trough a paper on light calculations when rendering object and new physics calculation on fluids. The bulk of his content now seems to be “LOOK AT THIS STABLE DIFFUSION!” With “CHATGPT! Look at the AI do stuff!”
I mean it’s objectively the direction that computer graphics is going, we’re seeing more and more ML based rendering papers. It’s a rapidly evolving field so I wouldn’t expect it to have less papers in the future.
I never thought of that but yeah. I started watching shortly before ChatGPT exploded. The videos are really uninteresting after a while. It’s basically all just reaction videos but worse.
Joshua Weissman. He started out super chill, most of his recipes were pretty approachable, the editing wasn’t over the top, the b-roll stuff at the end was tasteful.
Now it’s like he’s catering to a whole different crowd. The editing is over the top and jammed with memes, he’s more idk, psychotic isn’t quite the right word, but it’s way less chill, he’s constantly saying stuff like “if you don’t use XYZ ingredient then what are you even making this recipe for?”, his recipes are more over the top, and he has a much more elitist opinion of himself and his food. The change happened so quickly too, it was kind of shocking.
For actual cooking stuff, I prefer Adam Ragusea. He dives more into the history and molecular gastronomy side of things, to explain how a dish came to be and why it works. Not quite as sciencey as Alton Brown, but I definitely see the influences. And for actual historical food stuff, you may want to check out Tasting History. He’s a creator who does deep dives into historical dishes, then tries to recreate them.
Both interesting in their own ways, but Adam’s stuff has helped be become a better cook simply by understanding the why, rather than the how. Because if you know why something works, (rather than simply knowing how to do it) you’ll be able to translate that to other situations where it will work, and be able to avoid/work around situations where it won’t. It took me from “following recipes” to “making my own recipes” if that makes sense.
Already subbed to both of those channels lol. I also like J. Kenji Lopez Alt and Brian Lagerstrom for similar reasons - their videos are more about how to cook than just following a particular recipe.
I used to have a couple of his videos bookmarked. Making pizza or some kind of bread dough, can’t remember but I was using them all the time. Once finished it would autoplay another one of his videos and I agree they got worse and worse. Louder and faster and louder, they would usually make me rush to hit pause with doughy fingers.
Yeah he talks like he’s on coke now. Borderline unwatchable. I bet you can reduce the playback speed by 50% and it would de-stress the whole experience.
I use Allsides. They show a subject from left, right, and center sources on big headlines. They also say the alignment of individual articles. They link directly to the source. No ads.
Not my favorite, but I use this one for debugging #FF00FF.
It started back then in the early 2000s when I used to modify winamp skins, which used this particular color for transparency in their BMP sprites (no PNGs back than). Since then it stuck with me.
I also used to use that color for transparency. When I made something in MS Paint I set that color to where I wanted transparency so I could move it to other window with transparent selection. Nice workflow for simple pixel art but I would rather use GIMP these days.
Obviously, uBlock Origin. Others are multi-account containers, facebook container, privacy badger, bitwarden (if you use it as a password manager), and keepa (if you shop on amazon).
Clickspring makes some of the most beautiful, soothing, detail obsessed machining videos imaginable. Dude builds complex gear works from scratch, including a replica of the Antikythera mechanism which is still in progress after many years, though nearly finished now.
You can set up a personalized RSS feed with Feeder. It will take a bit of effort to set up, but you can create a feed that is very well tailored to your interests. You can get news feeds but also subscribe to other kinds of content, like scientific publications and financial statements.
