Steins;Gate

Extrasvhx9he,

Great choice

LordOfTheChia, (edited )

IMDb link: imdb.com/title/tt1910272/

It’s on Hulu, Funimation, and Crunchyroll

It has a really good dub

Edit: Might also be on Netflix in Japan and UK

fastandcurious,

Was searching for this, probably has one of the best anime dubs so anyone can enjoy it

Trail,

Especially the visual novel.

Back to the Future. All three of them, they’re so good!

noroute,

Oh yeah, this is a classic! Christopher Lloyd was epic there. This was the first movie I noticed this actor.

CodeGameEat, (edited )

I’ve watched them so much, that when I started to learn english I just started to watch that movie in english, since i knew by hart half of what they were saying

Kichae,

I was worried when this wasn’t anywhere near the top. These aren’t even my favourite time travel movies, they’re my favourite movies, period, and have been since I was 4.

alansuspect,

Me too!

Can’t believe noone mentioned Primer

noroute,

I heard about it but never watched it. Is it good? What is it about?

reversebananimals, (edited )

Its very good. Its a low budget indie film. Its about two unremarkable engineers who work on toy projects in their garage accidentally discovering a type of time travel similar to the movie Looper. The film follows the realization, experimentation and ultimately the downfall of the engineers due to the power of their own discovery.

Primer is famous for being extremely complex and hard to follow. The characters speak in real engineering jargon, and there’s constant time travel paradoxes happening in the background which you don’t pick up on without multiple viewings.

If you like being intellectually challenged, its great.

Should also be mentioned that the director is a massive POS, which is why I don’t promote the movie even though I like it.

noroute,

Thank you, director been POS never stopped me from watching or liking the movie/show. I don’t even care for most ratings or reviews. There were many times when rating or review was bad but i loved watching it.

magnetosphere,
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

Sometimes I wonder if horrible people can be great storytellers because their outlook on life is so different from our own. That doesn’t excuse or justify their behavior, but still, I wonder.

noroute,

From my personal experience watching some POS directors/writers content sometimes they can better than good once.

SpaghettiYeti,

What’s up with the director?

JohnObvious,

1st I’m hearing of this too.

triptrapper,

From Wikipedia:

From 2011 to 2018, Carruth was in a relationship with Amy Seimetz. The couple became engaged in 2013. Seimetz obtained temporary restraining orders against Carruth in 2018 and 2020 and a permanent restraining order in 2020, citing years of domestic and emotional abuse and harassment. Carruth has denied these allegations.

On January 13, 2022, Carruth was arrested at the home of another ex-girlfriend on allegations of domestic assault and vandalism. He was released four days later on a $50,000 bond.

w3dd1e,

Came here to say this. That movie is fantastic. And it was made for basically nothing. It’s so smart.

50MYT,

They begged borrowed and stole everything to make the movie, except spent $8000 to rent lights to film.

They then went on to make $20m at the box

u_die_for_elmer, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?

Pre-destination. It’s like the grandfather paradox… But different.

tenchiken,

Best choice.

jabathekek, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?
@jabathekek@sopuli.xyz avatar

Are Levi’s available in Europe? Honestly the best jeans I’ve ever had… I cycle with them almost daily and they’re still going strong.

neidu, (edited )

Yes. But I did happen to stumble across its Denizen line about a year ago when I was in the US and in a Target. I really liked them, so upon another visit this summer I bought three additional (identical) ones, as I’ve not seen them here in europe.

I am the least fashionable person in existence, and I 100% prefer function over form. And the Denizen is by far the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever owned.

kindenough,

Archeologists be digging up wearable Levi's 2000 years from now

Ejh3k,

Placed there by Producer Ben of the Blank Check Podcast

juja,

I am confused. I thought the OP was asking about pants, as in underpants and people are suggesting jeans. Is this just a misunderstanding or are there actually jeans underpants ?

CaptObvious,

Dialect difference. Brit pants = US underwear. US pants = Brit trousers.

juja,

I am aware of the dialect difference… was just wondering if there really is such a thing as underpants made of jeans material … that sounds comfy to wear at home.

CaptObvious,

Ah, sorry. I jumped to the wrong understanding of your question.

Now you mention it, that does sound kind of comfy, similar to soft flannel.

awwwyissss,

Babe, have you seen my junderwear I can’t find it anywhere

Coherence,

Made me spew tea out of my nose, bravo!

rekabis,

Definitely a fan of Levi’s, especially the high-waisted models. I intensely dislike the feeling of my pants being about to fall off, so low-waisted is out. The 516 is my favourite, although I also have 541s, 501s, 505s, and 550s.

jabathekek,
@jabathekek@sopuli.xyz avatar

The ones I have are 531’s. I wish I could afford another pair rn, oh well.

Dark

Tehgingey,

Dark was absolutely incredible, one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever seen. Start to finish such a good story.

dmention7,

I feel like I missed a ton of details on my first watchthrough, but still enjoyed it a ton.

I’m curious if anyone has given it a second go, and if it added or removed from the experience?

ettyblatant,
@ettyblatant@lemmy.world avatar

I have given it a 2nd-3rd-4th go, each time with a new friend who hasn’t yet seen it. And, no joke, I still pick up on a TON of details I’ve missed before. It’s just… so good

Decoy321,

Not only do I agree, but also recommend looking up supplementary info, like the companion website while rewatching to help connect dots.

Neil,
@Neil@lemmy.ml avatar

Is it ok to watch it dubbed or should I try to find a subbed version in your opinion?

ettyblatant,
@ettyblatant@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve only seen it with subs. I have read on an old thread that the dubs are pretty good, but I haven’t given them a shot. Maybe I will try on my 5th watch!

Hobbes,

Subbed for sure.

Bakachu,

This show absolutely - if for nothing else but the casting that made you actually believe past/present/future characters were the same person.

Candelestine, in Would reverting back to tribes or city-states not be sufficient to save us from ourselves?

I get a few takeaways from this, one of these being that progress, people foresee (or think they foresee), will turn out to be a merely forward thing, where we can only get better at inventing, which means better tech, which means the ability to improve how we destroy, and another being that nation states, themselves having been a can of worms on their own when tribes contemplated no longer being tribes, will be targeting other nation-states, but that tribes, being nomadic and not as technologically in-tune, would have less incentive to be struck down by a nuke, as would city-states to a lesser degree due to the second thing and/or the fact that everyone existing in the form of city-states might make people more careful.

This … is all one sentence. It’s … beautiful.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

See, if we as a world hadn’t put up with each other up to now, we would’ve never been able to witness this grammatical marvel.

Candelestine,

Damn straight.

CaptObvious,

/me weeps in linguistic nirvana

NeoNachtwaechter,

No, it’s sick :-)

LemmyKnowsBest, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?

Carhartt

Bdtrngl, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?

Docker’s, Carhartt and Dickies pants (not jeans) have all held up to my factory job.

Ejh3k,

Dickies really are underrated. I’ve worn them for years doing landscaping full time in the Midwest. I think I had a pair that lasted six years.

livus, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?
@livus@kbin.social avatar
noroute,

Oh i forgot about that one, it was very good indeed.

Vibi, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?

Look for raw denim! The real stuff- it’ll feel thicker at first and will take breaking in. You’ll be paying 100+ most likely, but they’ll last you a lifetime. Brands are really dependent on the style/cut of jeans you’re looking for. Not up to date on brands anymore since I haven’t had to buy a new pair in over ten years. My favorite brand was/is Rogue Territory, but I’m not sure if they are available in the EU.

PP_BOY_, (edited )
@PP_BOY_@lemmy.world avatar

For pure longevity I’d recommend Iron Hearts. I’ve had the same pair of 634S for about two years, worn 2-4x per week in construction

Kata1yst,
@Kata1yst@kbin.social avatar

Man I don't know if it's just me, I've owned 3 pairs of raw denim jeans and I blew out all 3 within a year.

Vibi,

It kind of comes down to the overall craftsmanship of the jeans. I started paying more attention to the seams, stitching, and where things lined up on my body. I had good luck purchasing from smaller brands which appeared to value the ‘legacy’ of denim- not something I really think about, but I was happy they did.

Sequentialsilence, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?

Is 5.11 available in Europe? It’s practically all I wear now. I’ve only had one pair go bad in 7 years.
