I make around 60k and I barely can afford to survive. And I have a decent rent (1000$), but car payments, insurance, phone, internet and food all got more expensive. I can’t even afford a vacation anymore ! I barely make it and I think of those single parents trying to get by with less and it breaks my heart. If I a single man with no kids have to skip meals once in a while I can only imagine what those poor kids have to go through.
Aside from it being a sales tactic, it’s also just a strategy to memorize people’s names. I use it often because I’m trying to be friendly, and I have slight face blindness.
I teach new hires to my team on sales tactics. My background is in psychiatry/psychology.
It all boils down to being legit. Be you. Don’t be fake. Don’t lie.
Based on sales I typically outsell my peers 4:1. When I say a customer is a friend, that means we are friends.
After COVID people are looking for more authentic relationships. The dynamics have changed. They don’t want the fake sales person who just takes them to dinner. They want someone that has a real relationship with people, they enjoy spending time with and they trust.
The social isolation has caused people to seek true connections when they spend time with people.
I think you’re just listening to that group a lot? If you go to a sales event or an expo people will say your name and make eye contact. It’s really normal behavior that in a normal situation you don’t need to over analyze but it is being amplified in those situations
Yeah, I mean among friends and coworkers people will definitely call each other by name, and that does still feel weird but not nearly as much. The frequency they use names is just way less and the tone/attitude is different
Sounds like you’d think this was weird in any situation so why are you even asking the question? If you’re going to show respect to someone, you use their name. It’s also a sales tactic to show that you’re paying attention to them and took note of their name when they said it. It makes people more comfortable when you’re personable with them. At least the majority of people. I know everyone’s scared these days to even answer an unknown phone number.
The level of weird it feels to me is pretty different.
When friends do it, and it’s so infrequent, it’s like a very small feeling, and the majority of the weirdness feeling actually comes from me thinking about how I almost never call people by their name, and I’m probably the weird one, and maybe I should make an effort to do it more.
When I see it being done a lot in one conversation it’s a big feeling, and as other people have pointed out, I think a big chunk of the weirdness vibe I get is from the technique being used in a condescending way. And then each time it happens in the same conversation the weird feeling feeds into and amplifies itself, which is what ended up pushing me to ask
You can also update the processor when they release new parts.
And you don’t have to run Windows, put a nice flavour of Linux on it for that fast feeling. Or rip everything out of Windows with something like the AME wizard.
If you want to be the “cool guy” then macbook is your choice, it will cost more and repair is risky to be done by anyone except apple himself.
If you want to have a laptop, that is easy to repair, upgrade and is cheap but powerfull then Framework laptop.
On macbook you are locked into apple, you cant upgrade, you can only get support by apple and most of the time third party stuff doesnt work right on macbook. On Framework laptop you are more open to do anything, like upgrading, switching OS if windows isnt right for you. Framework is a lot more open and listens to the community.
Russia is sending migrants to Finland and after we closed the eastern border they started walking thru the forest and showing up on the yards of people living close to the border. These people are literally hiking thru deep snow in the freezing winter wearing sneakers.
Yeah mostly from middle east I believe. Finland started putting up hundreds of kilometers of border fence about a year ago as this was expected to happen. They’re trying to destabilize our political system this way. Despite what many articles say this is not about trying to stop an invasion. It’s about migrants that Russia is using as political leverage.
I was doing that a lot over the holidays, and decided to do a dry January. It is doing wonders for my gaming nights. You could try it next month (shortest one of the year, so a little less commitment).
The US is the next empire to fall. I am a US citizen and i am taking steps to GTFO if needed. I have an e-residency and ID card from another nation and am working up to the investment for full citizenship.
I mean, the issue is that most of the rest of the so called free World (and in my opinion correctly so), especially Europe, depends on the US for defence, specially weapon production. Despite France constantly whining about it, insisting on strategic autonomy, as far as I am aware, when it comes to ammo production and air power, we very much depend on the US for production and designs (the design when it comes to aircraft)
The United States military should scale way back, but the European military would have to increase because of what you mentioned with designs for specialty weapons.
We have reasonable designs for almost all weapon categories, except maybe for airplanes, with the latest being the Eurofighter which is by now a bit dated. Regarding Tanks, the German Leopard is as far as I am aware a fine piece of engineering as well as the belgian FN-SCAR. However we lack the ammo capabilities (especially when it comes to artillery shells) to ever have hope of winning a protracted war (or simply keeping Ukraine alive). (also, quick side note, France also spends a great deal of money maintaining their own nuclear arsenal and weapons delivery system, which kinda makes the UK seem a bit puny with their dependence of the US for weapon delivery)
If the American empire falls, it’s not going to reduce weapons production or arms sales. Decline into fascism requires more guns and bullets, as they get turned against domestic targets, while guns and oil are among the US’s best sources of external currency.
This reminds me of Auroville, a village in India that’s supposed to be an Utopia of socialism and new humanist living. But when you look beyond the marketing and the veneer of spirituality, it’s just a bunch of people living in poverty and giving their money to a group of leeches.
