Oh yes, i saw the uh, that one uh, …erotic… film they shot on the fishing boat! That certainly was an …interesting choice of bait. And a highly unusual catch as well 😳
When I was in 8th grade we had an assignment during black history month where we were assigned an important person in black history and had to make a slideshow about them. I got Malcolm X and was really excited because I had very surface level knowledge that he was cool for some reason and I like his name. A very sweet black Muslim girl asked to swap historical figures with me for obvious reasons and I said no because I thought that the historical figures she was assigned was boring for some reason or another. Anyway I think about this weekly, I’m sorry Miriam.
To give added context I’m a white secular boy who knew nothing real about the civil rights movement and my slideshow was a disservice. To make matters worse, I lived in Texas.
I swear I woke up in a cold sweat one night years ago, remembered this, and haven’t been able to forget it. She seemed really excited to do a project about him too T-T
I do, and it’s not for entirely altruistic reasons either.
When I’d open a thread on reddit, if I wasn’t there within the first hour of being up or first dozen or so comments, it was almost guaranteed that whatever I said would get buried and the effort I spent formulating my comment would basically be wasted. So there was very little incentive to engage with meaningful discussion just for the sake of discussion. On Lemmy, most posts struggle to get over a hundred comments at most, and even more struggle to get past ten. So, if I spend time developing my reply, I have a higher chance of that comment getting seen and other people in the community engaging with me, which is the entire point of leaving comments, IMO.
Agreed. Comments here are more meaningful for being rare. Even comments disagreeing with OP or replying from a different point of view are often well thought out and meaningful.
On Lemmy, the algorithm is also more prone to show newer with less votes comments, when sorting by hot. So it gives more value to those low votes comments.
I’d make personal asset-backed debt above a certain amount per capita taxable. The real reason they pay so little tax is that they never actually realize their assets - they just borrow against them, and all that debt is then slowly deleted through inflation.
So, when they use asset-backed debt instead of income - tax it.
Leaving Islam, I know this comment will spark some debate, which is pointless ( to me at least )… So fingers crossed nothing will happen
Muslims often say: “oh, so you’re an atheist!, tell us where do you get your morals?” And “Oh, you left Islam so you can live a life of sin, drinking alcohol and having sex with tons of people”…
The irony is that the reason you leave Islam ( or any other “organized” cult ) is because of your intact moral compass, you’re against violence ( murder and war ), homophobia, sexism, pedophilia, racism, slavery, genital mutilation, you’re against fear, control, indoctrination… And the list goes on… And even if it was true, I left Islam to live a life of sin, the prize of winning in Islam, is to live an internal life of sin in heaven so… 👉👈
I live in a Muslim country, and It’s safe to say ( not out loud, if you know what I mean ) that the only reason people here are muslims is because they’re indoctrinated, from birth… you hear the same arguments, the same logical fallacies, the same pathetic biases … from every person, that’s why I said it’s pointless…
It’s sad, to live undercover with “friends” and “family” who will let you go if they knew the real you, and it’s really a lonely life, and it gets even lonelier because I’m fucking gay, I used to think, not so much, but I thought of going back and trying to fit in, try to be like everyone else, maybe If I can live in a broken system, I’ll stop seeing how broken it is… But I can’t, and I won’t, it’s just doesn’t work like that, once you’re awakened, you can’t go back to sleep.
So, I’m proud because I feel like I’m a better human being, because when I look around and see Muslims praying on the downfall of Jews and Christians, ( and I don’t know about Christians and Jews so don’t ask me, I would say probably the same lol… 😂, they all hate each other…) When I see that, I see how religion divides us ( “in order to rule us” … Like Mr Robot said ) and how much hate people carry because of such beliefs
They’re just trying to “get out the vote” by forcing Biden to do something that they can point to and say “See! You were right all along! The federal government is going to invade and put you all in FEMA camps and make your children go to public school where they will be turned gay!!!”
I realize that that sounds absolutely stupid and it is. If I hadn’t already watched exactly that happen with Jade Helm I would never have believed that people could be that incredibly stupid, but it did and they are. Sigh.
I really hope Biden doesn’t take the bait and just deals with it after the election.
Same shit, different election:
“ On April 28, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor the operation, writing: “During the training operation, it is important that Texans know [that] their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed”, and requesting “regular updates on the progress and safety of the Operation”.”
Wow wiki even has a whole section on conspiracy theories. I feel stupider even reading that. Only makes sense under projection; the far right wants to do exactly what they project onto others.
I would just undo all the mergers and acquisitions. In 90% of cases, this just results in the games being worse, and the magic that made the studios great is extinguished.
Found at 7-11, combo ketchup/mustard blister pack that when you simply bend and squeeze together, ketchup and mustard come out evenly for your corn-dog and no mess for your fingers.
You have tomato sauce packets? It’s funny to think of ketchup as tomato sauce, in the US if you called it that everyone would be confused even though it is really the most accurate thing you could call it
We would call the sauce for burgers, fries etc ketchup, ‘tomato sauce’ in the US would be the sort for pasta, like marinara. If you asked for tomato sauce for a burger people would be very confused lol.
Is it though? There are other things people refer to as tomato sauce and that could be confusing. As an Italian living in Australia i cringe every time someone refers to ketchup as tomato sauce. Tomato sauce should be a beautiful thing that goes in pasta, lasagne and all gorgeous food stuff. Ideally home made.
The vinegary shit that drunk people here put on their meat pie (that BTW would taste beautifully as they comes out of the oven, no need to put any nasty shit on it) - it’s called ketchup and you just ruined that beautiful pie.
