Petter1, Why do some specific Nvidia grafic cards require that you use legacy BIOS to start up your linux, while it works flawlessly on macOS using EFI??
0x4E4F, Because Apple has money and revenue, and Linux doesn’t.
Petter1, 😮 I did not expect such accurate answers, lol
victorz, Which cards?
stoicmaverick, It’s easiest if I just link you to the Wikipedia article on money. Here
Thcdenton, What does chmod do?
stoicmaverick, My pet theory is that it is a weapon designed for me personally to shorten my lifespan by means of elevated blood pressure while I try and set up and maintain an instance of paperless-ngx via docker compose and a Wi-Fi document scanner.
Thcdenton, Jesus Christ I just threw up in my mouth a little.
0x4E4F, It changes the mood. One o is missing from it because the main dev was Russian and really bad at spelling in English.
Thcdenton,
JackGreenEarth, How do I set up a VNC server from my Manjaro machine? If anyone wants to give a real answer I’d appreciate that too!
0x4E4F, The real asnwer is, you don’t. Manjaro is an Italian based distro, and we all know how much Italians work in real life, so this distro doesn’t really work either. Your best choice is to ditch Manjaro and use TempleOS for your VNC server.
unionagainstdhmo, If you’re on GNOME I believe there’s a remote desktop option in settings under sharing which might set it up for you
JackGreenEarth, I can only see ssh sharing there, no remote desktop option. And I am using GNOME.
unionagainstdhmo, It looks like Manjaro doesn’t install the necessary components by default. Found a thread on the Manjaro forum that’s a few years old but apparently all you need to do is install a package:
sudo pacman -S gnome-remote-desktop
Otherwise there are plenty of other options out there like Remmina
ryannathans, Nice instance
unionagainstdhmo, Right back at ya
leaky_shower_thought, how is the x org x server related to x formerly known as twitter?
callyral, wayland.social
laurelraven, They’re distant cousins, but they avoid each other at family reunions
0x4E4F, It’s his second cousin from his aunt’s sister in law side.
21Cabbage, Why did I have to burn multiple install CDs before finally getting one to work back in 2013?
Gimpydude, For the same reason I had to buy a stack of floppies to install it in the 90’s
stoicmaverick, I think you have a little bit of solder flux stuck in your gray beard on the left side… No, other left.
21Cabbage, Weren’t floppy’s relatively rewritable? Why did you have to buy multiple instead of simply trying multiple times?
Gimpydude, Floppies were very rewritable, but the distro wouldn’t fit on a single one.
21Cabbage, See but I’m talking about burning an install CD for Puppy and having it just straight not work and the solution being “just burn another one” like CDs were cheap for a 13 year old.
0x4E4F, Good thing floppes were dirt cheap back then.
0x4E4F, Because not all distros work with their respective boot floppies. I gather you finally realized that in 2013.
9point6, Is red hat a good or a bad influence on the ecosystem?
0x4E4F, (edited ) Well, red is darker than white, so if everyone wears red hats, then global warming will most definitely rise.
Prunebutt, Can you explain network sockets to me?
0x4E4F, They’re just regular sockets that do most of the work… the net thing is just added to complicate things.
Archer, As a network engineer I can confirm
uis, Now what about network socks?
0x4E4F, You wear them when networking.
TootSweet, Should I dual boot?
laurelraven, I don’t recommend it, the more boots you use the heavier your computer will be. I’ve got mine down to half a boot and I’m working on getting it down to a quarter.
lseif, some clearly hasnt heard of a bootless system
0x4E4F, lol 🤣🤣🤣, this one is better than my answer 🤣.
0x4E4F, Of course… what sane person doesn’t wear both boots 🤨.
makunamatata, The ones that wear one boot inside another. Only a single boot on each foot suffices.
thecrotch, People missing a leg
0x4E4F, Yes, that will be the only exception I presume.
DarkDarkHouse, People missing two legs
Siegfried, That people does not boot, so they don’t count
muhyb, YARRRR
taanegl, When it comes to quirks mode, what are the do’s and don’ts?
FrostyCaveman, (edited ) DONT waste your time with quirks mode
DO find a new job
Speaking from personal experience
0x4E4F, Don’t install it if you want to keep your sanity. The opposite if you don’t.
thisfro, What is the best init system?
stoicmaverick, It’s the title of my personal book of pick up lines.
0x4E4F, The system that lets you in it.
thisfro, Absolutely true!
kurumin, Ngl this is a good one for real
uis, Truly. My favorite is OpenRC though.
moonburster, What do I do if I accidentally remove grub
Prunebutt, You go hungry
stoicmaverick, You become a happier person.
makunamatata, Which one is it?
“Ask me anything about it and I’ll try to answer”
OR
“Ask me anything about IT and I’ll try to answer”
0x4E4F, Take your pick, I’m feeling generous today.
Sheeple, The clown
makunamatata, (edited ) Touché! I was thinking Information Technology, but you win with Pennywise twist.

Tenthrow, Actually it’s GNU/Linux. Just kidding. I am not that guy.
pineapplelover, Aktually it’s GNU+Linux
Sheeple, Actually you are not that gnu
possiblylinux127,
poinck, What is flatpak?
possiblylinux127, A packaging format for linux
0x4E4F, You sure you don’t know anything about Linux 🤨?
0x4E4F, A really flat pancake.
Sheeple, A flapjack is a comic character
stoicmaverick, It’s a type of Kool-Aid that everybody’s been drinking recently
0x4E4F, (edited ) My appoligies, this answer is more correct than mine.
