And when I’m in a mixed group of strangers and that 1 person I’m comfortable with, it’s a mixed bag as to which me shows up.

I’m from Asia and honestly it’s really tiring to hear people keep making fun of Americans.

It was never funny to bring up shit like children fucking dying from school shootings in a snarky comment, and I think any reasonable person with actual, genuine concern for the world’s problems understands that if all we had to do was give, everyone would well have fucking received already.

jasondj, (edited )

As an American, we can laugh at tragedy sometimes.

For example, that my 7yos phone was probably made by people younger than him. And one of those kids probably killed themselves jumping off a factory building so my kid could be safe from a school shooting.

See? Absolutely hysterical.

I have recently acquired some new comfy friends . . . it is indeed quite whelming.

mofongo, in Love it

Is this normal behavior? I have that too but I just assumed I am shy or weird.

Persen,

Or probably autistic.

mofongo,

No I already tested myself.

Persen,

Oh ok.

CliveRosfield,

Ignore the other guy it’s completely normal

CaptPretentious,

I’d say yes. The people you’re close with are the people that you’ve vetted. You have same or similar energy, opinions, humor, etc.

At my age I’m just sick of other people shit. People who are rude, obnoxious, entitled, self-centered, etc… so I more and more resemble the left side.

native ppl: these dudes are sickly, scurvied, and so pale they look like they’re about to die, we have to give them food

europeans: they bring us offerings! they must think we’re gods, probably

    Madison420, (edited )

The white people as gods myth likely comes from Australia where pale people were thought of as ghosts and treated well and given things they’d need on their trip to the aboriginal afterlife of sorts.

The west at the beginning: Gaza is not a concentration camp, they have (a little) food and water and a “safe zone” in the south!

The west now: You have to kill at least 6 million for it to classify as genocide

    AngryCommieKender, (edited )

800,000 to 1,000,000. That’s how many Tutsis were killed by the Hutus in the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

/s in case that isn’t blatantly obvious

I mean, I’d be confused and concerned too if a time travelling European from the 18th century stepped off a boat in 1492

People genuinely do not understand history.

I think a good comedic example of this is in Futurama, where some characters from the year 3000 get tossed back to Roswell in 1947. They try to blend with “period correct clothes” and lingo, but since they’re 1000 years out of place, they’re combining things that hadn’t been invented yet with stuff from 1947s past.

A lot of people seem to think cleopatra was hanging out with the dudes who built the pyramids and think it’s weird Sparta and Rome never went to war. I mean, sure technically they both existed in an overlapping period of about 50 years, but technically the USA has had diplomatic contact with the Holy Roman Empire for a few years.

Imagine if a shuttle landed on the planet and someone from 2402 popped out with their neon implants, xarthan death spikes proudly displayed, and an onion on their belt. Everyone knows they don’t show up until at least 2215.

    VikingHippie,

and an onion on their belt.

Which will be the style at the time, of course.

    funkless_eck,

I don’t know if there’s any period in history where having an onion on your belt would be a bad idea.

    VikingHippie,

Then again, there isn’t one where it’s a particularly good one, either 🤷

    lightnegative,

    Onions have layers

    Siegfried,

You are right and i know this isnt what you were thinking about, but Rome and sparta did go to war

    I like the futurama reference

    @Transporter_Room_3@startrek.website avatar

    Shhhhhhhhh…

Also, I thought Sparta had been absorbed by the Achaean League by then.

I guess I helped further prove my point that people don’t know history.

    drascus, in Honestly

we sorta haven’t. We haven’t even made it a few hundred years without a civil war or some sort of uprising.
