I’m nitpicking probably, but shouldn’t it be: ‘bad guy’ not ‘bad guy

hangonasecond,

The overemphasis on bad guy is just exaggerating the way we already place emphasis on the two different meanings of the phrase.

At least in my accent, I place slight emphasis on bad if I’m talking about an “enemy”, whereas the emphasis falls on guy if I’m making a character judgement of a person.

I don’t know if I’m making any sense at all, but I think that’s what they’re going for.

Gender fluid zangief

TheRobotFrog,

Piggy-backing to nitpick something else. Was he burgling or robbing? Those are different things, Robert. You can’t use them interchangeably.

Furbag,

Piggybacking on this piggybacked nitpick with yet another nitpick… Why is Zangief considered a villain in Wreck-It Ralph? Except for maybe one instance in the Street Fighter series, he is always on the side fighting against the evildoers. At least that’s the case for every Street Fighter game with a story more complex than “The World Warrior”. And in that one exception where he did fight for the bad guys, he was being tricked into doing so if I recall.

Is it… Is it because his country of origin is the USSR? 🤔

Notyou,

I have a vague memory of him fighting with Bison against the good guys in the Street Fighter movie. I might be wrong at how it ended though. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Burgling is entering a place with intent to commit a crime

Robbing is theft by force or threat of force

So burgling for sure

collapse_already,

Common law and some jurisdictions require burglary to occur at night which I thought was interesting. In many cases, the intended crime must be a felony to be within the definition of burglary.

An example modern burglary statute (Texas) can be found here:

casetext.com/statute/…/section-3002-burglary#:~:t….

For Texas, the perp must intend a felony, theft, or assault (a lesser included offensive of battery, so no saying I intended battery not assault).

Not sorry at all. These genetics are just a dead end. I’m making the human race better. Addition by subtraction.

lars,

I know!

Considering my ridiculously high-magnification contact lenses, my ancestors have no idea what I’m up to. They couldn’t even see across the room.

Exactly so. I don’t want to saddle up a kid with my problems.

Ok so just self eugenics 🙄

Ataraxia,

Absolutely nothing wrong with eugenics when applied properly. Like nuclear power, AI, the internet, eugenics would fix a lot that’s wrong with humanity. If I could generically engineer myself into someone with no anxiety disorder or adhd or no postural tachycardia or naturally muscular body maybe even different color eyes and a different voice, I would. My genes aren’t unique and my traits don’t need to be passed on. I’m not a chinchilla.

gun,
@gun@lemmy.ml avatar

What you are describing is gene therapy, not eugenics. When eugenics was a thing, it was mostly voluntary in liberal countries. Propaganda was used to convince “inferior” people to sterilize themselves, including black people. How is that different than reinforcing the idea that “dysgenic” people are doing the right thing by not having kids?

My genes aren’t unique and my traits don’t need to be passed on

I never said they did. Some people will never have kids and that’s fine. That’s not the issue at hand with eugenics. Eugenics is treating people like chinchillas actually, animals that must be bred and selected for the best traits.

If I could generically engineer myself into someone with no anxiety disorder…

That’s the thing, you can’t. Not synthetically at least. The current gene framework is a house of cards and it will be replaced by a better system of understanding. Look into Denis Noble’s work. Also look into epigenetics. The genes you pass on to your children are not the genes you inherit from your parents, they change, and they are changed by your body in response to your environment for the better. No organism is doomed to the fate of inferior genes, they are naturally mutable. But perhaps your environment and lifestyle is not serving you well, and that may be your real problem.

Yep, my partner and I have way too many medical issues so we don’t feel bad at all for not bringing kids into this already fucked up world.

Generally in cases like this they get little to no charges related to bulglery.

MufinMcFlufin,

Found an article about the case, as of the time of the article being written neither of the two burglars had been charged with anything. Haven’t looked much more into it, though.

Same in Canada because everyone in power would rather spend all their time energy and expertise dismantling the health care system and privatize it than in actually making it work the way it should.

The only incentive to privatization is that a small group of people can make a lot of money.

Keeping things public doesn’t make many people wealthy and it only provides equal benefits to everyone, which everyone takes for granted and never appreciate until those benefits are gone.

Fleamo, in Standards

Maybe I’m being a spoil sport but this seems like a cover to me. Like maybe it was “a burgler” but that person was someone’s older brother who knew what they were going to find.

I just don’t see the circumstances for a random burglar to be snooping through folders close enough to find the presumably relatively hidden items they’d need to find, let alone that happening alongside the low odds an actual burglar would risk their own security to do the right thing.

Crack0n7uesday, (edited )

It was 2013, people didn’t put a password to open past the lock screen on their personal device back then. The Internet got flooded with revenge amateur porn back then, and it’s one of the reasons why.

ApathyTree,
@ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Or prior victim.

I actually find prior victim highly likely. Life’s already probably fucked up, what’s a B&E charge in exchange for justice? Plus doesn’t have to air any accusations and have their life also ruined.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

While I see your point and truth is we’ll just never know, I am afraid you might be a bit naive.

I just don’t see the circumstances for a random burglar to be snooping through folders close enough to find the presumably relatively hidden items they’d need to find, let alone that happening alongside the low odds an actual burglar would risk their own security to do the right thing.

This is exactly what burgling is. Having been the unfortunate victim once not even the spines of my books were safe. Burglars watch the same movies, so they will cut into your cushions, paintings, go through folders, behind outlets.

Then I got way too into a show about two ex burglars who would look for volunteer houses to break into, and yeah. No stone is left unturned and with far more diligence they would ever put in a real job.

Fleamo,

I mean folders internal to the computer. Sure they would look for valuables anywhere but where I’m having trouble is the leap from stealing the computer to looking through the contents of the computer.

Either they would have to stay in the house and go through things, or set it up somewhere else and risk an anti-theft GPS triggering, and what is the motive? What could they find on some randos file folders? Cleanest thing to do is just immediately wipe the computer and sell it.

sukhmel,

I didn’t search for the original article, but from some articles I saw, CP often resides on a physical medium, especially considering the article is about ten years ago

At this point I think I’ll just adopt. Plenty of kids to go around, no need to make more.

UnderpantsWeevil,
@UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world avatar

Its a grueling slog in a good state and a fucking nightmare in a bad one. My experience with the Texas adoption system has me convinced that the entire agency is run by a collection of sadists. Feels like it exists just to traumatize people further.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Worth it to try and get at least one kid out of that nightmare system. If it’s that bad to adopt, imagine how bad it is to be completely at its mercy.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The bigger problem is that it can be prohibitively expensive, which is why the ‘people will just adopt unwanted children’ line that anti-abortion advocates take is bullshit. They make as many barriers to adoption as possible, the biggest one being cost.

And worse, they can deny you outright. For things like having the wrong religion. State-funded adoption agencies.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

All legitimate concerns. It’s definitely not the best option, or even feasible, for everyone. But it deserves more consideration than it tends to receive whenever the subject of having kids comes up.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I think along with that consideration is a necessary discussion about easing the difficulty of going through the process.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, definitely. The system is horrendously broken.
