The reward is the giant nut you get on Dec 1st.

BarrelAgedBoredom,

You only need like a week of not cumming to get a huge load and potential increased sensitivity back. Unless you’re a chronic masturbator with death grip, in which case a month would probably be better lol

bastian_5, in Baking seems like so much more fun

Meanwhile swap them to get normal baking and cooking without a predefined recipe. Anyone can cook and have it turn out well. If you do not have at least a masters in chemistry and you try to bake, it will fucking explode, burn, still be frozen in the center (even if it wasn’t before), be too salty, need a little bit more salt, implode, and make the entire house smell like it’s on fire until the heat death of the universe 5 seconds after you put it in the oven.

If you have a recipe they’re fairly similar, but baking is more precise while cooking usually requires more direct attention.

Wogi,

Cooking without a recipe is like driving without directions. The farther you reach the harder it is, but anyone can get where they’re going, and if not they can get pretty close.

Baking without a recipe is like trying to get to the moon.

Ookami38,

Nah, the moon is a straight shot, you can brute force your way there eventually. Baking is more akin to trying to get to your Uncle Tito’s, who lives in the wilderness. You have to follow a very specific set of esoteric instructions, and if you turn 43 degrees left, instead of 45, you’ll end up at the Tito’s vodka distillery instead of Uncle Tito’s. Which could be a fun experience, but it’s not what you were going for.

Shialac,

Iblove cooking. I fucking hate baking. I just don’t get it. How can a cake be burnt on the outside and liquid on the inside when I follow every step of the recipe super accurately

poppy,

Same way a steak can be charcoal outside and raw inside: too hot. You need to preheat your oven to the predetermined temp, which is set to a degree that allows the heat to penetrate all the way to the center slowly.

lostferret,

The key is that you’re usually not following the recipe as accurately as you think.

Also, burnt out & liquid in means too hot. Calibrate your oven so you’re actually baking at the temps the recipe calls for!

Catoblepas,

Buy a $10 oven thermometer and check your oven rack positions, sounds like it’s running way hotter than intended. If you have a convection oven the cook time may need to be adjusted.

Taleya,

That’s why bakers are so chill. You learn the hard way that nothing matters and you have so very little control over the universe. Consequently you deal or go mad.

Sanyanov, (edited )

Nah, the reason we’re chill is because the sole reason for you burning/not baking enough/having random issues is that you don’t control a lot of variables.

Do you even check moisture content of your flour? Do you know its gluten content, amount of ash and mineral impurities, titratable acidity? Do you have farinograms, alveograms, falling number for doughs made with it? Do you check room, water, flour, dough temperature? Do you put your dough to leaven at precise temperature and humidity? Do you put just enough steam into the baking chamber, and do you correct the temperature before loading the oven? Do you know the way heat moves through the oven, and do you know which corrections need to be made for your exact one?

We do. And we always make it right. So, what’s to worry about? It’s very simple and routine at that point. You do A, you get bread. Simple as that!

Dabundis,

While i agree that baking recipes are more complex on the whole, you can definitely find baked recipes that are a lot less sensitive to mistakes than others. No-knead breads and galettes come to mind. Certainly not idiot proof, but not quite as unapproachable as it seems.

To be clear, i get that the comment is hyperbolic but i’m replying in the hopes that someone gives baking a try who maybe otherwise wouldn’t

ryathal,

People over complicate baking. It’s mostly just managing the ratio of wet and dry ingredients. The more you bake the more you recognize what looks right. Many older recipes are written, to just add flour until it’s right.

Honestly the biggest problem people have with baking is probably not having a properly heated oven, and cooking too long or short.

Unfortunately doctors have no magic fixes for back pain related to muscular strains or degenerative disease/arthritis, which is most back pain. Treatments are basically physical therapy and nsaid medications. Surgery for low back pain from degenerative disease/arthritis alone has poor evidence with most randomized trials suggesting no difference. Even opiates fail to show any superiority over nsaids (like ibuprofen or naproxen) for back pain. Not saying don’t see your doctor about bad persistent back pain, there’s always edge cases or bizarre causes that may need addressing. But unfortunately no magic bullet for the vast majority of typical low back pain.

Randomized trial of opioid and nsiads in back pain, hip pain, and knee pain from degenerative disease/arthritis pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29509867/

Also, I know it’s a meme, but the billing code doctors use for even the most complicated of visits going over an hour and involving multiple potentially life threatening conditions or treatments isn’t anywhere close to $3000. Let alone a visit for routine back pain which wouldn’t qualify for anything like the highest billing codes.

monsieur_jean,

Agreed. I'm currently trying to fix my shoulders. Turns out the fix to "some of your muscles are too powerful and some aren't enough" is not an easy one and consists mostly in slowly and painfully correcting your posture with targeted exercises. Daily. For months.

I'm almost to the point where I say fuck it, I'll just train through pain and hopefully it will fix itself at some point. It worked for my tennis elbow after all... XD

the_post_of_tom_joad,

Also, I know it’s a meme, but

Im gently chiding you, i promise, but if you know, then why?

Ranvier, (edited )

People say the content of the meme in all seriousness all the time too is mainly why, thinking the doctor is responsible for that cost. I didn’t want it to become an attack on OP though, not my intent. And maybe my comments will encourage more wholesome memes about evil health care administrators and insurance company execs instead, the true enemy, haha.

the_post_of_tom_joad,

Thanks for explaining, i was truly just curious. See ya!

jackoneill,

If the doctor needs an mri and your insurance won’t cover the mri $3k isn’t far off. I’ve been in that position before. Had to give the radiology folks $500 down payment and then let them send the rest to collections to get an mri so my doctor could ultimately not to jack shit to help me, but her still charged me too. Fuck America.

Ranvier, (edited )

That’s true! But the mri costs are billed by the facility and hospital and generally have nothing to do with the doctor. Doubly the insurance and hospitals play games with each other, so the billed amounts end up being way more if not paying with insurance. I get bugged by memes and statements suggesting that doctors are the driver of the cost when it’s actually insurance companies, health care facilities, hospitals, medical equipment companies, and pharmaceuticals that are primarily driving all of this. Your doctor probably wanted to be sure there was nothing dangerous or abnormal. If it only showed arthritis there’s usually not much more that can be done besides pt and nsaids. Even the radiologist fee is a small part of the actual mri charge. Doctors just want to get people the tests and treatments that are indicated, but are the person people actually interact with so tend to take all the blame. I agree with you our health system is a mess.

The issue isn’t that they may not accept insurance, it’s that insurance may not cover them.

What if (hear me out) the high school kids can go to bed earlier if they’re sleep deprived? Waking up at a certain time is really only half the equation. The school isn’t making you stay up and get up early.

Boddhisatva,

Going to bed earlier isn’t an effective solution for many kids. Around 1 in 6 adolescents find it difficult to fall asleep before 11:00 PM.

In adolescence, up to 16% of teenagers experience a sleep phase delay. Due to this circadian shift , their melatonin levels don’t begin to rise until later in the evening. As a result, they naturally feel more alert at night, making it harder for them to fall asleep before 11:00 p.m.

YeetPics, (edited )
@YeetPics@mander.xyz avatar

Well considering that public schools (at least in the US) are glorified daycares in place so both parents can go work, the obvious solution is to globally push back the concept of “morning” to mean ‘a few hours after the sun rises’.

Kusimulkku,

I guess also feeling like they have self control or just toughing it out.

cashews_best_nut, in Congrats I guess

It used to be called Movember and was meant to highlight mens sexual health. Testicular and prostate cancer.

Not ejaculating can increase the risk of prostate cancer and reduces the chance of you spotting testicular cancer lumps.

So people have switched from a healthy activity and awareness campaign to a stupid, unhealthy and pointless campaign.

Well done.

coyootje,

I quite liked the idea of Movember when I was younger, it seemed like a neat idea to grow a mustache over the month with some of your homies.

Nowadays I have a beard thanks to the lockdowns and the reduced shame of it looking weird at the start so no need for Movember anymore.

Pregnenolone,

They’re different things. Movember still exists. NNN started as a meme evolving from the nofap movement only because of alliteration.

cashews_best_nut,
