History has proven out that no one cares what your political ideology is if you’re the candidate of change in a time of poverty, and thanks to Biden’s inaction, the massive increase in cost of living nationwide is going to sink his reelection prospects.
The Republicans are not going to have to lie about how little he’s done to help the poor and middle class.
Except there were 80 million people who said no to that last time. Trump is not the candidate of change regardless of what one thinks of Biden, to even pretend that is absurd. I honestly don’t think anyone would now somehow be more sympathetic towards him. He hasn’t changed, and neither has the American public
You could be right, but I wouldn’t want to have to sell Biden’s record to people who are paying more than double for groceries since he got elected. Wages, where they’ve increased, haven’t kept up with cost of living, and that’s going to be a big deal in the election.
Trump is not the candidate of change. Everyone knows him and knows what he stands for. And he’s been rejected many times.
The Republicans are not going to have to lie about how little he’s done to help the poor and middle class.
It’s just a feeling you have. The average American is actually better off than ever. If you’re not better off than ever, you’re probably just not the average American.
It’s just a feeling you have. The average American is actually better off than ever.
The average American, no matter where they live, is dealing with a 30% to 50% cost of living increase over the last couple of years, when Biden’s been in office.
That’s going to be hard to sell in a reelection campaign.
I got bad news for you: no one cares what an economist says about how they should feel, they only care about how they DO feel, and most Americans feel worse off.
That’s not Biden’s fault, obviously, it’s Capitalism’s, but try explaining that to your average American.
It’s only one quarter of the seats, but because there’s multiple parties that’s enough for a plurality. Still, pathetic that there’s even that level of support and it is higher than previously.
Hopefully the other parties have the sense to not support them in government. And indeed, that’s what the article suggests:
But the heads of the three other biggest Dutch parties have all said they would not serve in a PVV-led cabinet.
It is covering it, for workers on average. Your employer is stiffing you compared to the rest of the economy then if you didn’t also get 20% of a raise compared to your salary in 2019.
Real wages in October 2019 (normalized to 1982-1984 dollars) were $10.95/hr on average in October 2019. In October 2023 (again normalized to 1982-1984 dollars) they were $11.05/hr (which is $34/hr in current dollars). So as we stand in October the inflation from 2019 to now has been fully compensated for in wages with a little bit of an increase in real dollars. Wages have been growing faster than inflation since January 2023. Hopefully that will continue as labor remains in high demand and unions continue to make gains. Union gains even help non unionized individuals in their industries whose employers also will have to give pay raises to remain competitive with union jobs.
Not saying even more couldn’t be done to combat things like income inequality and poverty and many other issues, things weren’t exactly perfect in 2019 either. Just frustrated by the current media narratives casting hyperbolic doom and gloom in the economy and the potential of that narrative to send trump back into the white house.
Gaza is in far worse of a state, yeah, but make no mistake that Palestine is under Israeli control as well. Every aspect of Palestinian life is subject to Israeli rule.
I think this is one of the biggest misunderstandings that gets exploited by the Israeli far-right; Palestine is not a country, it does not have independence or autonomy. Even Hamas itself is a consequence of Israeli influence.
I’m not trying to be argumentative or anything, but it’s really important that people understand the dynamic of power in that region. We’ve been lied about the reality for years to make it seem like this is a “both sides” kind of scenario.
The term “open air prison” was what human rights groups (iirc amnesty international) used to describe Gaza. I dont know of any creditable international human rights groups that have referred to the west bank as an “open air prison” in their reports on the region.
so many companies would rather engage in collective punishment rather than just behave – see a similar thing with gamble-boxes in video games, companies are happier blocking countries rather than just publishing the odds/payouts/return-to-player …
It shows they make a lot more money by being unethical than by being ethical. If it were just a little more money they could just do the right thing and raise prices a little. It’s the same reason tech companies won’t let you pay not to be tracked: they make more money from accumulating information about you than you’d ever be able to afford to pay them.
They (under Epic Games) fired half their workforce. More specifically pretty much everyone who wrote for Bandcamp Daily. Thats about the only change so far.
the recording industry is an exploitative middleman that's obsolete in an age where you don't need a big company to press vinyl disks to get your music out there
