Corn can be vodka as well

Oakification is just the plant version of crabification

drolex, (edited )

Would you care to expand on that?

ETA: sorry for those who answered already (thanks), my comment was about the oakification part. I am well aware of the crabification, being a crab myself

zagaberoo,

Referring to Carcinization

DragonTypeWyvern,

A ludicrous theory when crabs merely wish they could match the might of the beetle empire.

Frozengyro,

Everything evolves to crab eventually

Just look at crab apples

TonyToniToneOfficial,

It was a joke. I don’t think oakification is real.

rockerface,

That’s what an oak would say

drolex,

Too late, I’m scared of becoming an oak now

xkforce, (edited ) in ?????

It is actually a Brassica Oleracea cultivar.

The UK loses billions per year since Brexit. We could instead ave used that money for this and still have been better off

That’s prob the least of their concern given the evolutionary pressures to disguise the nest from above.

Cuckoos are probubly about.

ThatWeirdGuy1001,
@ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world avatar

I think the funniest part about cuckoo’s is that they can’t be bothered to parent their offspring but some will still hang around just to make sure the host is taking care of the cuckoo’s chicks.

Like if the host bird notices the cuckoo chick and tries to not feed it the cuckoo will harass the host bird and try to kill the other chicks.

JoYo,
@JoYo@lemmy.ml avatar

The cuckoo arms race is facinating.

Some birds have developed specialized patterns in their young and specialized movements to prove they are not cuckoos. Cuckoos have developed mimicking patterns and movements as a result.

The_v, in Birding for Botanists

This meme is incorrect. A botatist would have names like:

“Little bastard who ate my Alyssum maritimum

“Fucker who at the flower buds on my Forsythia europea

“Little shithead who dug up my Lathyrus odoratus

LongbottomLeaf,

Correct. Also,

“Poops seeds of…”

“Nests in…”

One of my favorite part of planet earth was when they showed a fox steal baby chicks from a bunch of birds. At first I hated the fox but then it showed that the fox was doing it to feed their hungry children. It really taught me about perspective.

if a potato can become vodka then I can distill my own alcohol, unless of course the government finds out

bane_killgrind,

You can also be a doctor! Unless of course the government finds out

If it makes anyone feel any better, those being eaten are often sicker, weaker, and/or older than the rest (which makes them easier for the predator to capture and strengthens the heard by removing the unfit who continue to consume if not taken out)

It’s sad, yes, but it’s how life on earth has evolved. We all need a source of energy. Life is as brutal as it is beautiful

MuhammadJesusGaySex, in chadodiles

Another fun fact about crocodiles, and alligators is that they actually have the immune systems that conservatives think they have.

But for real, they are trying to make new antibiotics from crocodile and alligator blood.

Studied Ichthyology in the early 2000’s and will never forget how much of my A&P coursework was on birds. And how the lab TAs were not at all impressed when I just called them all air fish.

logicbomb,

This reminds me of how Stephen Jay Gould concluded that there’s no such thing as a fish.

There’s also no such thing as a tree. Tree is a survival strategy, not a biological classification.

P.S. If you haven’t listened to the No Such Thing as a Fish podcast by the QI elves, you’re missing out.
