It’s funny, the thing that bugs me the most in this is the over-expressivism of Threepio’s movements. He bulges and wobbles exactly like Anthony Daniels’ character doesn’t. Giving him more restrained motions would likely be easier animation.

squirrelwithnut, (edited ) in Just saw this picture with "good Disney Star Wars", do you agree?

lol no. Ahsoka was one of the worst Star Wars projects they’ve done yet. The rest of the list is spot on though.

I_Am_Jacks_____, in I like Star Wars

Me too! You know what, too? Last year I decided to rewatch all 9 movies again. I can’t remember if I did release order or timeline order. But I watched all nine ending with what I had been dreading: the sequel trilogy. And you know what, I enjoyed all nine. I did not like The Last Jedi when I first saw it. And hated The Rise of Skywalker. But on rewatch, they were good. I thoroughly enjoyed them. In fact, I even enjoyed The Phantom Menace and The Attack of the Clones this time too.

After finishing the movies, I was happy. I think the biggest problem most people have with movie “universes” these days is that if the movie goes in a drastically different direction than the watch expected, they get angry. But when I rewatched, I tried to go in with an open mind. And was pleasantly surprised.

I also enjoyed Kenobi, The Mandolorian, Andor, and even Boba Fett. I especially liked Ahsoka (Thrawn, baby!).

I just finished reading all of The High Republic novels through the end of 2023. I’ve really enjoyed those too. It’s great to get back to the Star Wars Universe.

That just reminded me that I’ve been putting off watching Asoka. I’ll have to check it out.

PrincessLeiasCat, in Just saw this picture with "good Disney Star Wars", do you agree?

Looks good to me.

pimento64, in Just saw this picture with "good Disney Star Wars", do you agree?

None of it is good except for parts of season 1 of The Mandalorian.

Ewoks in ROTJ were right up against the line, but didn’t cross it because the way they looked also served a narrative purpose in addition to their primary purpose of being a toy.

Special Edition ruined the franchise in 1997, and everything since then has been shit on top of shit.

FlexibleToast,

None of it is good except for parts of season 1 of The Mandalorian.

You meant to say, Andor. Andor is easily the standout in that crowd.

pimento64, (edited )

I found Andor to be shallow and pedantic.

…Either that or I’m so sick of Star Wars I just couldn’t stand it. I tried three times to get more than 15 minutes in without falling asleep or zoning out, couldn’t do it.

CarbonatedPastaSauce,

It’s a slow burn. I was not enamored with the first few episodes but by the end I was in agreement - best Star Wars since the OG trilogy. The acting is powerful, the writing is tight.

is that a hovering BB8 with claw attachment?

aeronmelon, in Concept art for AT-ST, by Joe Johnston

Wait wait wait!

Is that concept art suggesting that the AT-ST is the main vehicle and the four-legged version is an AT-ST with a trailer hitched to it?

setsneedtofeed, (edited )
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

No, unfortunately I’m pretty sure the comic I got this from just squeezed in some unrelated concept art onto the page. I’ve found what looks like a scan of the original sketch that doesn’t have that box. The original sketch also isn’t shaded, so I figure the comic do a little bit of adjusting for their presentation.

bamboo, in CLONE WARS: BATTLE OF THE HEROES - A Star Wars Fan Animation by HELLO THERE Production

That scene in the beginning was amazing. I never felt that Anakin and Obi Wan’s relationship was shown as brotherly in the prequels, but TCW changed that. Adding this scene makes the fight way more impactful than it was in the movie.

Baaron87,

I’m glad that was added. If you haven’t seen that before it was actually from an unfinished episode of TCW. I’m sure the unfinished episodes are still floating around the net somewhere.

Yeah, TCW added a lot of depth and weight to important moments in the prequels. The opening scene adds a ton of depth with the foreshadowing

DigitalGemini, in The Best And Worst Star Wars Blasters

Great post! Thanks for sharing.

altima_neo, in Before the prequels were released, what did you personally think the Clone Wars were like?
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

No clue, as I didn’t really care about Star wars till the prequels came out.

CluelessLemmyng, in Has anyone here used a controller for the PC version of Rogue Squadron? Is it worth getting a controller?

I would imagine it’s entirely worth it. The N64 controller didn’t exactly make it easy to use all of the buttons with 2 hands. The Xbox controller has the same number of buttons + a extra thumbstick, but they’re all accessible.

The only issue I can think of is you may have remap certain binds to the left bumper and left trigger.

4am,

N64 games were designed with the controller in mind, most didn’t use the L bumper or the d-pad at all.

TALL421, (edited ) in Is there a good list of which materials are considered canon beyond the films and how definitive is that list?
@TALL421@lemmy.one avatar

In short the “Disney canon” includes the 9 saga movies, rogue one and solo, the cartoon network 2008-2013 “the clone Wars” with Dave Filoni, star wars rebels, and star wars resistance. There are also of course tons of books and comics released in this canon as well but I believe there is a little overlap with old canon and Disney canon releases

Editing: here to add and clarify. That the Disney+ shows are indeed part of modern canon I don’t know how I left them out. As well as games like EA battlefront 1, and the multiplayer battles of 2 being a weird semi canon, the EA BF2 campaign and dlc is canon, Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor are canon. The ubisoft game “Outlaws” will also be in canon.

Varyk, (edited )

Thank you

Is this an explicit division of Canon?

And none of the books have ever been considered Canon as far as you know?

What is her is not part of the Star wars universe was never explicitly stated by Lucas or by Disney right?

So is this general consensus by fans?

setsneedtofeed, (edited )
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

It is an explicit division made by Disney. They threw out everything in order to make room for their own stories. All of the old pre-2014 books are non-canon. Any books freshly released after 2014 would be canon.

Varyk,

Oh that’s very interesting, thanks

AllonzeeLV, (edited )

I think they missed the Disney shows which are of course canon.

I’m in the minority here, but I consider Obi-wan especially to be primary canon, as necessary as Movies 1-6. They retconned in the emotional core of the whole damn saga with Obi-wan and fully realized Vader’s confrontation and resolution. That moment truly bridged the OT and prequels for me like nothing else had.

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

Disney’s stated policy is that there is no longer primary/secondary canon. There is (at least supposed to be) a storygroup working for Disney to ensure everything they make fits together because everything is equally canon.

In practice, there have already been issues but that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Varyk,

Good point, thanks. I’m surprised to hear that you’re in the minority for the Obi-Wan series being canon, Ewan McGregor is so Obi-Wan to me that I just assumed that show was cannon as well

AllonzeeLV, (edited )

Im not in the minority of acknowledging it being canon, I’m in the minority calling it essential canon. A lot of people hated it for its B story that I personally thought was fine.

TALL421,
@TALL421@lemmy.one avatar

I did totally forget to call out all the Disney shows, very silly of me as I’ve quite enjoyed them all at worst and are some of the best star wars has to offer, at best!

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not precisely that the old EU and canon overlap, but that the entire old EU has been thrown out. Within the fresh slate of new canon there are elements that are picked up and re-canonized, though they are changed to fit into the new canon.

Classic EU characters, ships, planets, etc might appear but that doesn’t imply the old stories they are associated with are also canon.

TALL421,
@TALL421@lemmy.one avatar

Oh yes, of course! I meant to say, I believe there were still a few legends EU books that released after the buyout when much else of the old continuity had already ceased

setsneedtofeed, (edited )
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

I get what you’re saying now. I actually double checked myself and the buyout happened in 2012, but the erasure of the old EU happened after 2014.

So there was slightly over two year period where Disney owned Star Wars with the old EU in place. A few books and things released then. Those few Disney released old EU stories were still turned into Legends like the rest of pre-Disney EU.

xspurnx, in AT-AT cutaway

Yes, this is awesome.

Anyone know the source? Are there different editions/prints to worry about if one were to go looking for the book(s) themselves?

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

It’s from the Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections book. The original (Millenium Falcon in the cover) or this updated version.

I probably should have put that in the thread opening. I am realizing I’m quite bad at this internet threading.
