Lifebandit666,

Mine is also different.

I got a Google Nest E thermostat off eBay from a charity shop for £12 and wired it in to where my old dumb dial thermostat was.

My ZigBee thermostats are just my ZigBee motion and door sensors that also have a temperature element.

I turned off the Nest smarts in Nest, and had HA come up with average temperatures for the whole house using the ZigBee things, then recreates the smarts in HA.

The Nest E smarts stopped working 6 months later but the heat link still worked, so I bought another off eBay for £20 and paired that.

I am gonna just get some ZigBee temp sensors at some point, but this works well enough for now.

Lifebandit666,

If it’s anything like my setup (posted in the thread) they’ll have a colder spot in the house, whereas the thermostat is in a warm part of the house.

My Nest heats to 22 degrees C but the whole house temp is a couple degrees lower than that.

When the whole house temp hits 20 the heating is switched off, but looking at the thermostat you’d think we’re heating the house to a silly temp, when in fact there’s a disparity between the thermostat temp and the temp of the whole house.

Lifebandit666,

Wrong explanations only

Lifebandit666,

You’re acting like birds are actually real or something

Lifebandit666,

Haha I’ve just come from a comment about Brexit, and I’d argue that a lot of Humans don’t think either.

Lifebandit666,

I second this statement. Most of my bulbs are IKEA. I have 4 floors and my ZigBee dongle is on the ground. If they weren’t repeaters, my Aqara motion sensors wouldn’t be working, but they do!

Lifebandit666,

I use bulbs I’ve bought from IKEA and Lidl. Because they’re ZigBee they’re local. The "Hub’ is HA because I have a ZigaZiga electrolama.com/projects/zig-a-zig-ah/ usb stick.

I use ZigBee2MQTT in HA to route commands to my bulbs (and sensors and plugs) which routes ZigBee commands through my MQTT broker which is also in HA.

The only app I use is the Home Assistant app

Lifebandit666,

I can already sing and play the guitar, not brilliantly but idgaf, so the Spotify one is really tempting. But I learned to play the Guitar from YouTube, and also how to speed solve a Rubik’s cube and pick a lock, so that one would be super useful too. In fact I could just type in “How to play X song on the guitar”

So one of those two I guess, probably the YouTube one because job interviews would be way easier after a quick scroll through the thumbnails of a quick search before going in.

Lifebandit666,

I do not agree.

Chrome: I know everything about every web page I have ever seen but don’t understand it.

So I don’t understand how to play a song.

YouTube: I know everything in the video from the thumbnail.

Closer, but I have to rely on the people on YouTube knowing wtf they’re talking about, meaning I gain knowledge about a lot of shit, and incorrect knowledge too

So the Spotify one, combined with the knowledge I already have of music, makes more sense for learning music.

Obviously using Musical Knowledge as the example

Can anyone recommend a wireless doorbell that works with home assistant?

I currently have a ring doorbell that I pay a yearly fee for but I want to get away from Amazon and a subscription fee. I would prefer if it used the Wi-Fi and it was able to connect with my house doorbell. Edit: I’d also like to add that I would like it to have the ability to stream and record video.

Lifebandit666,

Same setup here but it’s an Aqara ZigBee button.

I really like getting a notification that someone is at the door when I’m out. Yeah maybe it would be better with a video or picture, but I paid less than a fiver for it, including shipping from fucking China

Lifebandit666,

Satan wins again. At this point the Christians have to admit they chose the losing side.

I mean this God of theirs is shit, can’t even get around satellites, didn’t think humans might beat their cocks raw despite seeing it constantly in Human 1.0 (Chimps), or that they might eat fish on a Tuesday or whatever. Even Jesus was fucking a whore and he was God incarnate.

Also God invented Cancer.

Lifebandit666,

That’s not Jesus in your heart, it’s a worm

Lifebandit666,

There’s too much blood in my alcohol system

Lifebandit666,

By their own book, the bad guy thought the stupid naked people should have a bit of an education and the good guy punished them for trying to improve their knowledge base. Serpents rule!

I was taught in school that the real battle in the universe is between chaos and order. They gave it a fancy name, Entropy, but that was the gist.

So Chaos is God and Order is Satan. Live all hunter gathering under God or just go to the Supermarket under Satan, and spend the rest of your time doing other things, like making art or scientific theories.

Even now the Church is against progress. Don’t let them Gays get married for fucks sake, the world will explode.

Hail Satan.

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

A shit-fish Randy Bobandy

Lifebandit666,

Was he wealthy or wise?

Lifebandit666,

I’ve done all the shifts and it fucking sucks.

We did week about shifts. That meant earlies for a week, nights, then lates. Every week you had to change your sleep pattern.

I liked earlies to nights because long weekend (finish 11am Fri start 10am Mon) and a fun “adaptation” that required me to stay up as late as I possibly could on Sunday night. I’d drink, smoke and play games with US chums (UK here) until 3 or 4am and then sleep as late as possible.

It fucking sucked but I did it for a good decade. Then managed to wangle permanent 6-2 shift.

It was a revelation.

Suddenly I had a regular sleep pattern. It was hard to train, but I managed to get a good 6 hours a night most nights. Which was good, I’ve always suffered insomnia for lots of reasons, so I managed to become one of those people that survives on minimal sleep. More sleep was amazing.

I’ve kind of got it down nowadays, thanks in no small part to some pills I was given for my restless legs. They make me drowsy, so if I take them at the right time I can force a sleep pattern, and they stop me kicking my wife up the arse when I’m asleep.

Back to your point after a trip through the weeds, I now do 2 week late shift and 2 week early shift, there’s a permanent night shift at this new place.

When I’m on the early shift I wake up at 5am on the Saturday and Sunday without fail. Once I forgot to set my alarm for work and woke up a minute before it should have gone off. Years of the early shift have honed my wake up time to a knife edge.

Sometimes on the weekend I can’t get back to sleep for various reasons, so it’s not an uncommon sight to find me gaming on my PC at 7am on a Sunday morning. I don’t want to be there, but it’s kinda nice having the peace and quiet of being a night owl with the sun up and a sleep cycle behind instead of in front of you.

Lifebandit666,

I shined a torch in my wife’s sleeping face this morning at 5am.

I didn’t mean to, I was looking for my ear tunnel, it had fallen out in the night and I didn’t want to go a day at work with a cats arsehole for an ear lobe.

I looked for my spare ones first, I really didn’t want to be that guy, I’m a night person.

Anyway I sent her this and she had to remind me I was a bastard.

She’s right.

Lifebandit666, (edited )

Give this user a cats butt for being correct.

I was a big fan of the body modification scene when I was younger. Now I’m approaching my 40 my piercings have all been removed except these ear stretches.

Do I regret them? No I still quite like em.

Lifebandit666,

I’m sure this was the story line to “The Demon Within” or whatever it was called on Netflix. Kids thought they were possessed by the devil and one of them murdered somebody, but it turned out Mum was drugging them all with sleeping aids in their dinner every night and the cumulative effects were possession by the Devil

Lifebandit666,

Yeah I may have got the name wrong lol. It was a documentary about the only murder trial in US history that tried to use possession as a defence

Lifebandit666,

The whole family was adamant it was possession, then at the end one brother casually revealed his mum was drugging them throughout their childhood for a bit of peace and quiet, and that he had looked into the affects and it was hallucinations and shit. Other kids denied it all
