The correct way to handle this would be to use a disposable paper product. Most places still have a paper towel dispenser along side the air hand dryer, you’re supposed to use that.
Besides the point, most people don’t know how to properly wash and dry their hands. There’s a technique to both that actually improves cleanliness a lot and reduces overall waste.
I never use air based hand dryers. Paper towel for life. Some places use maze patterns instead of doors, which I generally like but usually requires some extra work with air handling to make sure the bathroom air stays in the bathroom, and a bit more floor space to provide the room for the maze pattern. Those restrooms are usually the ones without paper towel, I don’t mind, I just have moist hands for a few minutes afterwards.
All of this can be googled. So I won’t go into more detail, but the majority of people couldn’t possibly give fewer fucks about handwashing or hand drying properly. So I expect most won’t even try to learn how to do things better, ever. They just go with whatever their parents taught them as a child and never question it again. Bluntly, your parents probably did the same, so you’re probably working off of 50+ year old advice on hand washing.
I want my browser to be hungry. I’d rather have it using the memory for sites than have the sites reload when I switch tabs. I want it to be fast on all things.
This is not exclusive to Chrome. No matter what I use, I want it to be running from RAM and not have to swap or reload anything. Even things on my phone. I absolutely hate when I’m in the middle of multitasking on my phone and I go back to some information and the app has been unloaded and needs to load from scratch again (sometimes requiring a login to view the information I had previously retrieved).
That being said, I load everything I own up with about as much RAM as I can, and I buy devices with more RAM than I think I’ll need. Generally when considering an upgrade to my current cellphone, I’m looking at the RAM of the new phone and considering if the increased amount justifies the work and cost involved with changing phones (if there’s an increase at all). Since RAM will be the most significant factor in whether or not something can keep up with me.
My main PC has 64G, my laptop has 32G, and I believe right now, my current phone has 8G. It may be time to upgrade my phone…
I like this one. I’ve been hoping for some host-your -own AI models that I can dump into a system with a bucket of TPUs and a decent GPU for processing and get my own version of something like chat GPT at home then train it on the entire collective works of documentation and help articles about the software I usually do support for so it can act as a defacto repository of “natural language” chat/search for troubleshooting.
I just want good, cheap, and mass production ready solid state batteries of any sort. Right now, anything that’s on the market either isn’t good or isn’t cheap, and none of it is mass produced… Often all three.
If we get over the hurdle of something we can mass produce for cheap that’s as good as, or better than the existing lithium tech that we have, I’m in.
I don’t mind too much when it comes to news, or other articles… Even pictures and memes… Whatever.
The one that confuses the shit out of me is stuff that’s supposed to be interactive, like AMA or AITA or something. OP will never see the replies, so… Why?
Something like the news can have very different discussions depending on who is in the community/subreddit where it was posted, meanwhile, posts asking for help or something… The entire point is to give OP a solution/answer to their inquiry. Why make a bot to bring that question to Lemmy when OP won’t be aware it happened, and will have no way to know that responses have been given here? It’s dumb.
There’s still a lot of things that are being posted both to Reddit and Lemmy, and having that done by a bot instead of a person… Well, I’m not mad at it. It’s coming here one way or another.
I’m just going to come out and say it. Have your Christmas. Nobody else gives a shit about you or what you believe. So celebrate, enjoy. Nobody cares if you do. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone about it, and we wouldn’t notice if you tried.

Seriously, a single grilled cheese shouldn’t be more than $1, it should be much less… At least in materials… The cost of grilling it and cleaning up and whatnot should still be really cheap. Even if you wrap the sandwiches in wax/parchment paper or whatever and serve it, you should still be able to make a profit per sandwich. Whether you would be better off doing this rather than getting a job at McDonald’s or whatever… That will depend on how popular the food truck is…
I feel as though there was a “good old days” of the internet. Don’t get me wrong, it was a complete shit show, but it was anonymous, anyone could say anything that they wanted, and there would be few if any consequences. There were ads, but they were generally garbage animated GIFs at worst.
It wasn’t perfect, but we were free to do what we wanted on the internet, with little to no bearing on our daily lives.
Now, it’s almost expected that your online activity will be tied to you specifically. In most cases, your legal name is attached to it for everyone to see. If you try to go around without your legal name on everything, then generally you are either severely limited, or outright removed from the platform. Sigh

Most likely it has been hacked, and he would help me by remoting in and fixing the problem for me. I just wonder… Is it my PopOs or my Manjaro PC that sends all this info to microsoft?
Ehh. With enough digital forensics performed, you can generally get the information to authorities who will do something. For the average power user, this level of forensics is more than you’re going to be able to perform on your own. Simply having an IP address really isn’t sufficient. One unsubstantiated claim with an IP address doesn’t constitute enough evidence for them to take action, especially by someone who lives in a different country.
I only say so because I’ve seen the lengths some people have gone to in order to track down scammers and similar nefarious individuals and “companies”, and it is quite involved. Far more than what I would expect any single person to take on by themselves and frequently requiring extensive knowledge of the tools used, the vulnerabilities in those tools, and a fair amount of legwork (literally traveling around to collect information)… Which isn’t to mention a good amount of funding. At the end of the day, you’re just cutting off one of the heads of the Hydra, and they’ll be back in short order. There’s no shortage of morally bankrupt people willing to exploit and extort people with more money than sense, or at least, without enough technical understanding to know better. The problem isn’t exclusive to India, and with a billion people, there’s bound to be a disproportionate representation of scoundrels in that region whom are happy to rob anyone and everyone of their last dime just to get rich.
Bluntly, it’s more of a statement on humanity than it is of India, the Indian people, or their culture. These garbage people exist everywhere… Snake oil salesmen come to mind.
Instead of focusing exclusively on how fast you can get to the finish, which may result in missteps along the way that slow you down, focus on moving smoothly accounting for variables that might make the journey more rough and doing what you can to plan for/avoid them. Making everything “smooth sailing” all the way to the finish line. There’s a dozen different interpretations that can be applied here, and it’s more or less an adaptation of “slow and steady wins the race” but it’s so broad that it’s generally true.
Sometimes, speed for the sake of speed is faster, period, but often speed for the sake of speed comes with compromises and issues along the way which may make the whole process slower over all. I’d rather go smoothly than quickly.
A good real-world example of this is stop and go traffic. Instead of going quickly to catch up to the person ahead of you, then stopping abruptly, if you instead go at a slow/steady rate, you will burn less fuel, consume less of you brake material, and over all have a more pleasant drive than if you’re constantly stopping and going. In addition, if everyone were to adhere to this in heavy traffic, then most traffic jams would very likely be less impactful on travel delays. You’d get through congestion easier and with less frustration, and very likely arrive sooner, feeling more calm and relaxed.

I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...
They’ve been a “not user serviceable” component since before phones got water proofing.
Additionally plenty of things can be disassembled with screws and such, that are waterproof… Watches come to mind.
The fact that they’re making it impossible for we the people and owners of the products, to change the battery isn’t a technological limitation, nor a practical one. They did it so people will be forced to seek help to get a new battery, at which time, the vendor/carrier/whomever, can simply upsell the end user.
They did it to sell more phones. If you believe anything other than that, I have some land in Alaska to sell you.
