cashews_best_nut,

Nope. And the RSPB doesn’t believe cats are a concern:

The UK’s largest bird charity, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), is not particularly concerned about the impact of cats on the British mainland.

theguardian.com/…/cats-kill-birds-wildlife-keep-i…

And a Bristol study found cats kill the “doomed” weak and sick birds - not healthy birds: …wiley.com/…/j.1474-919X.2008.00836.x

cashews_best_nut,

And so begins a new battle in the eternal war between Americans with indoor cats and others with outdoor cats.

It’s pretty difficult to actually find an indoor cat in the UK. In the US it’s common.

cashews_best_nut,

I wish I was taught about the usefulness of maths growing up. When I did A-level with differentition and integration I quickly forgot as I didn’t see a point in it.

At about 35 someone mentioned diff and int are useful for loan repayment calculations, savings and mortgages.

Blew my fucking mind cos those are useful!

I might move again. (Or not) (lemy.lol)

I moved from Lemmy.ml because I liked the name of Lemmy.world and it ran a newer Lemmy version which meant I could make communities. I moved from Lemmy.world because they defederated from piracy communities they didn’t even host (but for some reason still kept the small piracy community they DID host) From thelemmy.club...

I had one of my posts on AskLemmy deleted for being “offensive”. It was asking a silly question “Are Brits the Americans of Europe?”. Some saw the lighthearted side. The professionally offended got it deleted.

Over-moderation will kill Lemmy instances. One of the reasons Reddit became as big as it did is due to very light-touch moderation verging on “absolute freedom of speech”. It was refreshing and ‘alternative’ compared to the increasing sanitisation of the Internet.

Unfortunately Reddit-rotted Zoomers have jumped from the heavy-handed Reddit modding to Lemmy and will quickly fuck up any attempt to grow the platform. Because they don’t remember/know how early Reddit worked.

They’re trying to moderate Lemmy like it’s a billion-user platform when it’s a few hundred thousand.

I really liked Jordan for a while. I even bought his book (12 Rules of Life).

But he seemed to go a bit mental at some point and I lost interest.

Then I read a massive blog post by one of his former colleagues that said he’d always wanted to establish a church and be a preacher. It all kinda fell into place and I realised he’d always been mental.

cashews_best_nut,

I don’t understand the obsession with rust.

cashews_best_nut,

It used to be called Movember and was meant to highlight mens sexual health. Testicular and prostate cancer.

Not ejaculating can increase the risk of prostate cancer and reduces the chance of you spotting testicular cancer lumps.

So people have switched from a healthy activity and awareness campaign to a stupid, unhealthy and pointless campaign.

Well done.

cashews_best_nut,

The “nofap movement” are a bunch of incels with cancerous prostates.

cashews_best_nut,

Doxxing is bad. I don’t care if the person is a murderer or a protestor. Doxxing can have many, very nasty unintended consequences that can hurt more than just the person being doxxed.

How do I reduce the squeaking of my faux leather sofa?

I’ve got a (faux) leather sofa (not sure how to tell difference). Sitting on it or moving around makes the leather rub together and squeak a LOT. It wouldn’t bother me but I live in an upstairs flat so I get paranoid if it’s late at night and I move on the sofa it’s “CREEESQUEEEEEEEUUUURRRR”....
