I agree that the situation in the article is complicated and that these homeless people were not exactly saints.

My point above is that these homeless people living in tents in an empty lot in January are worse off than the homeless people in the article that OP references. Those homeless people live in cars in a protected lot which I think is a big improvement from tent life.

I remember a 3D version of Tetris on an early IBM PC clone. Very early like 8088 or 286 PC. Don't remember the name and it was only wireframe and 1color (amber or greenscreen?) but I was very impressed with it. Seemed ahead of its time.

I too have been to a whore.

And I STILL smile about it.

[QUESTION] What is your favorite cut of steak and what's your go-to cooking method?

I tend to go for a NY strip 9/10 times when I’m buying steaks, unless there’s some good deal on something else. Or I’ll go to Costco and get a big roast and cut steaks out of it. I’m not super picky these days because I always sous vide and torch my steaks and they come out so nice no matter what the cut. Salt and pepper...

Ribeye; Costco has some awesome ribeyes. Get Prime if they have it.

That is for people like my uncle that had 3 TVs and a computer in his lounge.

I agree with you, that shit needs to stop.

What should be used for anonymous usernames?

More often than not, the best way to hide is to simply blend in with the crowds – this also encompasses one’s choice for a username. It is relatively simple to make a single throwaway account – just come up with a username, and off you go – however, if one makes throwaway accounts often, the task of thinking of a unique,...

I avoid G! as much as possible. I am not signed up for any of their services/accounts but I still stumble across pages using G! maps, etc.

I really stopped trusting them when they dropped their "Don't be evil" motto. Pretty clear sign of what was to come.

I buy most of my groceries and gas there so I'm there at least weekly so returns are easy for me...when I remember to bring them with me.

I see that Proton allows payment via PayPal. Is it possible to pay via PayPal anonymously? I don't use PP much at all so IDK.

I do similar with the screw on the cover plate for my light switch in my bedroom. I swipe it to discharge the static electricity.

“Koke bøker” means “to cook books”. The correct way is “kokebøker” and means “cookbooks”

Interesting idiom in English: To cook the books

This means to do dishonest accounting and make it look good for auditing. Might be two sets of books or similar fuckery.

I assume that "Koke boker" means to cook books physically on a stove or in an oven. But the way you stated it I might mis-interpret it to be dishonest accounting.

While I'm not liking your phrase "bad regional accents" I do think you have a point. There are many, many different English accents and to attempt to capture that in the orthography is too much hassle and detail. The "dictionary pronunciation" is really more of a proto pronunciation than actual dialect-ized speech. It is a generalization and standardization and to an extent "the correct" way to say something Which is prescriptive, ugly and discriminatory and quite likely also racist. But there really is a need to simplify and standardize instead of capturing every tiny nuance of all dialects.

In my mind the best way to do this is just pick what you believe to be the most standard English accent and use that. Acknowledge that there are countless dialects. But this is the standard.

I think I agree with much of this. I'll have to come back later and re-read more carefully but by and large this looks great.

But good luck getting English teachers onboard.

I keep several full size 30' tape measures in different places like my truck, kitchen junk drawer and (of course) toolboxes. You might find that more useful than a 6'. Cheap ones are fine, I think, as long as you don't drop them.

Mine is awesome!

I never encounter any traffic when I walk from the kitchen to the office. And so quick! Only two little shakes of a lamb's tal!

This is interesting. I thought heat pumps were only used to supplement another system not to replace it.

I think that was -60 windchill. Which is odd, I would think the windchill temp is irrelevant. Marketing and spin I guess.

How about a 20" box fan on low? Too loud? Put together several computer case fans, they're made to be quiet.

Either of these fans can also be used to make a Corsi-Rosenthal box to filter air. So you could do both...assuming it's not too loud...
