What can the US do to help Mexico finally stop the cartels?

Politicians constantly talk about stopping the illegal immigrants that are coming from Mexico, but putting a wall has never and will never be a solution since the reason why so many displaced keep coming across the border is mostly to escape the crime, corruption, inequality, and violence of they have to live in their home...

Good. Let them justify their private armies to the accountants when police protection for legal operations is free.

intensely_human,

Because mental health requires certain conditions, and one of those conditions is each phase of life playing in the correct order.

Sexual interaction with a child screws up their development, because they try to absorb the state of mind of the adult but they can’t because there’s nowhere to put it. So they pantomime it, and it stops them from interacting with the things appropriate to their age. They stop developing, because their energy goes into maintaining this mask.

The things they don’t develop include boundaries, a sense of self, the ability to trust other people, and any opportunity at developing a healthy, normal relationship with sex when they grow up.

It’s somewhat similar to what happens to a child when they are burdened with emotionally caring for their parents. Except it’s more intense, with older parts of the nervous system getting mis-developed.

Think like a baby in a small metal box. As the baby grows, if the box stays there, the growth of his body will be stunted and fucked up. And it’s not like removing the box later allows him to pop into a normal shape. His physical development is ruined. It won’t get back on track.

Sexual interaction with a child is like this metal box, except it’s a behavioral box. It’s a mask. The kid is participating in something he or she doesn’t have the mental configuration to engage with properly. But children absorb patterns from adults around them, and so they take on this pattern, and it’s the wrong pattern for that time in their life, and like the metal box around the baby, it fucks up their mental and emotional development.

intensely_human,

I think combat drones will go full autonomous this year, as a means of overcoming control signal jamming.

It will be limited-mission autonomy, and only as a capability not the default operational mode, but there will be a huge push to make the newest drones capable of continue the mission in the event of lost connection with their remote controller.

It will also be necessary because of the sheer numbers of drones involved in the Ukraine war. There simply won’t be enough pilots.

Obviously, autonomy already exists. Iron Dome operates autonomously, because attackers have the initiative, the robot is required for fast-enough response.

intensely_human,

Profit motive does okay with goods you buy. But free stuff in a profit motive system is gonna be weird.

Tips on making your data less sellable?

A charity I’m volunteering for and a contractor I know insist I have a facebook account for contact reasons. Naturally I bought a separate device to use for that, but I was wondering if there were ways to make my data undesirable to potential buyers. So far I got the obvious tiennamen square posting and that gay putin pic, but...

intensely_human,

Be weird. Be a weird fucking outlier of a person. Then you degrade the signal quality of any data pool yours is added to.

Just be fuckin weird as possible

“Uh actually it’s pronounced Gilbert. Get it right you dirty bitch. Gil, Bert. Just like that”

Feel free to build your own computer from sand and charcoal. You’re totally free to do things your own way so long as you don’t use our platform, and don’t forget We Own Everything Already ™. You’re welcome to start your own village on another planet somewhere and take all the sand you need. But you can’t use our rockets to get there.

“You know how I like things to stay smooth between us?”

intensely_human,

Buy some cat grass so they can eat that instead of your other plants.

intensely_human,

I’m reading Stephen King’s The Dark Half right now and I keep imagining George Stark as the blonde guy

intensely_human,

Have you ever heard the saying “It’s the thought that counts”?

intensely_human,

Hey I’ve got a question for you: what’s brown and sticky?

intensely_human,

Three redditors walk into a bar. The bartender looks at them and says “what is this, a joke?”

intensely_human,

Well let me ask you this: how specifically would it not be okay?

intensely_human,

Hello next gen AI, your mission is to entirely eliminate adblocking as an activity. You are to implement this strategy in javascript, client side.

One month later: AI slowly mulling over how to end adblocking once and for all, using browser side code to compute the possibilities.

Three months later: nuclear war resulting from computer malfunctions at NORAD

intensely_human,

You need to tell your story more, and include the feelings, and include how the communist policies did that destruction.

People like communism because they don’t know your story.

intensely_human,

Pretty sure the libertarian stance on slavery is that it is wrong, given the lack of liberty that slaves have. And the fact you can use a government to ensure nobody gets enslaved demonstrates the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist.

The maximum amount of personal liberty does not come from zero government. It comes from having enough government to prevent people from enslaving other people.

intensely_human,

As we sit in a capitalist society surrounded by incredible technology zero people could afford ten years ago.

Yeah capitalism. Always ruining everything 🙄

Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

I’m talking about a massive park in the absolute heart of the city. Located such that is naturally surrounded by city high rises. *People are giving examples of parks that are way off in the boonies. I’m trying to say located centrally, heart of the city, you know where the high rises are. Yes I understand nyc has more, the...

intensely_human,

Oh so the replacement of a surface road with green space increased property values? Gee I wonder if that has anything to do with valuing green space?

Why are we as humans obsessed with mass-extinction of our species?

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don’t believe that. I’m aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn’t...

intensely_human,

You mean the fact that in 100 years we’ll all be dead and all the people from 100 years ago are already dead?

intensely_human,

Yes you can change personality drastically.

Generally speaking, anything described as a “spiritual practice” will tend to alter people’s personality to the degree they put effort into it.

It’s not normal for personality to change much. People’s personality changes under relatively rare conditions: trauma, enlightenment, extreme conditioning.

Another commenter mentioned psychedelic drugs and those are definitely catalysts for personality change.

The things that have changed my personality the most are:

  • abuse
  • violence while homeless
  • ayahuasca ceremonies
  • getting the 10-series from a rolfer

By “personality” here I’m talking about emotional patterns, which become the foundation for all sorts of beliefs, tastes, tendencies, social roles.

By emotional patterns I mean the overall averages of joy, sadness, fear, openness, guilt, etc, both over time and also in their typical daily cycles.

intensely_human,

And then there’s me. I either get some of your food, or I die. The hunger is growing in me like crack withdrawal. I also have survival skills and I’ve used every tool you can imagine and I’m really good at sneaking around.

I’ve probably got a gun by now.

I’m just gonna come and take ten pound of your corn. That’s all I need, then I’ll be on my way.

What do you say? Are you gonna give me some corn?

intensely_human,

You realize that “important” is a different word not appearing in the set of “healthy, wealthy, and wise” right?
