psud,

Mine uses my phone as the key, I have to point my bum at the door to get it to unlock when my phone’s in my back pocket

psud, (edited )

I eat highland raised beef, fed entirely on their pasture, so probably very little pesticide or gene edited cereals

It’s only national parks uphill, upstream, from them

I use cast iron to cook, I dislike plastic cooking tools, so I use pans that can tolerate steel.

I drink from glass almost exclusively and I donate plasma, which is probably the only way of getting rid of PFAS chemicals (the “forever chemicals”)

You and I have heard the same stories. I follow “better to be safe than sorry”

I really care about food

Oh don’t forget about asbestos

We are in an ice age, you can tell because there is an ice cap at both poles.

We are in an interglacial period, which if we fixed carbon pollution today would still continue for tens of thousands of years beyond it’s expected end

There used to be a theory that this sort of weather reinforces the northern ice and glaciers and could start glaciation, but that’s not supported by modern models

psud,

The pedestrians and cyclists get good straight paths. The curves on the road are made by consuming its excess width

psud,

I wish my suburb’s streets were rebuilt to pedestrian/cyclist friendly style. It would be easy as every street has very easy access to the 80km/h square of main roads that surround it

You could block every street in the suburb in its middle and force all drivers to take the shortest path to a fast road, and let bikes and walkers take the short paths within the suburbs.

My street has about 2000 cars a day, with over 90% of them using it as a short path between two fast roads, or accessing or leaving a destination in a different part of the same suburb.

A friend lives in a suburb that’s a tree structure, that’s about a third best as there are no destinations from the “trunk” roads to anything but destinations within the suburbs. I’d hate to see that suburb needing to be evacuated quickly, but they’re deep in suburbia and on a hill, so safe from fire and flood

psud,

Transit ideally should be partly funded in the reduced road cost. Less so for buses, but imaging you linked exurbs and outer suburbs to the city by rail and a simple one lane each way road, instead of a five lane each way highway

psud,

5 o’clock shadow? Try 3 o’clock stubble. Right after shaving there’s shadow when your beard is black.

Fred Flintstone style

psud,

If I grow a beard, and wish to satisfy my wife’s preferences, my only choice is a wild beard

psud,

Do you know if 4k80 is complete yet? Their website suggests it might not be

psud,

Workers co-op is a good model for worker rewarding structures

psud,

Sure. When did you first hear about it, and that it was caused by burning fossil fuels?

psud,

I guess if you’re in the perfect partnership you and your partner could simultaneously take the red pill :)

psud,

IP is all internet protocol. TCP is the transmission control protocol

psud,

Seriously? Art, fishing, playing cards with friends, travelling the world, visiting galleries and museums

Though there’s a little truth in the saying idle hands are the devil’s tools. There would be more vandalism too.

psud,

The bird’s beak is just to the right of the centre

psud,

I have a 286 running DOS 6 for when I’m feeling especially nostalgic

psud, (edited )

Don’t worry about the terminal until or unless you have something to do that needs it, then follow a guide

Incidentally if a guide tells you to run a program in terminal, you can check what that program is supposed to do

  • man command (eg. man mount) gives you the manual, if it has a manual
  • command -h or --help gives you the command’s help page - pipe it through “less” if it’s more than a single screen eg: ls -h | less
psud,

But you still need to get at the audio settings to tell it that it should use your microphone for a microphone, not the USB camera

psud,

Nope. Lots of people can walk to the shops. We have suburban centres typically 15 minutes walk away

psud,

My workplace provides showers and lockers for staff who sweat on their way to work.

I can leave my smelly cycling gear in my locker and change into the work clothes I carried in, and wear the shoes I leave at work in the locker

psud,

One becomes faster as one cycles more

psud,

You use incantations for changing lights “red light green light one, two, three”
