Zippity, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I still look at a few specific subreddits when they pop-up in a search result.

notun, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

“You don’t have to do today again.”

CaptainBlagbird, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe once a week using RiF ReVanced for

  • Checking two small subreddit
  • Delete comments that haven’t been visible anymore but now are again (because I deleted newer comments, now the older ones starting to appear again)
ThatsMrCharlieToYou, in Have you ever had a hyper realistic dream that you still remember after years?

I’ve not thought about this for a few years but yes. When I was a boy, I used to have a recurring dream of myself climbing this surreal-y tall climbing frame type thing. It was in an empty field. It had four repeating sections like a rope swing, rotating bridge, thick net, monkey bars, climbing wall etc. Stuff you’d typically find on an assault course or game show. It was even padded with the foam and vinyl you find in kids’ play areas. I’d have that dream most nights and would always fall out of the thing after 2-10 sections had been climbed. Well, I had resigned myself to continually climbing this thing each night and being awoken once a night as I hit the floor after falling. I’d always start at the height I fell from the previous night but progress felt minimal. Then, I finally reached the top. I remember looking around this field atop this ridiculously tall structure and feeling this great accomplishment. I genuinely couldn’t, and still can’t, believe that I got to the top. There was a massive slide from the top. I don’t think I could properly express just how long this was from the height. I rode it down and that was the last time I dreamed of it. I kind of miss that dream.

DrQuint, in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

I mean, recently? “Just use the official app, it’s the same thing”, lmao.

But overall, the worst of all time was someone telling me how to cope with a lack of friends by suggesting some stupid, isolating hobbies.

match, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?
@match@pawb.social avatar

enjoy your sex trip and I wish you happy bottoming! if you're not going to be doing too much physical labor during this time I recommend going full bottom mode: the week ahead of it start eating very lightly, initially a high fiber diet with added psyllium husk or metamucil. your body might be different but mine would say no dairy during this time. for the day before or even two, switch to a meatless and somewhat low fiber diet - ramen noodles is a classic, cookies, soup, other carbs. before you leave for the trip, clean out with an enema bulb (or store bought enemas if your ass is bougie or inexperienced). the combination of low fiber and low food throughput should keep you from having to poop and whatever poop is still in your tract will get largely removed by the enema.

while you're out at your fuck-tent, consume most of your calories from simple carbs as much as your body will handle so as to give your microbiome less to work with - applesauce is kinda nice, fruit snacks, white bread. eat like a twink!

remember to stay hydrated!! I know you're not trying to pee either but it's important to hydrate even if it means suffering whatever penalty your dom is giving you when you ask to be let out to pee

I'm dead holy shit 🤣

Very_Bad_Janet,

eat like a twink!

Is this why they call it the BRAT diet?

manifex,

Gimping: A Primer

Atiran, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

I’ve seen The Fellowship of the Ring more times med than I can count. I love the whole trilogy, but Fellowship is my favorite.

manuahelice, in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

yeah, having everything taken over by memes is annoying.

Cethin,

You can block them. It’s so much nicer with them gone.

tias, (edited )

I want to see them, I just want Lemmy to distribute them more evenly among other communities in the feed. As others have suggested the sorting algorithm should weigh each score inversely by the average score of posts in that community.

Beans memes were funny for about 10 minutes

Zeroxxx, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Redreader is still working.

Alirrasona, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I use Linux full time now, with the exception of the Adobe suite, which runs in a VM right now and will be changed to a dual boot once I installed a second hard drive. I use GIMP and Inkscape where I can, but i need the big evil Corp software for bigger projects where the Foss software falls short.

If the software runs on Linux natively someday or a Foss alternative is on par, I will gladly make the full switch.

Alex, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I only visit reddit if I google something and a reddit thread about the problem pops up in the results. Otherwise, I’m completely off reddit.

AbyssalChord, (edited ) in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@AbyssalChord@feddit.de avatar

Roughly a month on Lemmy now and the habitually visit of Reddit completely faded out. Lemmy replaced Reddit without any compromises for me. I’m also trying to establish a Bass-guitar related Community here, so there’s a bigger investment for me to get things going here.

Matt_Shatt, (edited )

I put the Memmy icon right where Apollo used to be so now Memmy is where I go. The main feed isn’t as plentiful yet but it’s growing…

BorgDrone,

Same.

I only check /r/ModCoord once every couple of days to check on the state of the dumpster fire.

imaqtpie,
@imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works avatar

I agree. I’m not getting nearly as much content over here, but I don’t miss it at all. I didn’t realize how much of my time on reddit was spent “hate-reading”. It has totally transformed the way I use the internet; I almost never commented on reddit.

Lemmy has been an absolute revelation for me. I was so lucky to find it early on and I want to share this experience so others can have the same happiness. Just waiting for the developers to iron things out first before I try to recruit my normie friends 😅

InigoMontoyota,

Third week for me and haven’t visited for a few days now. Less and less as more content shows here.

hbar,

I feel the same way. It was weird breaking the habit of clicking the RiF app when I unlock my screen, but after a while the need just went away.

Predator, (edited )
@Predator@feddit.uk avatar

Unfortunately I’ve been reeled back to RIF because you can apply a patch now that allows you to login. It’s hard to resist the familiar look of that app.

hbar,

Ahhh, I’m not sure if I should let that addiction back in!

hbar,

I can’t even find RIF on the app store anymore, did they take it down?

Predator,
@Predator@feddit.uk avatar

It’s available if you can find the direct link to the playstore. I have a link to the golden platinum version.

MementoMori,

Would you be willing to share, please?

@4am@lemmy.world avatar

I put Memmy where Apollo was and I didn’t even have to retrain myself

I do find that I use the fediverse less, as my “front page” gets stale much quicker. But this is not only something I can probably fix, but also don’t mind because it reminds me how much I duck out into social media which helps me say “ah fuck it” and do something else.

robmexx,
@robmexx@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly the same here. But I have a feeling the stream of content will come sooner then later too

jeena,
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

Same here, although, like once or twice a week when I remember that I used to go on reddit I go there to see what’s going on, but the habituall check is now always lemmy.

peter, in do you guys shop on places like aliexpress/Temu and if you do what items have pleasantly surprised you?
@peter@feddit.uk avatar

I’ve bought from aliexpress in the past for obscure electronics that you can’t really get anywhere else for a good price. But I will never shop at temu, I am incredibly suspicious about how they have such an incredibly large advertising budget yet their prices are so low. Either it’s a straight up scam or they are expecting to make a lot of money later down the line

yuunikki,

My guess is just them dumping money into advertising hoping it takes off, which it seems like it has.

peter,
@peter@feddit.uk avatar

But even so, the margins on the crap they sell must be so thin

NekoKamiGuru, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@NekoKamiGuru@ttrpg.network avatar

I am lurking and watching the dumpster fire at this point , reddit went full Authoritarian on Dndmemes and sacked a bunch of cool mods because we turned it into a goblin porn subreddit for the shutdown/blackout and the admins did not like that… so I am posting here now and watching Reddit burn in the distance.

son_named_bort, in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

“There are people worse off than you”

Thanks, that totally solves my problem.

the_third,

I always tell them “Following that logic, there’s only one person in the world that can complain. But that dude really got it bad.”

rmuk,

My counter is always, “and there are people better off than you, so stop being happy.”
