TWeaK, in What are your "weirdest" pizza toppings or other weird food combos?

Not mine and I wouldn't recommend it, but in Barcelona once I had a pizza with octopuss and potato.

To this day it remains the only pizza I did not want to finish.

nacjo,

That sounds like a pizza version of Polbo à feira.

Which is a culinary abomination.

MudMan,
@MudMan@kbin.social avatar

Waste of good octopus, I bet.

Spanish crimes against pizza should be prosecuted in the Hague.

Let me introduce you to the "pizzalad".

Mothra,
@Mothra@mander.xyz avatar

Once I tried Hawaiian pizza with cherries on top. That’s my pizza I did not want to finish. But I probably wouldn’t want to even try the octopus and potato one either.

TWeaK,

I've had (sweet) potato work on a pizza before, the pieces need to be pretty thin to cook properly. The octopus was overcooked on that one and the potato were large chunks and undercooked.

pieceofcrazy, (edited )

Jesus fucking Christ, I'm Italian and when I was in Korea we tried a couple of pizzas (it's always fun to see how foreign countries make it) and they were all so damn sweet. Turns out they put sweet potatoes everywhere.

Potatoes and octopus doesn't sound bad tho! I'm not sure I've ever seen it but I sure would try it (if they're well cooked that is)

EDIT: typo

TWeaK,

I really appreciate an Italian who isn't prescious over pizza! Of course, traditional Italian pizzas are great, but that doesn't mean alternatives can't be awesome too!

IMO, so long as the toppings go well with the sauce (eg a fajita pizza should have a spicier sauce) then you can make something great.

pieceofcrazy,

Yeah man, we Italians are unbearable when someone from other countries DARES to even THINK about modifying the holy recipe. And I kind of get it. I, too, cringe when I see people putting ketchup on their pasta or shit like that, but I eat sushi with Philadelphia cream cheese in it so what right do I have to criticize ketchup on some pasta or pineapple on a pizza (which is actually freaking good when done well)?

At the end of the day, the cool thing about cousine is how it changes and evolves around the world and through the years. Jesus, most of the recipes we consider "traditional" didn't even exist one or two centuries ago (some of which were invented, at least in part, by american soldiers in italy during WW2, and generally come from external influences).

We Italians are a bunch of snobby conservatives when it comes to eating. Well, we are a bunch of conservatives when it comes to anything, but that's another story.

P.S. This whole concept of topping and sauce is completely alien to me, here we have "white" (with no sauce) and "red" (with tomato sauce) pizzas, and put a bunch of stuff on it

blackstrat, in What do you use for a domain registrar?
@blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk avatar

I use namecheap.com with the DNS on Cloudflare

orionstein,

Namecheap is great

Thndrchld,

Seconded. I have multiple domains on name cheap, and manage those domains with cloud flare. Even my self-hosted stuff at home. Especially my self-hosted stuff at home. Maybe google wouldn’t notice a ddos, but my shitty spectrum internet sure would.

Kissaki, in I need to survive for 3 days while pooping as much as possible. I can pee as often as I like. It can take up loads of space. What food do I pack?
sussy_gussy,

OP here asks the opposite question

synima, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

Leaving a comment to be part of Lemmy history.

Dubois_arache, in What song do you listen to when you are upset and want to calm down?
@Dubois_arache@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Maybe every song of Manuel García.

personally i’m using mastodon and browsing the hashtag

dan, in What do you use for a domain registrar?

I like gandi.net. Their UI is pretty inoffensive.

FredOnline,
@FredOnline@kbin.social avatar

Recently their prices have skyrocketed, Gandi are now poor value for money.

dan,

Oh really? That's a shame. Do you have a better alternative?

FredOnline,
@FredOnline@kbin.social avatar

The majority of my domains were with Gandi, they're now with Porkbun.

Also, check out this link for prices/offers, etc:

https://tld-list.com/

StuffToWrite,

Thanks for that website, really useful!

Didn’t know this existed

chameleon,
@chameleon@kbin.social avatar

I've been happy with Gandi but their future looks bleak. Gandi was bought by Total Webhosting Solutions/now your.online a couple of months back, which is pretty bad news. They've been purchasing Dutch companies and increasing prices while letting their services turn to shit for a while now. The raised prices came in a few weeks ago, we've yet to see the services turn to shit but I am extremely confident it will happen.

Gandi is just the first international purchase by TWS, so not many people know it, and there are few relevant references on the English-speaking web as most of this was localized to the Netherlands. You'd have to search on Dutch tech news sources like tweakers.net and use some translation tool to find anything meaningful.

dan,

Ah that's disappointing, I've been a pretty happy (occasional) user for years. Enshittification hits everything eventually :(

xtremeownage, in What is your opinion about Lemmy not having karma but Kbin having reputation points?

Technically, lemmy does actually track a user’s karma.

It’s- just not exposed via the user interface… as of right now.

Kinda of like how kbin displays who upvotes and downvotes. Lemmy also tracks this data too, and can easily report on exactly who is upvoting and downvoting.

In the case of this post, for example-

https://lemmyonline.com/pictrs/image/3ecc096c-ddd1-4580-8851-a4699f032860.png

xtremeownage,

In the case of karma- Its all there too.

Comment Karma https://lemmyonline.com/pictrs/image/5d1cef06-9cb5-4f79-b04e-5ddc03f25bdb.png

Comment Negative Karma. https://lemmyonline.com/pictrs/image/2f6ac98d-b0d2-4a24-a431-cc40066c47a4.png

And- post karma exists too.

floofloof,

Oh dear. I am disappointed to see that. I can understand the point of scoring posts and comments, but what’s the point of keeping a score for the user? Is there a use for it now, or is it being kept just in case there’s a use for it later?

Hopefully it will not get exposed in the UI.

xtremeownage,

For votes to work, the data of who voted where has to be tracked.

Karma is just a matter of adding numbers together.

I think the data can be useful for anti spam reasons

It's necessary because the website is transparent, if you were to federate with an instance, you'd need this information in order to moderate your instance, in order to check for bots, and various other things, that's the only reason it exists.

gylotip,

I am disappointed by this. Karma ruins whole discussions, and I hope the devs never add something bloody dreadful like that.

masto, in What are your "weirdest" pizza toppings or other weird food combos?

I’ve been spreading the gospel of mac & cheese pancakes ever since I saw this video and tried making some. youtu.be/ayZYfRXS6Do

My home version is slightly different, rather than cooking macaroni separately I just take advantage of whenever we have leftover mac & cheese.

Lemmy and lemmy-ui

Lemmy itself. What the instances (lemmy.ml , lemmy.world etc) run. It's not something users can update to.

It's pretty nice if you're into programming articles! I wouldn't say it's a full reddit replacement since it's more geared to programmers, similar to hacker news but I think it's worth having around. There's also a decent mobile app for iOS called Claw

sporez, in What app do you use for Mastodon?

When I was on Android I could never find one I really loved. Trunks came the closest. On iOS Ivory and Mona are both amazing. Mona has a one time purchase so if you’re allergic to subscriptions that’s the way to go.

sporez, in What do you use for a domain registrar?

Current favorite and where most of my domains reside is Porkbun. Secondary choice would be cloudflare.

FredOnline, in What app do you use for Mastodon?
@FredOnline@kbin.social avatar

On my Android 'phone I just use the official app from the Play Store, it fulfills my needs. There are no ads, which was the reason I wouldn't use the official app for Twitter.
