Could probably buy enough congressmen to pass a few laws. Not sure what the best ones would be.

fsxylo, (edited )

Except scum recognizes scum and only does deals with each other. That’s why you hear the prices are so cheap, it’s practically a formality.

AlfredEinstein,

This is absolutely true about corrupt people seeking each other out.

A disembodied force of pure evil exists in this world, and its minions are working together.

Devi, in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

Mine is Rosie, the maid in the jetsons, cause it's the future and I have a cleaning robot.

taffingitout,

Same here!, although we call her by the Spanish version “Robotina”. Just in the hopes that more of the stuff from the Jetsons actually comes to fruition.

chrisgpz,

Hah! Ours too! :)

tophneal,

Same here

jafo,

I call her by her full name: Rosie the Roomba

GiuseppeAndTheYeti, (edited ) in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

Ours is Rob VacElhenny

chunkyrice,

On a similar vein, I named mine Charlie because mopping and cleaning floors is Charlie work.

misophist, in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

I’m not very clever, so my nearly useless Shark vacuum is named Baby Shark, but I’m going to steal one of these when I get a good one.

Chee_Koala,

“Beter goed gestolen, dan slecht bedacht” is a Dutch proverb meaning: Better to pirate a good idea, than invent something new but worse. And now we have dikes everywhere, awwwww yeah! FREE LAND

I may be paranoid, but no android

Spez killed third party apps so he could track people and sell ads. First party apps were bad and getting worse. And the whole way it went down was just dishonest and shitty. I don’t wanna support that.

I also really enjoyed being able to see new content AND comment on it/interact with the community. That was the reason Reddit was cool to me. If I didn’t channel that energy towards something else I’d have ended up back on Reddit.

And the cherry on top, I love the idea of decentralized social networks. It’s better for the internet.

AnExerciseInFalling, (edited ) in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

Gyoza/potstickers/dumplings

I will inhale plates of em and the time it takes to wrap em made me both appreciate the food more and appreciate the premade ones so much more

jol,

In the same line, gnocchi.

catsdoingcatstuff, in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

Bubble tea. I’ve made everything from scratch before, but it’s so much easier to just buy one and let someone else cook the boba.

idunnololz, (edited )
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah the biggest annoyance is the tapioca. It’s hard to get just right (chewy but not too soft), you cant really make large batches and save it for later and it takes a long time just to make a single serving for one drink.

Drunemeton, (edited ) in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?
@Drunemeton@lemmy.world avatar

Phở Bo (Vietnamese beef soup). It’s such an amazingly good soup, but the making of it is a multi-step process that takes hours.

https://www.cooking-therapy.com/traditional-vietnamese-pho-recipe/

pokemaster787,

If you’ve got a pressure cooker you can make pho ga (chicken pho) in under 30 minutes and it’s almost as good as beef in my opinion. Also way cheaper to make than beef pho.

Drusas, (edited )

I've got to disagree. When I make it, it tastes so much richer than the more quickly made stuff you can get at any restaurant. The two don't even compare.

Edit: Even more so, bo kho. The homemade stuff takes me about 14 hours for a big batch with lots of leftovers. I can't even bother eating the stuff made at restaurants where they cut corners and don't simmer all day.

idunnololz,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

I used to think this until I spent a month tinkering with different recipes and ideas to make a good “cheater pho”. Pho that doesn’t take 1 day to make yet gets about 90% of the tastes of a great pho. I think i succeeded but it’s probably basphamy to some people.

I found the food networks recipe to be a great starting place if you want to give it a shot.

change the political situation in America?

Change for the better or for the worse?
(hint: the latter comes cheaper)

Mr_Blott,

Which one involves a giant fuckin nuke?

Both.

mbgid, in So, who or what ruined Christmas this year?

I woke up at 5 in the morning with a stomach bug 🤢

brain_in_a_jar,

I also have a stomach bug! Never really realised how much of my usual Christmas Day revolves around food 😥

mbgid,

I hope you recover from yours quickly. Food is the thing about Christmas I look forward to the most. This year I’ve just about managed to eat 5 plain crackers in the past 24 hours 😂

Michael Bloomberg spent $1 billion to run a distraction campaign, taking headlines from Bernie Sanders’ repeated wins in the early 2020 Democratic primary. Bloomberg spent $500M the first week to flood the internet with influencers and meme makers being absolutely distracted by the low torrent of low effort shit post memes about Bloomberg. It was so obviously an astroturf campaign built on fake sentiment that everyone forgot Bernie won 5 states in a row and was crushing Biden. By the end of the month, Elisabeth Warren also bowed out and took her progressive voters to Biden.

So for $500 Million you can ruin a grassroots campaign! Buy bad memes and pay influencers to distract people.

It’s funny when you pretend that each of those weren’t 100% coordinated by the DNC to prevent Bernie from winning a bunch of states and perhaps the presidency.

RedAggroBest, in Who are your favorite overlooked historical figures?

Alexander Graham Bell. How can the guy who invented the telephone be overlooked you ask? It’s actually pretty low on the list of his (yes this is subjective) coolest achievements. His Wikipedia page is a blast.

lazylion_ca, (edited )

Theres a museam in Cape Breton dedicated to him. Barely any of it was phone related.

I probably would have been here sooner had I known about it prior, but I came here because Reddit did a fucky-wucky and now the good apps don’t work. Though I had been getting sick of how many people were just awful there anyway and the only other place I had known about was Tumblr, which isn’t very condusive to conversation. When the announcement of the API shit happened, Lemmy kept getting mentioned (along with other sites) and it was the closest thing to Reddit that wasn’t Reddit.

It not being owned by a single entity is just a happy little bonus.

BigBrainBrett2517,

Hear, hear & Bravo!

Nemo, in What do you like about socialism?

That it’s anticorporatist.

rustyriffs,

I wish there was a movement called anti corporatism, literally. I feel like we need something new since anything socialism related is automatically bad to a lot of people…

Lividpeon, (edited )

Those people tend to be the ones benefiting most from socialism without realizing it. There also is a lot of confusing communism with socialism in here, they are not the same thing
