Vintage memes are comfy

Fal, in Why are most memes on Lemmy from 5-10 years ago?
@Fal@yiffit.net avatar

Because literally everyone on Lemmy is 35

Ferris,

Nah, you’re two years off.

Or, more likely, my parents managed to hide two years of my life from me.

That’s awful sneaky of them.

NakariLexfortaine,

Yours, too?!

Damn them! Stealing our years with the expectation they’ll get to enjoy them. Not in the cheapest retirement home Florida can offer!

Draegur,

That must be why I like it more here.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Im 12 and what is this?

Ulvain,

35 is a very young age that people in their 40ies like me envy the youth of.

cashews_best_nut,

Aww shucks, thanks. I’m actually 40 but people say I look younger since I went on a diet.

OhmsLawn,

I’m a decade older, but I feel like a lot of people who left for Lemmy were active on Reddit 10-12 years ago, and have preference for the flavor of discourse of that time. As it grew, reddit became far too sarcastically meta in a lot of ways. What was once a spicy “in joke” became boilerplate. I’m not surprised at the exhumation of the old memes. It may just be a phase of some sort, a necessary reset, who knows?

KISSmyOS, in Tech workers - what did your IT Security team do that made your life hell and had no practical benefit?

This is done to keep employees from sticking in unknown thumb drives that could install malware. Several critical systems on protected networks have been hacked in the past by leveraging human curiosity and placing a compromised thumb drive on the ground in the companies parking lot. Gluing shut the USB ports is a simple defense against that.

yoz, in What are some companies that deserve to be boycotted to death?

I keep reading everywhere “fuck nestle” and then I see their 2022 FY report with sales increased to 104.95 billion thats 8.4% from.previous year.

So the question now is

WHO’S FUCKING WHO ?

EarWorm,

The thing is that Nestle owns fucking EVERYTHING, so it’s really hard to boycott all of it. I have managed so far, but I don’t expect everyone to go through the effort

Damaskox,
@Damaskox@lemmy.world avatar

I think, to truly boycott something, is to actually be invested in it. To really NOT buy or use a service or product, no matter the situation. To look for other products and services that are more moral and to start using them instead, even when the costs would be higher.

What is important to you?

You can hate the system, hate someone, a thing, product, service. Something. But it’s your choice, will you actually do differently or still just follow the path they made for you as an option to follow. And sometimes it may be the only path available.

PonyOfWar, in Who agrees this was the best one?

HeartGold and SoulSilver improved upon gen 2 in almost every way while staying faithful to the originals. For me those are the perfect Pokemon games.

ryathal,

They over nerfed Whitney’s miltank.

spicytuna62,
@spicytuna62@lemmy.world avatar

I agree with you on that. HGSS was major improvement on GSC. Plus, it had a pedometer lol

But GSC honestly scratches that itch I get for classic Pokemon in every way. I missed out on the physical/special split so it took me a while to adjust once I started playing Gen 4-6 (haven’t played past 6).

In short, New Coke might be objectively better, but it’s not Coca-Cola Classic lol

mojo, in Who agrees this was the best one?

Emerald was my other favorite

echodot, in What are some companies that deserve to be boycotted to death?

EA need to make some decent games so I cannot buy their games on principal, rather than not buying their games because I don’t care.

RebekahWSD, in Who agrees this was the best one?
@RebekahWSD@lemmy.world avatar

Crystal was my first Pokémon game! I loved it.

Taringano, in What's an amusing thing to say before going under general anesthesia?

Make comments unrelated to your actual procedure.

“hope the transplant goes well.” / “really looking forward to this m to f transition”

captain_aggravated, in What's an amusing thing to say before going under general anesthesia?
@captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works avatar

I actually did this one.

I was having my wisdom teeth removed. I was like 23. The anesthesiologist was a cute little blonde chick. Apparently the last thing I said before I went under was “Man this girl is a real…knockout…”

I didn’t get her number.

notelonmusk, in Why does eating a frozen ready meal alone feel depressing even tho it's objectively good that I can have nice warm food easily

I just wanted to say I love how you phrased the question and un upvote was not enough to express that

TheEighthDoctor, in Who agrees this was the best one?

Silver is the best one, but I’ll allow it

Colour_me_triggered, in What's an amusing thing to say before going under general anesthesia?

“I usually prefer isoflurane, but I’ll take a hit of this” only works if they don’t use isoflurane.

“So this was what it was like for my victims” if you want to go dark.

I feel like it’s kind of the same in other meme communities like 9gag and reddit. Reposts upon reposts upon reposts, with the occasional funny new thing.

Topical meme communities are sometimes a bit better with this.

Damaskox,
@Damaskox@lemmy.world avatar

And sometimes a meme doesn’t age. Sometimes, old sayings can still work wonders in new situations. Sometimes even better than what a new one would.

I don’t think old needs to be reinnovated just because it’s old. I enjoy many old things!

EnderMB, in Why are most memes on Lemmy from 5-10 years ago?

Well, if it’s content, I don’t really give a fuck, to be honest. Lemmy needs more engagement, and if that means posting 20 years of memes in a 2 year time period, let’s see some nyan cat! 🌈

  • EnderMB,

    Well, why don’t you use some critical thinking, rub whatever brain cells you have together, and see if you can come up with a link between:
