My Sony Xperia 10iii still has that light as well as a heaphone jack, SD card slot that can be removed by hand (no ejector tool needed) and full waterproofing. These are literally all the features missing on newer phones. Plus it has a genuine 3 cameras: wide, ultrawide and telephoto - no fake “macro” BS here.
Best of all it’s successor the Xperia 10v can be bought on the UK Sony site for just GBP299! Incredible price. But alas I don’t live there but if one had a friend there you could have them order it send it to you via courier.
I’ve had an Xperia for years. It’s indestructible I swear, never had it in a case and it’s been dropped, kicked, smacked, and generally knocked around for all of those years with hardly a scratch on it. I want to say I’m due an upgrade so I could think about a newer one, buuuut… Honestly it’s just such a trooper I don’t see why I’d bother. The XZ1 is nearly 7 years old now so the camera frankly sucks, but that’s it.
Surprisingly (to me), having a child. I never wanted kids. Never even babysat, didn’t like them-- hated how silly, loud, and disgusting they are. Then I got pregnant by accident. I was terrified. I was abused as a child and have a bad temper, so I was afraid I would lose it and hurt my kid. Pregnancy was difficult, labor and delivery moreso, but the instant he popped out … I cannot describe to you the transformation. I am sure it is purely hormonal; pitocin is a helluva drug. My husband even said, “Who are you and what have you done with my wife?” It was akin to a lobotomy. Suddenly I adored babies and wanted to hold them and coo at them. I became more mellow and patient, went from the sort of conservative mindset that thinks “get a job,” to the theretofore incomprehensible liberal views like “most in jail aren’t really to blame for the circumstances they find themselves in, let’s help them instead of punish them.”
My son is by far the biggest blessing in my life. He is a companion that I never grow tired of, a wise sounding board, and a balm to my old age. I am literally a kinder, better person because I had him.
I used to remove them from customers homes. It was a very similar story each time. They loved it for a little while then it sat for 5 plus years used as a big outdoor table to hold other stuff on top the cover. It also is a bit pricey and a hassle to get rid of them. Most of the time I would have to cut it into 4 pieces to move the thing. I think they are a bit of a waste for most people. Mosquitos love them though.
You’d start by attending $10,000 plate dinners, and shaking hands with candidates and expressing views. Hire a few $60k a year idealists for a think tank to publish papers. Pick 1-2 issues and hammer them. Pay lobbyists to set up meeting and propose/write legislation and amendments.
As some of your (hopefully idealistic) candidates win, you ask them to help drive your issues through. Get them to make concessions to other people’s proposals for support on theirs, helped by your lobbyists. Use your think tank to drove issues and provide talking points and legislation.
That’s the traditional view. A better approach might be to create a 501c3 and run positive message ads that give you a warm feeling about america in general, say nothing of substance, and include a candidate you like’s name sometimes. Then another pac showing pictures of the candidate you don’t like and chanting “hate hate hate” behind them. Play to your audience.
March 2023: A new podcast, The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling, produced by Bari Weiss’s The Free Press and hosted by prominent former Westboro Baptist Church member Megan Phelps-Roper, featured interviews with Rowling. In its fifth episode, Rowling begins discussing the modern trans rights movement, calling it “a cultural movement that was illiberal in its methods and questionable in its ideas” and insisting, “I believe, absolutely, that there is something dangerous about this movement and that it must be challenged.” She then compares the movement to Death Eaters — the villainous supremacists in her books, analogous to Nazis…
Bari Weiss is not someone to give your time to so thanks for posting that. Nearly everything she writes now is dishonest and she pretends to espouse liberal ideas while constantly taking conservative positions and then calling herself a “left-leaning centrist”. It’s hot garbage.
I listened to the podcast. The interviewer doesn’t challenge Rowling at all and simply lets her speak/answer with her incorrect assumptions. However it also shined a light on how badly thought out her ideas are and how informed she is, not by empathy, but by her own prejudice. After listening, I became even more confident in my opinion of Rowling.
I also think it’s worth a listen is you can swallow your bile for the first few episodes.
That sort of data doesn’t make you less desirable. They will have algorithms that can put together what you’d still most likely want to buy just from those pics. The best way is to generate no data. Keep it blank, post nothing, connect as little as possible, use a VPN, stuff like that.
Also posting those pics on your Facebook isn’t a great idea if you’re using it for charity and work purposes lol
Where I wrote of MCU was Wonder Woman. I liked the movie and acting, but the story was so dumb. I called out the antagonist from the first time I saw him. The story was the same as all the MCU movies, I realized, after it:
Here’s this unstoppable bad guy, here’s the main characters getting their ass beat by the bad guy, here’s defeatist attitudes that they can never beat the bad guy, main protagonist suddenly “believes” they can beat the bad guy, beats bad guy, and roll credits. Splash of some sort of callback end-credits gush scene, and end.
Ahh yes. The one where the villain weaponized a glaring plot-hole and everyone was doomed until they figured out that they’d already covered this in a previous movie.
At least the first two Tobey McSpiderman movies were legitimately good, the problem was some studio exec went “LET’S MAKE NOTHING BUT SUPERHERO MOVIES FOR THE NEXT TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!” Sometime after the second one, I lost track of how many The Incredible Hulk movies they made, and then stopped paying attention. A very few have risen to the top since, including The Dark Knight and Deadpool, both legitimately good movies.
The last movie I saw at the theatre was Inglourious Basterds. Over the years, I’ve looked at what’s playing with dates and such, and…there’s nothing I want to see.
The Mario movie was incredibly mediocre, despite its high production value. I’m talking MCU-levels of truckloads of money spent with shockingly little to show for it.
I can’t speak to its reception with film critics, but the word of mouth opinions I heard were very positive. It was also nominated for a number of Oscars.
I made it through 5 minutes before I stopped and deleted it. Most of the time I just close the player and plan on coming back to it when my mood is different, but with Mario I felt this visceral sensation of "nope."
I don't follow advertising hype for anything because I generally despise advertising of all types, so I had no expectations for this movie. The only information I had about it beforehand was that Chris Pratt would be the voice of Mario instead of the longtime English voice actor.
One day not long ago, it was a trending torrent so I picked it up.
I guess I am very far from the target audience. Immediately the tone, pace of the editing, and the dialogue did not sit right with me. It felt like a worse version of Detective Pikachu, which I thought was average at best.
Funny you mention the MCU because the audience for those movies is practically the same. For everything I’ve read and seen it basically sounds like a animated MCU movie
When I first read this comment, I thought you were talking about Super Mario Bros (1993) and was about to throw hands. Because that movie is actually good, if deeply flawed. Its flaws make for a more entertaining movie altogether.
If you like the YouTube channel “Some More News”, you should check out their “movie”. Yes, they made a movie and yes, it’s out there at times, but the way it ties real world to the 1990s Mario Bros movie is so fragmented that when they finally connect all the dots, it’s a mind blow!
I’m still mad it basically kicked the DnD movie out of theaters. If it wasn’t for all the hype for Mario, I think the DnD movie would have done a lot better, but that’s partly their fault for choosing a terrible time to release a movie - a week or two before the biggest video game franchise of all time releases their movie.
The story feels rushed and incoherent. Characters without character and chemistry. It’s a film in which every aspect of its production was solely determined by the amount of money that was put into it. If Jack Black can’t save a mediocre film…
Holy crap pets. Both of my dogs passed, but it was about $1,000/yr each for normal stuff, when you add it all up. Food, vet, boarding, toys, beds, etc. you aren’t kidding.
I also know that people will skip better food and the vet, meaning they end up with unhealthy pets too.
All of the foods suck, just use your dog as a food disposal for healthy stuff that is starting to get sketchy. There stomach can handle it, and honestly my dog will pull it out of the trash or compost bin completely wrotten and eat it anyway.
Also don’t buy a dog if you live in an apartment, or don’t have land and refuse to walk, it’s just mean. They are meant to expend a crazy amount of energy, and the blame only falls at your own shoes when they inevitably destroy your apartment or have health issues.
Electric heaters may actually cost more in electric bills than you would spend on heating. It depends on the type of heating and the size of your space, but something like natural gas might cost less to keep the whole house at 65 degrees, rather than trying to warm a single room from 45 degrees with a space heater.
This gets complicated. The small heater is almost certain to be resistive electric heat. Your central heat could be anything. In my area, the gas furnace is usually cheaper to run for the entire house than it is for a space heater in a single room.
OTOH, if you have a resistive electric furnace, your advice is spot on
I don’t think I’ve used any cleaner product since the Windows XP days. I don’t view it as necessary anymore.
One of the other programs to see file size on disk recommended on this thread should be enough.
I would highly recommend O&O ShutUp10++ to reduce built in spying in Windows. It’s good at explaining what each option you’re doing is. The only thing I would caution on is changing the Edge browser policies with O&O. That will lock it down into enterprise mode and you won’t be able to change certain settings through the UI anymore.
I’m struggling to think of any situation in which invisibility would benefit me personally. Teleportation would save me over an hour a day of driving to/from work alone, plus hours at work itself, fuel & vehicle maintenance costs just about disappear, world travel becomes something possible to do any time of any day on a whim, you could do anything.
Its not working on a project “for me” or “for nothing” its for the lemmy/fediverse community as a whole. Like every other lemmy open source extension, most clients, lemmy itself.
It’s been a while since I read about it but IIRC, rescuers arrived just days later and were able to follow their tracks down the mountain to where some of the bodies were eventually found. An avalanche powerful enough to kill the whole party surely would have wiped all this away even if some of it had melted away in the preceding couple of days.
