GoRuck backpacks. I bought mine a decade ago and it still has impeccable quality.

Unfortunately they’ve outsourced to Vietnam. I can attest I have several USA made go ruck packs … and they do still sell a few like that. But they’ve mostly outsourced; YMMV.

Filco Majestouch keyboard. I’ve been programming on mine for over 5 years.

It probably won’t outlast my IBM Model M, but it does feel lighter on the fingers.

zod000,

It might actually outlast your Model M. The membranes on the Model M seems to be the thing that has died for me (after like 20+ years mind you). I frequently still use my Leopold from 2009 and its rock solid.

Is that an IBM Model M, or a Lexmark Model M? Earlier Model Ms were entirely mechanical, later ones made by Lexmark used the buckling-spring-over-membrane design.

And in the case of a membrane Model M, I wonder if you can get a replacement from…whatever that company is that bought the molds and still makes them to this day.

voltaa,

Unicomp is the company you are thinking of I believe and I am pretty sure they will.

Yep that’s them! Couldn’t think of the name.

pHr34kY,

The internal board of my model M survived the dishwasher. In fact, it fixed it. They’re tough.

I have an OG early 90s model with a birth certificate on the back.

None of the traditiona streaming video ones. I have F1 TV and Spotify. Streaming video and movies are fun, but don’t really match with how my brain works.

It’s way easier to maintain focus on a a video game for me, since it allows me to determine the pace more and it provides constant interaction. If things go to slow, my brain tends to jump focus to the next most interesting thing and get distracted.

An issue I also have with story driven content is that I start feeling the emotions of the characters extremely hard. If something stressful or sad happens then I’ll get very tense, stressed, or sad, which I don’t enjoy too much. So instead of a relaxing activity it becomes a very stressful one for a lot of series.

If I really want to see something I tend to take a 1 month subscription and binge it all in that month.

I think they were made on contract, but I got a pair of hiking/work boots almost 35 years ago and aside from the slightest rash on the toe-caps they look perfect. If I knew the brand I’d buy shoes and belts all day.

It’s American Eagle for me. Their pants have lasted me for longer than any other brand that I’ve worn regularly. Also, I don’t have to adjust them because they just fit.

masterspace,

American eagle jeans are under rated. Their stretch jeans have last me for years with the only issues being some wallet / cellphone lines, and an occasional hole in the pocket that needs patching.

Questionable Content

Nemo, in What do normal people look at on their phones?

I am the wrong person to ask about this, but I read ebooks, play games, go on fora.

My wife cruises Facebook marketplace and other similar sites and buys furniture which she then resells at a profit. But I doubt that’s very common either.

BenVimes, in How Many Streaming Services Do You Have?

Between my wife and me, we have Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Curiosity, DropOut, and Nebula for videos. I also have one paid Twitch subscription. We could probably stand to cancel one or two.

For music, I have Spotify and my wife has YouTube Music. We have different preferences in sorting and recommendations, and at this point either of us migrating to the other’s preferred service would be more work than it’s probably worth.

ShadowCatEXE, in What’s your favorite fantasy universe and why?

The wizarding world. I thoroughly enjoy Harry Potter and anything related to it (the books, movies, Hogwarts Legacy game, etc).

Imagine living in a world where you can enrich your life and the things around you with magic, spells, charms…

Winter Jacket - KlimI bought my jacket with the intent of never having to purchase another one. After speaking with many friends and the sales people at my local motorcycle/snowmobile shop, the consensus was a snowmobile jacket would last.

I chose Klim and have had this jacket since 2016 with no tears or rips. I did have an issue with the zipper but they replaced the entire zipper for free within the last few months.

I will recommend Klim brand jackets for a forever jacket. They are expensive though.

I pay for Hulu and Prime (for the shipping), and get Netflix & Apple TV thru my T-Mobile subscription.

edit: oh, derp. I also have YouTube premium because I paid up for the Google Play Music family plan back in the day, and then it converted to YouTube Music + Premium. Later, I upped my subscription to Google One for the extra storage and phone support and get some okay, ad-free free content on the 'Tubes

I get Max for free with my phone, Hoopla free from the library, and my sister lets me use her Disney+ account. The only streaming service I pay for is PBS Passport.

I pay for Peacock, Netflix, Paramount, and Apple. I get Disney and Hulu free with my phone plan, and I’m sharing someone else’s HBO Max, Brit Box and Prime accounts until they say accounts can’t be shared anymore. None of the ones I pay for cost too much except Netflix, which I would have canceled by now if my mom didn’t watch it so much lol
