ble.sh, for making regular bash a lot more user friendly with a single source.

Steamymoomilk,

added! thanks for the suggestion!

onlinepersona, in What are your opinions of Guix?

I tried it out one single time and it failed to install or update or something. Had to then find all the places it had inserted itself into in my system. Later I found out it’s based on some LISP variant. Even later I found out you can’t install firefox with it because of gnu or something?
That all combined dissuaded me from touching it again.

nix has terrible documentation, but it’s kinda worked for me, so I’m sticking with it.

Zoxide, lets you quickly jump to places in your filesystem. E.g. z pic will put you in ~/Pictures.

Steamymoomilk,

added and looks pretty helpful thanks!

LainOfTheWired, in [Resolved] Why does the font on Lemmy.world look like an eyesore?
@LainOfTheWired@lemy.lol avatar

You could start with using dark reader

otter,

I think Lemmy has themes too

I try to use the built in darkmode because dark reader got sluggish on some sites. Then I whitelist it on the sites that I need to

Jumuta,

i hated dark reader because it only works like 70% of the time, and often it doesn’t even look that good.

sxhkd/swhkd, both support creating these natively and the second one works not just on Wayland, but also X11 and the TTY.

Recently found out about ouch. Found it really useful for decompressing files in the terminal as I can’t seem to remember all the flags for tar, gzip, zip, rar and all the rest one may encounter which all seem to use different syntax.

neidu2, in Is anyone using awk?

Every day. piping srdout to a combination of awk and sed makes shell operations a lot easier. A lot of my earlier perl hacks have now been replaced by a combination of awk, sed, and xargs

lvl, in need help fixing a hardware problem using linux

I have had an identical problem a few years back, with a Samsung 2 in 1 that worked perfectly on AC, but had exact issues on battery.

It was the “power saving” capability of the GPU that triggered it on battery. So simply disabling this is the integrated Intel GPU control panel (in Windows) fixed the problem. Laptop is still running now and works with my sister in law.

dingdongitsabear,

thanks for chiming in. yeah, some surface models are prone to have these issues as well, I remember trying that in windows but with no results. in linux, the i915 driver doesn’t have that option any more, or I suck at reading comprehension… anyhow, not sure that’s the same issue, as my device has these spells also when on AC power but with battery installed. the only times it’s functioning properly is when it’s on AC and with battery removed. but this looks like a promising lead to research further.

chitak166, (edited ) in Experience with KDE on Fedora?

I’d recommend Mint or Manjaro for family computers.

Probably Mint, just because Pamac still has issues.

Fedora is a bad choice because you’re stuck in the dnf ecosystem with no real benefit.

I’m a firm believer that the only value in Fedora is for Red Hat. Their shills are the ones who promote it over more practical options.

In case you really want/need some more modern drivers/software,… Nobara is also recommendable stable.
