Yes, glasses give headaches at the beginning (if they correct a lot, not if they slightly adjust the owners vision). It’s how it is, you need to suffer a bit until you get used to them. Then, you get headaches when you don’t wear them.
Backing this up. My glasses are for really bad astigmatism. When I first got the glasses, they made my head hurt über bad and I felt nauseous. Now, my head hurts when I don’t wear them.
I wear glasses constantly as my eyes are terrible. You might fishbowl a little when they are new but pain is not right and the number one sign your prescription is wrong.
I got a headache when I first started wearing glasses. Then it went away. There wasn’t anything wrong with the prescription. It was just my eyes adjusting to suddenly being able to see in HD for the first time in years.
Technically, I don’t block ads. I block trackers using privacy badger. If they were to just show me ads without trying to track me I’d be fine and they’d get some ad revenue. But they always put trackers in there, I see no ads and they get no money.
Just a heads up, privacy badger effectively doesn’t do anything besides take up resources and make you slightly more fingerprintable as compared to simply using ublock. All of its useful behaviors were culled a few years ago, funny enough, due to fingerprinting. Its blocklist is severely out of date.
I was aware that they made that change but I didn’t know it made it worse for tracker blocking. I don’t see ads and I don’t get the external discussions such as discus so it seems to work.
Yeah, I agree. I never really minded ads as I just mentally ignore them so I didn’t use an ad blocker for a very long time after it was common practice. I also disagreed with the principle of ad blockers as sites need to pay their expenses.
But then they abused the data that they collected to change people’s political opinions in a way that went way beyond just your standard political ads and that was it for me.
I know a guy who REALLY needs glasses. Can’t see shit more than 3 inches away without them. You can sneak up on him in broad daylight by walking in the open right toward him, he can’t make out the blob until about 15ft away. Probably legally blind, but I don’t actually know that.
He refuses to wear glasses while driving “because all the lights hurt my eyes”.
So basically at night he keeps it between the white/yellow blurs and avoids the blobs headed toward him, and during the day he tries to avoid the colored blobs while staying on the gray/black smear.
Remember, you share the road with these people daily! Incidentally I’m all for mandatory 5 year retesting for driver licenses and a yearly one after a certain age. No, I don’t think that’s ageist or wrong.
ANECDOTE TIME: My own grandfather drove right up until he was moved into a care home, and he was having seizures and strokes intermittently. The last time I spoke to him before he lost access to his truck, he told me he had to ask for help getting back into the truck because his leg wouldn’t move, AND he nearly took out someone’s mailbox because he took a turn so wide he jumped the sidewalk and went into a yard.
He refuses to wear glasses while driving “because all the lights hurt my eyes”.
If your eyes aren’t used to glasses, guess what? You get a headache. If you wear them long enough, your body gets used to them, and you stop getting headaches.
In germany you get info on your drivers license that says if the persons needs Glasses for driving. When the police stops you and sees no glasses on you then its like driving without a drivers license afaik
It’s the same in the US. They test your vision when you go to get your license, they print the restriction on your license, and you legally cannot drive without them.
I really dunno. They have different numbers that allow for glasses, contacts or both. So even when you transition to contacts you need to update your drivers license.
It always bothers me in a similar way that she always says something like she realy has interesst in the man but her body language says the complete opposite.
I dunno, Nestle owns basically the who’s-who of terrible processed food and snack brands. Avoiding them isn’t just good activism, it’s good for your health, too.
Not only in America. Yes, you can avoid processed food, buying fresh food, but Nestle isn’t only processed food, also water, almost all brands of coffee, sweets, cosmetics, animal food, etc… If you live on a farm with a garden and chickens, with your own well and drink an herbal infusion instead of coffee, washing with your own soap. maybe you can avoid using Nestle products.
Stop exaggerating. I live in the UK and avoid all these brands with minimal impact - drinking fresh coffee ends up being cheaper than instant, there are plenty of supermarket and non-nestle brands of sweets, dog foods, water, soap etc.
You can’t avoid capitalism, but a single company, even as big as Nestlé, is very doable. It just requires a bit of mindfulness when shopping
I drink fresh coffee, never instant, But look at the Coffeebrands in my image i posted before, the most Brands are from Nestle, not only Nescafe, Same with dog/cat food, Purina, Brekkies, etc …all from Nestle, also a lot of white brands from the Supermarkets. It’s not so easy as you say.
Yeah, I did look, most of them I’ve never seen before. Its a big list, but it covers a worldwide range of companies - most of them are specific to only a handful of countries. For dog food I can choose Harrington’s, Pedigree, Butcher’s etc, for sweets there’s Mars, Haribo, Barratt etc - I really get the impression that you’re thinking of the Big 11 companies, which are almost impossible to wholly boycott.
White brands are a different case, but I don’t even bother with off-brands of stuff Nestle makes, so I’m pretty sure I’m safe.
I also get a button along with those to continue in my browser (on mobile). I just tap to continue on Firefox, and it works (at least on any subs that are not NSFW).
Firstly, why are you using Google? Secondly, you must be doing something else wrong because I have never seen that outside of NSFW stuff. The only time I go to reddit is on mobile via the browser when I’m searching for something, and I’m not logged into an account.
That’s great that it doesn’t happen for you. For me, any time I end up on Reddit in a browser on iPhone, it gives the obnoxious “open in app or continue in browser” popup.
I use private mode in safari though, maybe it’s not saving a cookie or something.
Mean while, me: chasing the perfect origin flavor from beans only from specific farms around the world, roasting only to city or city+, takeing notes with each grind mil size and brew time and brew method, constantly chasing such small and slight subtle changes, completely convinced that I’m ever getting closer to the perfect cup.
It’s about 70$ per 2 lbs of un roasted beans. And I don’t want to figure out how invested into equipment.
More recent me: yerba mate… welp time to invest in a nice kalabash and buy every blend under the sun ! And start the chase for the perfect brew !!
I recently got “this content is unverified, please open in our app to continue” from a Google search that lead to a random Reddit thread. Nope not gonna do that. I think I found a workable solution on stack overflow after that
The day old reddit I gone is the day it is officially dead. Reddit is appealing to the insta audience now and it sucks. I’ve talked to so many people who only recently discovered reddit and they have no idea that discussion used to drive the site. It’s a picture browsing site for them. The site is going down the tubes quickly so it can do an IPO I guess.
personal petpeeve of mine, that insta-gen as you describe it, is mentally incapable of making/uploading computer screenshots in computer specific subs (e.g. game specific subs). they upload photos of their monitor that look like ass, angled like they’re tim walker and shaken like they’re driving on cobblestone… almost like we’re back in the 00s or something.
it literally requires more effort to post a worse picture and be removeded at than simply pressing print-screen and ctrl-v on the pc.
“bUt I’m NoT uSiNg ReDdIt On My CoMpUtEr So I’m NoT lOgGeD iN”
yeah, while at that better uninstall it on your phone aswell. nothing of worth comes out of you anyways. smh
I wish this were only a problem with kids. I’m a system integrator and I’m constantly asking for screenshots of HMIs for troubleshooting. It’s about 50/50 with my current client if it’s going to be a jank cell phone picture or an actual screenshot. I think it’s an uneducated portion of the population that is too dumb to give a shit. They always existed but now the barrier to posting a photo is finally low enough that they can barely step over it and us early PC users are annoyed by them.
Not only did discussion used to drive that site, but thriving niche communities. I hired a young-ish (~25) webdev recently and he asked where I heard about a certain topic. I told him reddit and he was genuinely confused. I sent him links to r/webdev, r/selfhosted, r/sysadmin, r/datahoarder, and a handful of other recommendations. His mind was blown that reddit not only had those communities, but how deep the content was.
My point is, reddit has really leaned into the lowest common denominator audience to chase growth and has completely abandoned its nerd roots (most evidently by its API policy changes).
