Are democrats critical of Biden’s cognitive ability too or are both sides hypocrites?

ReplicantBatty,

I definitely am but I’ll probably have to vote for him anyway so like fuck me, i guess

I am, but I also think he’s got a stutter, which causes it to be overplayed sometimes.

protist,

When I’ve heard Biden talk off the cuff he seems cognitively just fine, which is the biggest difference. He’s always had that stutter, and a reputation for “gaffes” going back decades. But his “gaffes” are just impolitic comments, which who really gives a fuck about? I like his authenticity

Custoslibera, (edited )

You silly billy.

The point is that neither man is likely to have a cognitive condition that would affect their presidency.

It’s hypocritical because the Republicans constantly attack Biden for similar gaffes despite the fact Biden is pretty much just like Trump when it comes to mental acuity.

Do I think trump has completely lost his marbles because of one gaffe? No.

In the same way Biden is just as coherent.

Both men being relatively equal on this the distinguishing factor then turns to the fact that one has said they will be a literal dictator and the other likes ice cream and capitalism.

hexortor, in The comments speak for themselves
  1. modern websites are a pain to navigate with popups, paywall, ads, heavy tracking that slows down navigation, autoplaying video ads etc
  2. modern journalism = let’s just report whatever the person or company says without fact checking, contextualizing or taking a stance. I believe this is done because it takes less effort and because it makes sure that the news org doesn’t anger any of the persons/organizations it has tides with (for ads or direct funding)

The comments solve both problems, as lemmy is ad- and tracking-free and the people in the comments are mostly real people usually without any vested interests in the things they’re discussing.

So OBVIOUSLY I only read the comments. I’ll get the content of the article indirectly as it’s being discussed.

lightnsfw,

Also you can use the comments to determine if the article is even worth reading so you don’t accidentally give a click to some hack journalism.

silverdraco,

This is absolutely true. I get more information and understanding from the discussion in the comments than I do the article. Using other platforms I want to read what people are discussing about the article than the article itself. Brings more depth to the conversation and the article.

Libs need to understand that calling out the hypocrisies of Trump supporters does fuck-all. Not only do they do not care, they get off on triggering the libs in this way. They’re not the least bit interested in facts or consistency; they’re interested in getting their guy in office.

gearheart, (edited )

davel, (edited )
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

Trump’s real power base has never been the white working class “basket of deplorables”:

The Nation, 2017: Trumpism: It’s Coming From the Suburbs

But scapegoating poor whites keeps the conversation away from fascism’s real base: the petite bourgeoisie. This is a piece of jargon used mostly by Marxists to denote small-property owners, whose nearest equivalents these days may be the “upper middle class” or “small-business owners.” FiveThirtyEight reported last May that “the median household income of a Trump voter so far in the primaries is about $72,000,” or roughly 130 percent of the national median. Trump’s real base, the actual backbone of fascism, isn’t poor and working-class voters, but middle-class and affluent whites. Often self-employed, possessed of a retirement account and a home as a nest egg, this is the stratum taken in by Horatio Alger stories. They can envision playing the market well enough to become the next Trump. They haven’t won “big-league,” but they’ve won enough to be invested in the hierarchy they aspire to climb. If only America were made great again, they could become the haute bourgeoisie—the storied “1 percent.”

SnotFlickerman, (edited )
@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

the median household income of a Trump voter so far in the primaries is about $72,000

I’m not really sure I buy this meaning they’re really affluent corporate types. I’ve met a lot of Trump supporters who own big properties out in the country, who own big trucks, and who work jobs in trades. Stuff like plumbers and carpenters and mechanics. I mean hell, in my state, the average pay for plumbers is $80,000 a year, and yep, a lot of those people are self-employed. Last I checked the trades is where all the folks who struggled in school go…

So, does this really mean they aren’t who we think they are? All the people I’m referring to were dumb as fuck country fucking bumpkins who needed a swift kick in the ass. All they’ve really gotten “invested” is a house on a big valuable piece of land, a little bit of stock on the market (maybe), and a bunch of physical items that add up to them being “wealthy” even though two of the trucks don’t work, the tractor is falling apart, and so is the barn, and so on. On paper, they’re wealthy, in person, they’re still missing some fucking teeth.

Oh yeah, and the obsession with guns… Guns ain’t cheap… These people piss away a lot of money on useless stuff.

davel,
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

You just described the exact same people the article described, so I don’t know where you’re getting “really affluent corporate types” from.

lugal, in anicent chinese wisdom is sometimes flawed

Is that just a terrible translation or a metaphor non Chinese people don’t get or something in between?

Malgas,

The image is pretty blurry, but I’m seeing:

窗户己限位请勿高空抛物

Which Google translate renders as “The windows are limited. Please do not throw objects at high altitudes.” Which still seems kind of mangled, but at least resembles something potentially reasonable.

Maybe someone who actually speaks the language will show up to help us out.

TwinTusks,
@TwinTusks@bitforged.space avatar

窗户己限位

has no meaning, “限位” is not to be used like this.

Malgas,

So is that a transcription error on my part, or is the original image nonsense?

TwinTusks, (edited )
@TwinTusks@bitforged.space avatar

Actually, I am wrong, there is actually a thing call 窗户限位, they put a device (called 限位器, “limiting device”) on the window to limit how far it opens. So that is what they meant by “the window is limited”.

lugal,

Leads me to my next question: do you have any clue how the wrong translation came into existence?

Wow, that must mean that we’re in captivity! /s

Even if animals in captivity did live longer (which @WallEx contradicts), wouldn’t it make more sense to think it’s because of better treatment and healthcare?

testfactor,

To be fair, he’s not contradicting the intended statement. “Animals in captivity” usually refers to zoos/aquariums/etc in this context.

They are just pointing out that animals raised for food are also “animals in captivity,” and have dramatically reduced lifespans.

cuerdo,

Farm animals are not animals in captivity.

Captivity implies being captured and being held captured.

It is about wild animals that do live longer in a control environment albeit loosing their freedom.

Animal farming is a different animal

testfactor,

My response was in reference to the comment the guy above linked to. The one by WallEx.

That post was claiming animals didn’t live longer in captivity, but was taking animals raised for meat into account.

haui_lemmy,

When I was underprivileged, uneducated youth, I got sucked into football hooligan/neo-nazi circles and actually met some „high ranking nationalist party members“. Two brothers, same haircut as this dude, 300 pounds, 30 yrs old and still living with their mommy in a smoke filled, dirty apartment with a giant swastika flag in the living room.

Thats what got me out of fascist circles. I was so shocked that people looked up to these morons.

This actually led to my belief that fascists actually mostly are uneducated and unloved people who get exploited by psychopaths. Those would one would need to take out (by legal means, naturally).
