If you do this, the system will bug out and an explosion will happen underground which makes worms and other animals blast out.

gizmonicus, in Which pill do you choose?

Red pill. You can make money, but you can’t make time.

PsychedSy,

I’m putting my allowance into msft and amazon.

Jeremyward,

See also dogecoin and bitcoin

Pantherina,

Bitcoin, damn… my dad hat a friend mining “a few” on his balcony. He is probably rich right now

PsychedSy,

I bought some bitcoin at 70, but it was for grey market narcotics. The fraction of a dollar left turned into 20 twice lol

BunEnjoyer,

That depends on if you want time

GoodEye8,

Red pill is too vague. Do you go back in time to when you were 6? If so then red pill is good because you could just achieve all you’ve already achieved faster and you have more time for other stuff. Do you just turn into a 6 year old? No thanks, not about to restart on hard mode.

Also is that time really that valuable if you’re going to spend a significant part of it threading the same ground?

That why I’d take the blue pill, clearer outcome and with 10 mil I could easily improve the quality of my time. For instance by completely ditching work I have much more time to see my children grow up.

psud,

Clear outcome? If red is “become undocumented child in 2023” blue can’t be simple.

Blue would have you watching over your shoulder for who the money was taken from, or the money would be taken off you as evidence of crime, since no one has millions from nowhere, and it’ll be very hard to hide

Stroke without rhythm, and you won't attract the worms.

Well they definitely get bigger when the rhythm is right. Do it enough and they can be your weapon of choice.

Cowbee, in Which pill do you choose?

Blue. No mistake reversion or bitcoin investing would outweigh possibly never meeting my partner again. With Blue, I have everything I could ever want from this life, with red, I may lose everything important to me now.

LaLuzDelSol,

Reminds me of the plot to Shrek 4, where he has to find Fiona and get her to fall in love all over again.

cactusupyourbutt,

what if you didnt restart life in the current time but went back in time when you were 6?

Cowbee,

Still a massive chance I would never meet my partner.

fatboy93,

For $10M, I might just retire, buy a house and raise my kid.

Sure beats having to struggle at work.

Cowbee,

Absolutely. Anyone who would go back in time purely to make more money is a fool if they think having more than 10 million dollars would make a tangible difference on their quality of life. Who cares if you make a billion off of bitcoin? For 10 mil you can be extremely comfortable and don’t have to relive some of the most awkward years of your life. Only way it would be different is if your choices got someone killed or something.

psud, (edited )

More than 10M gives you the ability to change popular opinions, spur good industries, kill bad business

Enough more lets you hire people who can help spend the money effectively

ChewTiger,

That’s a brilliant way to answer.

Sekrayray,

That was my thought too. Too risky.

JackbyDev,

So true. My wife and I are high school sweet hearts but also both very different people now. The boy she fell in love with initially I couldn’t properly emulate. We were deep into Christianity and even met at church. We’ve since both lost our faith. I wouldn’t be able to pretend without her seeing through my bullshit.

Also knowing about

  • 9/11 (investing in detector manifacturers, fucking shampoo in small bottles)
  • covid (investing in masks, vaccines, tests and test centers)
  • all the wars: weapon industry in Germany
  • Apple, Google, Amazon, …

You could just buy stock and get rich without doing anything. If you made such a company, damn.

I mean investing in that post 9/11 stuff would make you rich, then you lend money to those Covid people and tadaa, Capitalism

Also maybe you could change something in the world, worth more than money.

ChildOfTama, in Cringe

I think step one is universal healthcare. For many reasons that we all are familiar with by now. (being tied to a job that has income limitations because you need the healthcare(ish) it provides, becoming bankrupted by healthcare costs, getting kicked out of your housing due to medical costs)

The revolutionary silver bullet to begin increasing housing availability is to eliminate the ability to depreciate assets via the tax code if they are single family detached homes. Many of these rentals are already fully depreciated and will remain rentals. But recently purchased (within 10 yrs.) rentals will likely be sold and importantly they will not be purchased by ‘investors’. That shift will provide a flood of homes into the market which will apply downward pressure on prices. More people being able to afford to purchase those homes will free up rental availability, thus applying downward pressure on rental affordability.

Now that only addresses single family homes; there remains multifamily housing to be addressed which will be more complex. A robust government regulatory agency for housing is not something we currently have in the usa, obviously. (see picture) Reforms of those regulatory bodies are needed whereby penalties they assess would have actual teeth. I imagine penalties that remove ownership. I also imagine the countless tax incentives used in constructing and rehabilitating these structures being negotiated quite differently, to include public ownership.

Just a few thoughts here; I haven’t all the answers. I’m curious when the last housing project was built in the usa.

And this is why I don’t contribute. Or at least I’ll ask a question about whether or not something would be a desired feature and if I don’t get a clear yes or no by someone who can actually approve a PR, I. ain’t. coding. shit.

nightm4re,

You’re framing this as if it were something unusual. Unsolicited PRs are a no-go in my opinion. It’s just basic communication and collaboration to align with the maintainers whether a change is actually required or not.

JDubbleu,

Fair enough, but as someone who has worked closely with the Decky Loader maintainers and contributed my own stand alone plugin I get it. We basically all have day jobs as devs and it can be mentally taxing to do more PRs at home. Not to mention sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day, and I don’t even have kids.

Maintainers are ultimately volunteers doing work with hundreds of dollars an hour for free. I’ve had some PRs take 20+ days to be looked at, it’s just how it goes.

LaLuzDelSol, in Which pill do you choose?

I think, if you went back in time and started, for example, trying to get rich playing the stock market, you would be surprised by how much things change with your interference. Like, Bitcoin still goes up, but peaks at a different price. The same team wins the super bowl but by a different score. The longer things go on the weirder it would get.
