Fanbases and fandoms are poison, thanks to social media. You know exactly what I mean.

When I was in the Navy, I slept like a rock. The constant sound of the air conditioning and the subtle sound of the engines…Now imagine the constant humming and rumble of a starship in the Trek universe. Pure heaven!

beccaboben,

Background-sleep-noise people unite! I have a sound app that has tons of options, like boiling mud is a choice, but no star trek warp core! What a missed opportunity, I wonder if I would prefer it to the"red noise" option I use 🤔

Fandom is like a coin. A coin that has a shiny surface on one side and a dirty, rusty, smelly layer on the other. Some fans can have the passion and diligence to elevate the media while being respectful, while a lot of fans can be just down right hateful because it’s easier to do so while contributing to nothing

fckreddit,

For example, Gintama anime subreddit. It is such a pleasant corner of reddit. Everyone just caring about the show and characters and jokes, that’s all. I have rarely seen a hateful comment or post.

cone_zombie,

Is it still airing? I watched it about 15 years ago, you just reminded me of something long forgotten

Syrc,

Iirc it finished 2/3 years ago

fckreddit,

It is done. The finale was a movie. And holy shit, it was amazing. It’s definitely worth watching again in my opinion.

Oh man you won’t believe this. But just because it’s animated doesn’t make it for kids. Did the trends of South Park / Aqua Teen Hunger Force / family guy / Futurama / Boondocks not convey that?

You’re really limiting yourself with that belief. Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell, cowboy bebop, are older but great. Berserk is suuuper messed up and bloody. Attack on titan takes an adult level of patience to understand what’s going on.

Did you know that your tongue never rests normally in your mouth?

    Jerkface,

Yes it does. I’ve created the optimal amount of suction between my tongue and the roof of my mouth that it hangs from it comfortably, like I imagine a bat would lay in a hammock.

I have a motorcycle. It’s a Harley-Davidson. Immediately, everyone is picturing a large and unpleasant looking bearded man riding a huge, noisy, vibrating, chrome bedazzled air cooled motorcycle without a helmet from one bar to the next.

My harley makes about as much noise as a Toyota Camry. I wear full protective gear when riding it, including a bright and attention-getting helmet. It doesn’t get ridden to bars, because drinking interferes with my motorcycle addiction.

The large and unpleasant looking bearded man part is accurate, though.

    RagingRobot,

I bet you’re at least a little bit pleasant to some people lol

    CADmonkey,

My other half seems to think so.

    Saltblue,

I never understood the " I’m so badass I’m going to ride without the only thing that can prevent my skull from cracking like an egg" I guess live fast die young, but in the event you don’t die the only way we will know where your mouth is, it will be following the feeding tube.

    Anyways safe rides dude.

    Plopp,

I mean, some dudes won’t use environmentally friendly grocery bags because they’re afraid to appear “gay”. Some men’s masculinity is oh so fragile. Like a human skull in a motorcycle accident perhaps.

    CADmonkey,

Guys, is it gay to avoid filling your trash can with a bunch of plastic bags?

    jpreston2005,

so gay. can confirm, am half gay. reusable grocery bags is the new “wear white aasics to a planet fitness”

    CADmonkey,

It has been my long-standing belief that a motorcycle helmet can prevent an accident. I’ve had too many things hit my visor while riding. Imagine taking a june bug in the eye with nothing but a set of oakleys for protection.

    Saltblue,

The bug in the eye is a classic, I just wanted to feel the air on my face.

    MedicPigBabySaver,

For the record, N.E. Patriots paid for their stadium and continue to pay all upgrade costs. They just finished an expensive upgrade.

There also is a train stop on the property. Even though it is a commuter line, it’s not busy. The hours kinda suck. But, better than nothing.

    JJROKCZ,

That’s one out of like 50 teams though. Assholes like Stan Kroenke are far more common, demanding cities spend billions on his teams or he just moves them like he did with the rams

How about this: The government pays to create public transit and then loans it to a private company to run for 50 years?

They're doing it with highways, after all.

My city painted lines in the road, and people still bitch about it 3 years later, the lines are almost gone from fading and chipping, and cycling is still dangerous due to some traffic specifically targeting them for harrasment.

    CowsLookLikeMaps,

Paint is not a substitute for infrastructure.

    sukhmel,

Yeah, there’s an especially shitty part of a city where used to live, that part is always mostly traffic jams and the bike lanes painted on the road side are just used as a parking lot for expensive cars 🤦‍♂️

    robotopera,

People are freaking out about that in my city while the $500 million dollar highway interchange right next to it gets no attention.

    uphillbothways, in Funds
    @uphillbothways@kbin.social avatar

And, they act like stadiums are going to"drive economic" activity instead of creating dead zones in cities.
You know what would guarantee increased economic activity?
People being able to easily get to jobs and shops.

    IWantToFuckSpez,

Stadiums drive economic activity into city government officials pockets.

    uphillbothways, (edited )
    @uphillbothways@kbin.social avatar

Even then, only in a shortsighted, politically deceptive manner. Taxation driven by sales in a thriving hub with free transit also pads the budget. But, taxes are unpopular and people like sports teams and arena shows and overpriced shitty beverages. They give the bigger dopamine hit.

    TheBat,
    @TheBat@lemmy.world avatar

Is that an economic activity in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

    MedicPigBabySaver,

Patriot Place @ Gillette Stadium is definitely not a “dead zone”.

    BigDiction, in Funds

What city size can justify a $1 billion stadium and pull off comprehensive public transit for $150M?

    Viking_Hippie,

What city size can justify a $1 billion stadium

Could have just stopped there. The answer is none regardless of the rest.

    sukhmel,

According to Wikipedia there are at least 16 cities that felt this price to be justified, 10 of which are in the US. >!Seems like the smallest population is in Inglewood, it’s almost same as stadium capacity when it’s expanded.!<
