EnderMB, in I never learn my lesson

Oh man, I really like One Punch Man, and I’ve always been a fan of the whole “poking fun at anime tropes thing”, but if you spend 30 mins on the subreddit for that subject you find a lot of people that don’t really see that the “child that’s actually much older than they look” thing isn’t a justifiable excuse for filling your sub with subjective images of a child.

At a certain point, it basically became trolling to raise that these people needed their hard drives checked by law enforcement professionals, and less to do with the thing that I actually enjoyed.

Traister101,

Child that’s older than they look? Tatsumaki? Not exactly a child she’s just short…

vivadanang, in Calm down there, edgelord

it’s that voice in the back that’s always there, but waits for a quiet moment to suggest crazy shit. I liken it to very very mild, controlled tourette’s - random impulses that shouldn’t even raise to the level of conscious thought but for whatever reason slip through the ‘noise’ filter.

Asafum,

It definitely is crazy shit, not always self harm. For whatever reason I always get it when I see nice cars, my brain immediately goes to “kick the headlights!” and then I cringe when I imagine it actually happening, it’s so odd because the desire pops up but my reaction to it is disgust or “pain” like I definitely don’t want to do it.

Brains are weird lol

meliaesc, (edited )

Humans are so adaptable because we constantly test boundaries, especially subconsciously. Intrusive thoughts are just testing risk management.

vivadanang,

well put

sibannac,

The noise filter is just a forest that has grown since childhood. That “voice” is, imo, curiosity.

Where I am, to unlock a cart, you have to insert a coin, and afterwards, to get the coin back, you have to lock the cart to another cart (that’s hopefully part of the pile). It mostly works.

frezik,

Aldi’s (used to?) do it in the US, but it’s the exception.

Kusimulkku,

I’ve seen a lot of places here drop this system. I have no idea why. Then again, you could also just go to the info and get a plastic thing to unlock them.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

They stop doing it often because it gets homeless people coming to the store specifically to return carts that people didn’t return so they can collect the refund.

Kusimulkku,

I really don’t think it’s the reason where I live. People just return the carts in general and we don’t really have homeless people as a visible issue

arken,

I would hope someone realized it accomplishes nothing except being a mild annoyance for customers. Most people return the carts anyway and it doesn’t really stop anyone from stealing them if they really want them (or rather buying them for ~1 euro).

Kusimulkku,

I’m not so sure. It’s a really small push but people from places where it exists only in some places and where in others they don’t return the carts it seems to be working. Here they are returned, but we are so used to the coin system that it might be leftover from that. Anecdotally I’ve noticed people leaving them wherever more if there’s no coin system. But also my area has a lot of first generation and very recent immigrants so they might’ve never been with the system to begin with. Or it’s a cultural thing. Dunno. Might be all the reasons.

arken,

Based on your username, I’m going to make the wild assumption that you live in Finland. I’m old enough to remember when we didn’t have this system in Sweden, and stray shopping carts was never a problem back then. Anectotal and my memory may be a regional thing, sure, but where I live, most people would just put the carts where they belong because it would break the societal norm if they didn’t. And my point is just that this system probably costs more than it pays off for the stores that uses it.

limelight79,

I do think there’s regional variation. In general, we don’t have this system in the US, except for a few grocery stores that are US divisions of European companies. I’ve lived in a few different areas in the country, and in some areas it seems like very few people return their carts and just leave them wherever, while in other areas, people are more conscientious about it. I rarely see a stray cart in the grocery store lots where I live now, for example, but when I lived for a few months in another city, it seemed like everyone just left the cars where they wanted.

I think there’s kind of a peer pressure thing going on, too - people start doing one or the other, and everyone else follows. “He didn’t return, why should I?” vs “Oh, she returned her cart, I should, too.”

Kusimulkku,

Sorta “broken window theory” for shopping carts heh. Unreturned carts cause lawlessness that makes it seem more okay to leave the cart.

arken,

“Oh no, we accidentally provided an opportunity for homeless people to make some money! This must be stopped IMMEDIATELY.”

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

It’s probably even worse:

“Ew these dirty bums are scaring away customers and I might lose money. This must be stopped IMMEDIATELY!”

CrowAirbrush,

They stopped doing this at a lot of places, but after years of having this coin system it seems people are decently behaved.

But i’m certain it’s a matter of time until they realize they can just stop giving a shit.

bizzle,
@bizzle@lemmy.world avatar

They do this at one particular store here. They also pay really well, have incredible prices, and let their cashiers sit in chairs while they check groceries. I like that store.

TheCrawlingKingSnake,

Aldi?

Yep!

kamen,

That’s how it should be.

What a dumb fucking meme. When u border Russia u have no choice but to be in good working relations with them.
Cuz u get pretty much oil and gas way below market rate and Belarus economy is tied to Russian market pretty much 50% percents. With that high of a dependency you dont wanna fuck with your neighbor.
Now do the meme with NATO countries why dont u

Do you live in orbanistan (hungary) here we have 2 big stadiums 200m away from each other, and having 10000 person stadiuma in a village where 1800 people lives…

frezik,

Green Bay has a stadium of 81k for a city of 107k. That’s a special case, though.

ultra,

At least Budapest has good public transport (from what I’ve seen in like 5 days)

disconnectikacio,

No it isn’t. Prague have. We dont even have a railway (nor normal railway, nor underground) to the airport, only bus 🤣 Outside of the downtown youre mostly fked with the public transport, or at least takes hours to travel.

ultra,

At least your busses don’t have the door to the electric panel open and dangling, like in Bucharest…

The Metal Gear Solid fanbase is probably the one of the few respectful and wholesome gaming fanbase I have seen. While most male gamers are drooling and oogling their eyes on any sexualised female characters, MGS fans question and reject the scantily clad female character in Metal Gear Solid V and always meme about this woman being fully clothed.

Keep classy MGS fans!

No? We love Quiet.

DragonTypeWyvern,

The community does seem relatively free of cope that she’s anything but fan service powered by bullshit.

yamanii,
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

Ah yeah, I don’t think the community ever bought that one, since (for context for those that don’t know MGS) this was after MGS3 that had The End, an old man that also breathed through his skin, and he was clothed.

I’m still a fan of Kingdom Hearts because of this.

limelight79, in I never learn my lesson

Oh yeah. I did not hang out in Star Trek groups for many years despite being a fan - I didn’t near to hear a million times why Enterprise sucked or Discovery sucks or whatever. I enjoyed both and don’t need to listen to someone screeching about continuity errors or whatever in a fictional TV show.

And they can’t help themselves, more than once I’ve made a comment like this only to have someone reply, “Well, Discovery sucks because blah blah blah!”, and it’s like, “THANKS FOR DEMONSTRATING THE POINT I WAS MAKING. YOU’RE THE PROBLEM. YOU.”

No one hates Star Trek more than Star Trek fans.

I joined a group on facebook that is called “Wholesomeposting” and that kind of shit is not allowed. It’s much nicer that way. The noise level on Lemmy hasn’t been too bad, fortunately…so far.

Linssiili, in This happens every night

If I cannot fall asleep in 30 minutes or so, I “give up” and go lay on sofa and watch something low intesity from youtube (restoration channels are great for this. This removes most pressure to fall asleep, which often is enough to make it possible to fall asleep quicklyish. And if not, at least watching videos is more interesting that lying in dark room.

Note that you should either wear blue-light blocking glasses (not those barely tinted “computer glasses”, but those that are meant for blocking lasers), or use some software solution, in order to not disturb melatonin production. It’s a good idea to start doing this at least an hour before going to bed in order to allow melatonin to build-up.

This is a benefit of having kids. You can tell them to go put the cart away for you.

lunarul,

Depends on their age. They were the reason I didn’t take the cart back when they were very little. I didn’t want to leave them in the car and go to the other side of the parking lot.

Buddahriffic,

I choose my parking spot knowing I’ll have a cart to return. Though around here, places with cart corals have a bunch throughout the parking lot.

lunarul, (edited )

I choose the one that’s available

Edit: what I mean is you don’t always get a choice of parking spot. Of course I took my cart back if it was within reach. But in the cases it required going too far from the car when I had babies inside, I didn’t.

+1 for creating your own stall out of an abandoned trolly, even if it goes across the entrance or a disability parking spot

Clbull, (edited ) in I never learn my lesson

This rings especially true for Rick and Morty, and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Both are good shows ruined by obnoxious fandoms

Buddahriffic,

I wouldn’t say either are ruined. They just attract some fucked up people. I don’t think any media should be judged based on what kind of person obsesses with it and how they express that obsession.

With those two, you can even laugh knowing the people who make/made those shows don’t think highly of those fans.

I got that sense from the new Star Wars trilogy, too, especially ep 7 where Kylo is an obsessive Darth Vader fan who wore a helmet for no reason and wasn’t nearly as effective as his hero was (he loses a lightsaber duel to someone who hadn’t ever used a lightsaber before and his most destructive action in that movie is throwing a temper tantrum and destroying one of his own rooms).

lemmylem,

Why are grown adults watching My Little Pony?

ArmokGoB,

I never really got the hype, but I knew a lot of people in the early/mid 2010s that were into it.
