Welcome to the future. Nothing works now! :D

rosymind,

This is not the future I envisioned as a kid

balderdash9, in Split PNG Soup

how did they get shadows on the transparent background??

objectionist, in Split PNG Soup
@objectionist@lemmy.world avatar

should’ve been black and purple for ultimate class

ChillDude69, (edited )

I started to say the same exact thing, but then I realized this is intended to be a clear broth. It has alpha blending. Give it some credit for that much being functional.

objectionist,
@objectionist@lemmy.world avatar

okay that’s a fair point

but what if it’s quite thick?

ChillDude69, (edited )

In that case, just turn off some of the layers.

EDIT: wait, I have to take this one back. The title said PNG, and that format doesn’t preserve layers. The thickness of the broth is fully rasterized in.

My daughter was watching - I guess it was the current Mickey Mouse (?) - cartoons on Disney+ a couple nights back. These include Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc.

Only none of them look like the standard toons anymore but look like Disney had inbred sex with Ren and Stempy.

Even the humor and art is similar to that same style drawn by Kricfalusi where the characters all seem to be borderline psychotic and all the humor is based on shock value.

rckclmbr, (edited )

I actually like the new mickey tbh. I would describe it as steamboat mickey mixed with teen titans.

That we have the technology to make a paper towel dispenser that works well, and that we don’t do that very much because it’s cheaper to make one that works poorly, are not incompatible.

When we get mass market flying cars, we’ll get incredibly shitty flying cars that crash all the time, about a week later.

schmidtster,

Or people are putting in too low quality of paper into the machine. The paper has to be strong enough to active the mechanism, they already say two hands since one usually rips before being able to pull it down.

EmoBean,

“We are highly aware that the springs in our machine are too strong, thus causing disfunction of the machine. We will not change our design. We already paid for 300.000 springs, so fuck you, buy better paper.”

schmidtster,

And then the weaker springs don’t have the force required to cut paper that is adequate to dry your hands.

shasta,

They could actually put a blade in it to cut the paper like scissors

schmidtster,

What do you think the springs are activating?

son_named_bort, in Magic school bus. What have they done to you...

The adults used to make the same complaints when I was a kid. Some things never change.

Go ask highschool teachers what they think of the current generation.

LastYearsPumpkin,

Go ask highschool teachers in 1990 what they thought. It’s the same shit every generation.

Theharpyeagle, (edited )

For fun, I went through some old newspapers and really, nothing ever changes. Here’s one from 1959:

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9117682f-06e6-495b-af61-6ece77ba4aef.png

It even has the theme of “most generations think the younger generation is out of hand, but we’re really right this time.” So it has always been.

starman2112,

“But the kids today are so much more violent!”

Nah, you just see kids being normal amounts of violent because they have cameras on them 24/7

MonkderZweite,

So shows get dumber with each generation?

BluesF,

No, you probably don’t remember the crappy ones from when you were a kid, but they were there. Survivorship bias.

ech, in The future is now

Use more of your hand to grab more of the towel, and pull with a steady pressure instead of one hard yank.

2piradians,

The trouble is, the amount of steady pressure to apply varies inversely proportionate to the amount of towel left on the roll. So it’s a guessing game for most people as to how hard to pull.

ech,

That’s true, but the more surface area you’re interacting with, the less that part will matter. Unless it’s super jammed up, it should come out.

No you

Company plays off nostalgia for easy money. This doesn’t actually bother me because on the flip side of this is that the best quality cartoons have been made in past 20 years and it’s not even close.

When I see one of these I immediately go for my pants. I'd rather have a damp thigh for 10 minutes than deal with this thing.

PatFussy,

Thats where the peepee poopoo is stored though 😩

You’re an animal haha just shake the excess water into the sink before you reach for the towel

New movie slaps

TomSelleck,

Incredibly good.

Cruxifux,

The new movie leaned super hard into the “teenage” part of the teenage mutant ninja turtles, and it was an incredibly interesting take.

Maultasche,

The 2012 show was pretty good.

cashews_best_nut,

Gummy Bears. Am I the only person who watched it? It’s on Disney+ atm. Absolute classic show.

At the height of World of Warcraft, a coworker of my mom’s moved from Vancouver to the southern US to live with a guy she had only ever talked to in WoW. Things were not as promised when she got down there. She eventually moved back.

Vespair,

Before WoW I played Ultima Online, and the co-GMs of my UO guild were a couple that had only met online. About 6 months after I started playing, they had an in-game marriage, and then about 6 months later both moved to Las Vegas to buy a house together (I think they’d met in person once by this point). Under a year later, they were married in real life too. Last I heard, they were still together.

If you’re out there Ramirez and Azizza, I hope you’re still happy.

Post-internet life is a weird place.

teejay,

RAMIREZ! Go to burger town and meet someone online and then get married in real life! Ramirez, live happily ever after!

whollyrolypoly,

I see your contextless non-sequitur CoD:MW2 campaign reference in a reply-to-a-reply 15 comments down on this thread. I like to think we all have a tiny Keith David sitting on our shoulder, yelling at us to live our dreams.

teejay,

I feel so seen!

If I made a few people get minor PTSD from that level and hear his voice in their head for a moment, I’m happy.
