Millenium Falcon? That old bucket of bolts that needs constant maintenance even while flying? Hard pass. Now, a shiny new Corellian YT2000, on the other hand…

[Discussion] How do you feel about age verification on Porn sites? (lemmings.world)

Porn sites Pornhub, XVideos, and Stripchat face stricter requirements to verify the ages of their users after being officially designated as “Very Large Online Platforms” (VLOPs) under the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA)....

Let’s be real, teens, especially males, will actively search for porn. Blocklists can be pointless, because even if you can blacklist 160k pornhub clones, they can just join a discord or telegram server instead.

Frankly, I think parents should just make them aware that just like cinema, those videos are for show, not for “trying at home”. Parents should tell them that if they ever expect sex to be like in the porn they consume, they’ll be sorely disappointed. Most of it is faker than reality tv. Oh, it can also make boys get really fucking insecure, especially about their own size.

I despise that kind of lighting because it’s so fucking dim at nighttime. The places that still have physical menus apparently expect everyone to pull up their cellphones’ flashlight to read it.

One place I went last year also had some boardgames, but only opened at night and only had that shit dim yellow light. Reading anything was nearly impossible and even the colors of the game pieces were blending together, “is this red, pink or orange?”

Aladdin could just wish to be the most powerful sorcerer of the world, turn into a giant snake and fight Jaffar. No way that would backfire

I guess human life in India is cheaper than the equipment to safely deal with electricity

I mean, the moment you see a passage that barely fits a child and you think to yourself “Hey, I should get in there!”, you’re just aiming to be the year’s winner of the Darwin Awards.

Just yesterday, I was helping this manager set up a new system of ticket line (the kind where you get a ticket number and wait for it to be called in a panel). He complained that they didn’t have a proper printer just for these tickets, so he made the tickets in excel and printed them. To the right of the number, someone would mark the service, from a list of 6.

“Why not use a single letter prefix and print different piles of passwords? (A01, A02, A03; B01, B02, etc)”

That’ll use too much paper. We’ll also need more tickets than before

“That will use less paper, you can print 2 tickets using the same space. Also, the amount of tickets always depends on the number of people that show up, but you’ll have a better idea of which service is being needed each day”

Mr manager didn’t like the idea and moved on to another problem.

Don’t forget Hasbro trying to pull a retroactive licensing for all D&D stuff. Oh, and sending the Pikertons to harass a person that got set of cards before release by accident

So, is 289.8 the magic, double “nice” number?

You forgot the endless popups in the 2000s, which led to every browser integrating a popup blocker since then (and which often fail to stop actual malicious popups, no less)

One thing that helps more than just looking surprised: ask the kid for further details. If it is something you know, you can catch anything they got wrong and ask “is it really like that? i thought it was different!” (keeping your tone in mind is essential, too)

If it’s something you don’t know, they’ll be more than glad to explain. Which can get tiring, but hey, it’s a small price for getting them interested in learning and sharing their knowledge

Some get better, some get worse. You really can’t generalize this. A friend of mine used to say that “we have to ditch the wise elder, because some people accumulate stupidity with age instead of wisdom”
