InputZero,

Let’s all calm down, and have some Chi at the square.

InputZero,

There is no program I miss quite as much as winamp. It really kicked the lama’s ass.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

InputZero,

If you’re saying everyone is providing your point, I think you disproved your own point.

They’re doing it because we are conditioned to want it.

Conditioning a behavior is basic psych101. It’s a controlled external stimulus which illicits a desirable action from the subject. So a conditioned consumer is subject to external stimulie which illicits them to spend. I wouldn’t blame the subject here, I’d blame the one doing the conditioning.

Regardless of all that, you are right but so wrong. We are all to blame, but I mean corporations and us. Politicians and the oligarchs aren’t responsible for what you or I do. What they are responsible for is manipulating systems to benefit themselves over the interests of the general public.

Since politicians and the business elite wield so much influence that makes them more responsible than you or I who really can’t make a big difference on our own. You’re blaming the proletariat for being the proletariat, but we don’t choose whether or not we are. You can work as hard as you can your entire life and you’ll never amount to the level of power and influence Elon, Jeff, Mark, Bill, or Steve had/have.

InputZero,

It’s actually spelt LIngta’ but maybe closer to LIngt’a’ or to be specific a LIngt’a’ Haj’dob mev’obDeSna. Translated to English is roughly ‘I am certain that this Lingta leg will feed you’. But Klingons are lazy so it’s shortened to LIngta.

How Commute Culture Made American Cities Lifeless -- Yet There's Hope (www.youtube.com)

This video outlines some of the relationships between US commuting culture and the perspectives that it’s engendered about the role of the city. The, when compared and contrasted to other nations’ approach to city design and perspectives shows that it’s possible to have a city core that’s more than just a workplace....

InputZero,

I read a study long time ago, I can’t find it, it’s old, and I have not kept up with new publications so take all this with a huge grain of salt. The study found that not only does a public transit system need to be available and dependable, it needs a certain amount of people too. Once a critical number of commuters used public transit it passed a tipping point where even more people began to use it. The study concluded that people seeing people take public transit will increase the likelihood that they will choose public transit next time compared to people who saw deserted public transit. It’s a chicken and egg problem on top of everything else. Keep in mind I am not an expert and I am not current with the topic.

InputZero,

Is that how it’s supposed to be? I have had many customers drag me out to breakfast claiming to have the best biscuits and gravy, and it’s always the same tasteless crap. My family in America have too. Are they all just THAT basic?

InputZero,

Because the chocolate industry like many others could not grow without child and slave labour. And because the big industry players we have now built their empires on the backs of the easily exploitable they can’t stop doing it without losing wayyyy more than they’re comfortable with.

InputZero,

My cousin has a pickup and I won’t lie, it’s very handy to have one truck you can use in the family. He’s made ramps that fit his truck perfectly, makes loading and unloading furniture from it a breeze. He’s added hooks for snatch blocks, I swear he can tie down literally anything. We wouldn’t have that if we rented because the truck would be different every time. He’s probably moving someone in the extended family once a month. Granted he owns his own contracting company so he uses it daily. That all said there is value in a few generous people having trucks around. Emphasis on the few, especially in urban areas.

InputZero,

Totally agree, it’s not about the quantity of conversations here. It’s the quality. Here I can engage in an Isreal/Palestine conversation with only a moderate level of outrage in the thread, I wouldn’t even dare read such a thread on Reddit. I don’t want to read all that hate and lust for violence.

InputZero,

All of that radiation cooling is just entropy cooling in the end.

InputZero,

Eh, talking about Isreal/Hamas/Palestine has been a sensitive topic for as long as I can remember. I wouldn’t be surprised if an argument broke out between two Catholics in a church on Sunday if they were talking about it. It’s an extremely devicive issue.

InputZero,

I get what you’re saying, but for my daily protest comment against Reddit; there is no such thing as a terrorist tool. Tools aren’t good or bad, but they can be used for good or bad. This has been another comment which added nothing to the conversation. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

InputZero,

I imagine that for a very small minority of the population, that’s actually their kink. Writing sexually explicit and politically suspect text messages in order to force some unwitting federal employee to participate in some deranged message-au-trois. The world is filled with all kinds of people.

InputZero,

Your faith is lacking slag. The God Emperor of All Mankind is already here leading Mankind to glory over the xenos and has been for millennia. He has chosen to not reveal himself to us yet. Accelerating our approach to the age of strife is blasphemy. What if we build the black hole cannons too early and they’ve degraded too much when the Adeptus Mechanicus excavate them. Have faith in the God Emperor’s plan slag and rejoice in your duty.

(Warhammer 40k for anyone who’s going wtf)

InputZero,

Huh, I was unaware of this church. I hope you realize that we were role playing characters from a table top board game gone super franchise titled Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. As far as I’m aware, the Warhammer franchise is not associated in any way with the Columbus, Ohio Christian Xenos Church. That’s why I included terms like Adeptus Mechanics which is pulled directly from the franchise.

InputZero,

I’m just waiting on pope John Paul George, then we just gotta tack on Ringo somehow and we’ve got The Beatles back!

InputZero,

So this is my setup, and it’s pretty cost effective. I have two 2Tb HDDs that are striped and one 500Gb SSD that’s alone. The games I play the most live on my SSD, any games I’m not really playing live on the HDD. Then I just move my games from one to another. I didn’t even have the second HDD for the longest time. I don’t bother with using the SSD as a cache anymore. There is no advantage in gameplay to striping a game, however updates and moves are faster.

InputZero,

No you can’t go home again, but you can make a new home.

InputZero,

You like, believe that you can though man. That’s like belief is fact, man. /S

InputZero,

There’s a story Mr. Rogers used to tell, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” That’s what you need to do, look for the helpers, which for adults and politics means look for the grass roots organizers. Go ask the people putting in the leg work how you can help. Yeah alone you are powerless but in a group you become powerful, find allies.

InputZero,

In no way, shape, or form am I an expert in martial arts or combat. I would imagine however it depends on the situation. An army with spears and an individual with a spear are two very different things. Armys equipped with swords vs spears, spears win. Individuals fighting with a sword and a spear probably comes down to individual skill more than the specific weapon.

InputZero,

I get that the picture is more art than an actual representation of anything. With that said even as art The Matrix in my opinion doesn’t really fit there. Like it’s entirely within the bounds of The Handmaid’s Tale so keeping with the Ven Diagram aesthetic with artistic license it means that The Matrix is most like The Handmaid’s tale, which isn’t not. The Handmaid’s Tale is a feminist story about the domination of women in society, The Matrix is a philosophical exploration of the questions what is real and do we have free choice.

Maybe the argument could be made they’re both about choice but that feels hollow. Maybe put The Hunger Games there I’m definitely over thinking this.

InputZero,

A warning about Framework, they’re on the bleeding edge of modular laptop design (not hardware). So while they may shift laptop design entirely, the bleeding edge always cuts. I don’t know anyone with a Framework laptop and if you’re the first person you know IRL to have one be prepared for unexpected issues. I really hope the idea takes off but I don’t envy the first adopters.

InputZero,

I’ve had extended family members declare bankruptcy several times and they’re still approved for a credit card. Whereas I have never missed a credit payment in my life have a hard time getting a line of credit. I don’t get it, the system is broken.
