How about Wally Gubbins? A series of silly skydiving videos. My father has a ton of them on VHS. I loved it as a kid. I just looked, you can even find them on YouTube. So maybe not that obscure.
In terms of software I remember having several ad games. So, games that are basically just an ad. I had a Bifi game. Some weird game about colours where I don’t remember what it was for. And a “game” about Chesterfield Cigarettes. I remember that I had to install QuickTime Player to run it. It was basically like Google Streetview when you walked into buildings with a few interactive elements put in. No idea where I got it. Might even still have the CD somewhere.
After ~450 hours in the game, I realized something that I’d been wanting was in the game the whole time, just not explicitly: a way to put your items into “folders”....
As the title said, I’m looking for good videos to learn astronomy, cosmology and astrophysics (really, anything related to space is fine, such as rocket science).
Especially the early QM videos by Sabine Hossenfelder are great. Lately she’s just researching popular science news which may or may not be correct. But I like that she is at least stating her bias when she has one.

Anyways, this probably depends on the application. You’d have to find out if there is a command line option in the application to start it minimised or in tray.
In the Networkmanager you can set that a connection is either available to all users or just yourself. If you set it to “all users” its configuration will be saved somewhere in /etc/Networkmanager (I’m too lazy to look up the real path) and will therefore be available for Networkmanager on boot. If you just make it available for yourself Networkmanager will only attempt to connect after you log in.
I think the default is to make it only available to yourself, because then you don’t have to enter your sudo password when you set it up or want to change something. The downside is of course what you describe in your post.

Absolutes in the sense of “they’re communist, they can’t be bad”. Ends don’t justify the means. America isn’t good because it’s “free” and “capitalist”. Russia isn’t good because it’s “strong” and “communist”.
People are assholes. Especially when they get the power to be assholes. A dogmatic easy system alone will not prevent that. This is a hard problem going all throughout human history.
