Before Disney it used to be Star Wars because it has so much potential for any kind of story. You can go super science fictiony without encountering any kind of fantasy elements. You can have a western type setting, dystopia, magic, drama, comedy, any weird combination of them all.

Ending my honor run in shame

I’m 100+ hours into an honor run and I’ve finally made a decision I apparently can’t live with. I was offered a gift at the end of act 2, and while it was totally out of character for me to accept it, my curiosity got the better of me. I never made it this far before and I wanted to see what would happen. Now I hardly even...

Real people also sometimes do stupid shit that seems to go against their nature. I’d keep playing. You could make your regret inform all your future decisions.

Long Covid.

Being woken up by fireworks wasn’t conducive of healing, though.

Only complaints I have with Nextcloud are that it’s slow and updates suck over the web interface. But apart from that it has been reliable. I’m not running it through Docker. In fact, my installation is so old that the database tables still have an oc_ prefix.

OSX and Linux both use the Common Unix Printing System. It works more or less the same on both systems.

18+ What's your favorite episode of MST3k? (lemmy.world)

I remember one day hearing my father downstairs laughing his ass off. Went down to see what was so funny to find he had just discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000, and was losing it watching The Giant Gila Monster. I sat down to watch. I didn’t really get it then, but I’ve been a fan ever since.

I’m so proud of my kids who will demand adblockers if something in their YouTube app or their browser is broken. Even though they like to see toy ads now and then. But when they get the amount a regular mortal receives it’s too much, even for them.

I wanted to say that nobody in their right mind would take these seriously. But then I remembered the general state of mind of people.

I’ve started using BTRFS on my laptop with OpenSUSE and on my Steam Deck. It does two things for me, which I’m interested in. On OpenSUSE it does a snapshot before every system update. So if anything goes wrong I can easily roll back.

On the Steam Deck I love the deduplication. It’s really great for a ton of Windows games that all need their own little “Windows” environment which amounts to a GB or two per game. With BTRFS I only use that space once.

When you have something on that blog that is tracking users. Usually ads or Google Analytics. Ideally these things already bring in their own banners.

It is not about cookies. It is about tracking. Tracking through other means also needs the banner. Also cookies for a shopping cart or a login or user preferences do not need a banner.

What Tweak, Program, ... changes a Desktop Environment from unusable to great for you?

I have used Linux on and off for 15 years. I consider myself a casual user and stuck to the mainstream DEs (mostly KDE, XFCE and some Cinnamon). Gnome has been a hurdle for me before and after the big version 40 changes, I couldn’t get my head around how they handled the workspaces and workflow. At some point I I tried out an...

Not exactly unusable, but when wobbly windows aren’t activated it unironically feels broken to me.

My kids have always been using Linux because that’s what I use on my gaming PC. When it was time for my eldest to get his own computer I tried to educate him on the differences between Linux and Windows (admittedly with my bias) and he chose Linux. I feel like wobbly windows played a big part in that.

He moans about some unsupported multiplayer games now and then and I have told him that we have a spare SSD he may use to install Windows. But so far his suffering wasn’t big enough to help me step him through that process.

You’re supposed to use distilled water which is not conductive. At least that used to be the case last I saw liquid cooling.

In the end it’s simply not worth it for me. You still need to radiate the heat out, which usually means a big fan, which most air coolers nowadays have anyways.

Downloading a virus has as much effect on Windows as it does on Linux and any other operating system: None.

Unless it exploits a security vulnerability with something that automatically touches the file. Like a virus scanner.

Well, Flatseal is using flatpak’s standard way of managing permissions. Everything it does you can also do from the command line with flatpak. It’s just a frontend.

I think KDE wants to add these options to it’s settings as well. That will be great, when it’s better integrated into the whole system.

Well, technically Cliegg bought 3PO when he bought Shmi. So in a roundabout way the funds of Owen’s family went twice to acquiring 3PO.

Three times if you factor in the costs of however Anakin acquired the parts.

And then Owen’s moody half-brother and his rich girlfriend just stole the droid.

Padmé losing more and more of her clothes in AotC always reminds me of Sigourney Weaver going through the same in Galaxy Quest. I’m convinced GL was subtly referencing that.

Banks in Hong Kong can print their own money. There are 8 different designs in circulation. (lemmy.world)

Before someone asks why there isn’t insane inflation from banks printing an infinite amount of money for themselves, the Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar. In order to be allowed to print HKD, banks must have an equivalent amount of USD on deposit.
