CarlsIII, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?

Bye bye ties!

GentlemenPreferBongs,

They literally look sloppy unless they feel a bit too tight. At least on me. I aim for about a 15% reduction in blood flow to my brain; then I know I’m looking sharp.

sideone,
@sideone@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t remember the last time I wore a tie (oh, probably my brother’s wedding). Don’t bother for interviews or funerals now.

SgtSilverLining, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?
@SgtSilverLining@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’d change everything! Women’s fashion has so many different sewing techniques and styles - maybe 10% of those are in men’s fashion. Give men lettuce hems and dropped waists! Princess seams and tulip sleeves! Make fashion unisex!

I don't know what any of those terms mean, but I support you in this!

keenanpepper, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” - Hanlon’s Razor

button_masher,

Someone added in “or laziness or busyness” and it stuck with me.

Crunkle_Foreskin, (edited ) in What is the craziest thing that's ever happened in your life?
@Crunkle_Foreskin@kbin.social avatar

Visiting my terminally ill father in hospital after he had a fall. I asked him what that huge bruise on his neck was, if it was from the fall.

"No, it's the cancer." Was the thing he said, and I'll never forget it. Crazy. Turns out the tumour was cutting off blood flow to his brain and causing him to pass out. He died a month later. Almost a year to that day now.

Love you, Dad.

teawrecks, in What password manager do you recommend?

Keepass is

  • open source and free
  • just uses a file, so you can sync it wherever/however you want
  • has a browser plugin with autofill if you’re into that
  • is supported on all platforms
  • database lives in an encrypted file that you put wherever you choose
sonstwas,

For syncing I use Syncthing. It’s open-source as well and syncs two/multiple devices without the need for cloud-storage

Machinist, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?
@Machinist@lemmy.world avatar

Machining and blacksmithing are highly correlated with right wing BS in the US. Check my uname and ask me how I know. 😁

FierroGamer,

This one may not be so obvious, but I’ve seen someone lose their marbles over the crazy idea that they get recommended stuff for children when all they watch on YouTube is Minecraft videos and sometimes Roblox. And people in the comments agreed…

The YouTube subreddit wasn’t full of bright people.

BlueSquid0741, in Is there an easy way to bring all my old technical posts from Reddit to Lemmy?

Thank you for not deleting your old posts! I’ve seen too many people saying they have used tools to delete all their old Reddit posts.

Information lost is information lost, it doesn’t matter if you like the platform or not.

jaschen,

I was close to deleting it. I’m also subbed to data hording and this is the opposite of what we do there. If someone is searching for something obscure as 3D printing issue on an Artillery 1, I rather it show up on lemmy, not reddit.

deranger,

It does matter. They’re not going to profit off my submissions by injecting ads when someone searches for a solution. I’m not going to contribute to their financial gain.

It’s not lost data if it’s documented elsewhere. Download your data and delete everything.

rufus,

well, it’s kinda lost for humanity if it only gathers dust on your harddisk and isn’t accessible for anyone…

deranger,

Hence “hosted elsewhere”. Download and decentralize.

I should have specified delete everything from Reddit. Don’t let them profit off your posts. Do share your knowledge.

NightOwl,

Then encourage people repost it somewhere else. And Facebook also started out as only a social media company but now is integrated into so many aspects of our lives and in some countries the default messaging service.

So depending on the view deleting content is also for humanity to try and avoid the emergence of another data mining mega corp.

NightOwl,

That information is what leads back to reddit and creates new users. And the more obscure the info the higher reddit results will pop up in searches. Search results even put less priority on even forums that contain information in favor of years old reddit results being promoted to the top.

If the goal is to cut off reddit and decrease its influence then deleting is the way forward. It is the one singular act that actually has an impact.

empireOfLove, in How safe is it to eat raw eggs?

Eggs can be pasteurized- aka heated to kill off bacteria such as salmonella - without cooking them. From a quick Google, in the US and Japan it should be standard to make this dish with such eggs as to be safe to eat. I can’t speak to Brazil’s food safety standards though- the chances of using pasteurized eggs could be a lot lower, however if it’s a Japanese export/import, Japan takes such safety very seriously, so it’s likely to be safe.

grahamsz,

If you buy eggs preshelled in the US then they are required to be pasteurized - something like this would be good https://vitalfarms.com/pasture-raised-liquid-whole-eggs/

In theory you can pasteurize an egg in its shell, but they aren't very common round here.

Dick_Justice, in What are the most appropriate responses to some very uncomfortable and awkward questions?
@Dick_Justice@lemmy.world avatar

aRe YoU a ToP oR A bOTToM??

Absolute strangers will ask you that the moment they find out you’re gay.

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

Are you the man or the woman???

My response is usually “are you the man or the woman in your relationship?”

We’re both men, that’s the whole point!

Barbacamanitu,

“We’re both the woman”

Melobol,

I believe some comedian suggested to respond with a similar vulgar question about their sex life. I think that’s a fair point.
Tho you can always ask them if their first question to a stranger is a deeply personal one to get their own perversions fed. That way you are still on the high horse :)

Lemmylefty,
@Lemmylefty@lemmy.world avatar

“Why, trying to figure out if we’re compatible?”

Barbacamanitu,

Just say “we’re both the bottom” and confuse the shit out of them. Or “he’s the bottom and I’m the girl”

soybeanscheesesticks, in I need to survive for 3 days while pooping as much as possible. I can pee as often as I like. It can take up loads of space. What food do I pack?

This shall go down as the first meta shit post in the history of Lemmy. I love it!

666dollarfootlong, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

My guess: Airsoft or paintball MilSim (Military-Simulation) operation. OP is a sniper. There is an ambush. Long-shot: re-enactment of The killing of Osama Bin Laden. OP's crush is there. OP's butthole is sore, so they want a few days of no toilets to allow their bottom to heal.

zkfcfbzr, in If you could have one small thing as a superpower. What would it be and why?

givesomefucks, in Have you ever gotten scammed, package stolen, or been a victim of fraud in any way?

I once thought “Amazon refurbished” was a program by Amazon…

Turns out they just throw that label on random companies that refurbished on their own.

Bought a cellphone from one, they sent me the wrong phone model, and I paid for unlocked and they sent me one locked to a different carrier, then said that carrier was the most popular (it’s not) and they assumed it was what I wanted.

When I was complaining about that, they told me all I had to do was put it in a UPS drop box, explicitly told me I didn’t have to go to a store.

According to them, they never got the return.

I talked to Amazon, and their customer service just flat out lied and told me they could see the return was in transit.

Weeks later Amazon tried to charge me for the phone, and I had to do a charge back. Because apparently following the sellers instructions to put it in a drop off, meant I couldn’t prove I mailed it.

I have no idea if I was sent the wrong phone intentionally as a scam where they were always going to say they didn’t get the return, but it definitely felt like it by the end of it

average650,
@average650@lemmy.world avatar

I would bet they just didn’t care if it was the right phone or not.
