I’ve been bootstrapping the shit out of myself, picking myself up everytime the economy kicks us into a deeper well.
Hell next year we’ll actually be breaking even at the end of the month, while we’ve been eating only 2/3rd of what our bodies require to get through the day in a normal functioning manner. I wonder how long it takes for this economy to actually make us homeless because it seems like that is only a year or 2 away.
I wouldn’t watch it again, but given that I’d already decided to do fuck all with my evening and veg out on Netflix I’m not as angry as most of you. It was dumb. I’ll probably watch part 2 in pieces if I watch it
I’m so bored by the over stylised slow mo. It got so tedious once the action started. The backdrops looked cool but the green screen wasn’t even done well. Between the shitty green screen, indigent slow mo and overall lack of cohesive story it was impossible to get immersed. The plot was just a hodgepodge of fellowship of the ring pokemon team building of a bunch of nobodies who of course had to been and Haw before joining up reluctantly. At least in justice league the Flash went against this trope and it was one of the better scenes in that shitty film.
Between this atrocity, the latest marvel offerings, the latest Indiana Jones, and the latest Avatar I’m wondering if my film palate is too discerning these days or are big films just getting shittier? Everything is somehow overwrought yet derivative. The last thing I watched that was ambitious that I remember blowing me away was the Watchmen series

I feel this too, I’m so sick of unoriginal continuations of existing IP. I’ve been enjoying A24 movies and shows though, Beef and EEAAO absolutely blew me away. I also loved Pearl and Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein. I love their metamodern style.
Edit: not A24, but Barry was also fantastic. Plot points that you expect to be dragged out over 1-2 seasons are resolved quickly, because the show has a dense, concise story to tell and doesn’t waste time.
+100 for Barry, that show was too good and underrated. I don’t know if I’ll find a show as great as that for a while, but thankful Fargo is still on.
As far as A24, I think Robert Eggers’ ‘The Lighthouse’ and Ari Aster’s ‘Beau Is Afraid’ are my favorites.
Another weird movie I enjoyed recently is Triangle of Sadness (2022). Oh and ‘Enemy’ (2013) was so artistic, I think. Also ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ (2022), what a movie.
Boots Riley’s debut film and TV show, Sorry to Bother You and I’m a Virgo, respectively, were amazing as well.
I haven’t seen the ‘X’ films or Frankenstein’s (…) but I will have to now.
I found the new Avatar lacklustre as well. Dune wasn’t my thing either. Big hopes for the Jak and Daxter film but that’s mostly because I hope it will spawn a new game. Enjoying the fifth season of the TV show ‘Fargo’ airing at the moment which is mostly consistently good.
Chronological. Completely uncensored. Allow easy blocking of others, including blocking posts/comments from your personal feed using categories or keyword recognition.
I initially rejected this idea with a reason like “You seem to forget how vile certain parts of the internet can be,” but the more I think about it the more I agree, given a few conditions. Namely that children should not be allowed access.
Forbidding children access to the internet would solve many problems, such as social media addiction (potentially leading to depression), the spreading of misinformation, and the general amount of child exploitation online. I don’t deny that such an action may introduce other issues that I have yet to consider, but I still feel that the main points are very compelling.
I am also aware that such a system is not perfect and that people will undoubtedly circumvent it, but a much larger number of people will not (if it is made difficult to do so). Unfortunately, the only conceivable way to do such a thing is some kind of age-verification system, which I am against for various privacy-related reasons.
Watched this over the Christmas break. The best review I had read from someone else was from a post on Lemmy that said something to the effect of “if you set up a TV to play 10 generic sci-fi movies and just changed the channel between them allrandomly you’d end up with a film as cohesive as Rebel Moon.”
Eggs, sausage, grilled cheese, fries, hash browns (pretty much every type of potatoes except baked or mashed), cheeseburgers, baked beans, hot dogs, corn dogs.
There’s more I just can’t think of them atm.
I fuckin love ketchup and will die on the ketchup hill
Similar problem here. I’ve invented a pill that actually does make your penis 30% larger with no side effects, but nobody seems interested in investing in scaling up production.
It all started when a friend and I were cruising down the street in his brand new Ferrari. You see, he ran a website with an award for the one millionth visitor. It had a flashing banner popup with sound and everything, but nobody registered to claim the Ferrari. That’s when it dawned on me that someone should actually do some research into penis enlargement pills, and the answer was surprisingly simple. To make one you just need to use this one weird trick, discovered by a mom.
That was one of my favorite features of the Nexus one. Didn’t really need the track ball but being able to customize the color of notification light (I forget if that needed root or not) based on app was great. I’m guessing it must have been persistent blinking otherwise my current edge lighting notification would scratch the same itch, couldn’t be just nostalgia on my part…
Surprisingly (to me), having a child. I never wanted kids. Never even babysat, didn’t like them-- hated how silly, loud, and disgusting they are. Then I got pregnant by accident. I was terrified. I was abused as a child and have a bad temper, so I was afraid I would lose it and hurt my kid. Pregnancy was difficult, labor and delivery moreso, but the instant he popped out … I cannot describe to you the transformation. I am sure it is purely hormonal; pitocin is a helluva drug. My husband even said, “Who are you and what have you done with my wife?” It was akin to a lobotomy. Suddenly I adored babies and wanted to hold them and coo at them. I became more mellow and patient, went from the sort of conservative mindset that thinks “get a job,” to the theretofore incomprehensible liberal views like “most in jail aren’t really to blame for the circumstances they find themselves in, let’s help them instead of punish them.”
My son is by far the biggest blessing in my life. He is a companion that I never grow tired of, a wise sounding board, and a balm to my old age. I am literally a kinder, better person because I had him.
In my opinion, it’s the other way around. The busses run at 4 because thats when they’re in demand, and they’re in demand because of the time the factory expects the workers to show up.
FM receiver on phones + 3.5mn jack was a crucial source of local radio transmissions. I suspect some phones still ship radio receivers but the popular types like Samsungs and iPhones don’t seem to care (or perhaps that competes with their music and podcast markets).
Here in Italy since 2020 it’s not legal to sell a device that has an FM receiver if that device doesn’t also have a DAB/DAB+ receiver, so many companies have been shipping software updates that disabled the FM receiver app even if they were compliant on older phones. Kinda sucks.
That sucks! As long as a device can decode the signals, I don’t see why they should phase it out just to be compatible with DAB+ (especially when infrastructural costs are not a major factor).
Yeah. My toxic as shit ex wife decided she wanted a divorce. What I perceived to be the worst day of my life was actually the best day of my life I just didn’t know it yet.
I met this extremely successful woman that has shown me life can be amazing. I never thought life could be this good.
