beebarfbadger, in Baldur's Gate 3 colossal new patch adds a playable epilogue set six months after the game ends with 3,589 new lines of dialogue, 2 new difficulty modes, and I'm running out of headline space

130 GB download for a patch? Guess we’re just redownloading the game every month now.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I'm pretty much at a loss for words here. This feels like a definitive-edition style update we're getting basically for free. It's 30 gigs of goodness, so game-changing in fact that you need 130GB of space just to let it shuffle everything around, and Larian's straight up recommended just doing a clean reinstall if you're having trouble. Baldur's Gate 3 fans haven't just been eating good, we've been feasting.

beebarfbadger,

Yeah, only with my connection, I can pretty much expect the next overhaul to come out just around the time this download is finished.

disheveledWallaby, (edited )

Larian showing the love! I just love this game and think this studio has become my absolute favorite.

Hairyblue, (edited ) in Baldur’s Gate 3 Slyly Adds Jiggle Physics For D**ks, Balls
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I just noticed this yesterday. As a gay man, I find this makes the game even more fun to play. I hope everyone else is enjoying seeing the guys jiggle.

Larian keeps perfecting the game, and I am very impressed with that level of dedication from a gaming company.

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

Love jiggly dicks, so this is certainly welcome!

elbarto777,

I’m not gay, and I welcome this change!

Enjoy!

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

As a heterosexual man, the game went from utterly unplayable to game of the year. Magic I can suspend my disbelief for. But a lack of johnson physics? That’s a step too far.

Finally a truly immersive gaming experience.

…oookay, the update is 102 GB on gog galaxy… seems a bit excesssive

kboy101222,

Maybe the galaxy version doesn’t patch files, it can only reinstall them. The steam version was only like 20 gigs

entropicdrift,
@entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Galaxy does patch, usually. Just didn’t this time

Gotta love how they right their terms of service, for both the game and the music/audio file download rewards.

JJROKCZ, in Beating BG3's new Honor Mode rewards golden D20 skin.

Or just use a mod to turn it on as an option and add dozens of other dice options. There were dice skins up as soon as it released

teft,
@teft@startrek.website avatar

No mods on PS5. Plus I’d rather earn it the hard way.

JJROKCZ,

Well the rest of us will be enjoying the content regardless when you get off that high horse Ms/Mr “I earned my digital dice skin”

MagicShel, in Anyone else having characters not moving their lips during dialog?

I’ve been seeing it. Worse since the patch, but it happened every once in a while before. Major desync between the audio and animation; sometimes cutting each other off.

Now I’ve just restarted and it hasn’t been any worse than before, so I feel like maybe the problem had to do with continuing games started before the patch.

PS5.

Faildini,

Hmm, just tried restarting my PC, no dice. It’s 100% percent of dialogue for me, not just some of the time. Guess I’ll try the old uninstall/reinstall.

MagicShel,

I meant I started a new playthrough, sorry. Hopefully that’s not the issue for you though.

Rusty_Red,

What I’ve found is that it tends to happen more on dialogs and cut scenes that are skipped through. If you press A or skip through a cutscene at the wrong time (no idea how to tell when a bad time is) it will de sync the entire dialog and from then out you just get characters bobbing their heads as if they were saying something but not actually speaking. Luckily it seems to stop happening for me on the next cutscene if I let it play through the entire way unskipped.

Wild Shapes that do not have weapons will now benefit from having the Tavern Brawler feat.

Aaaaawwwwwww yeah!

twistypencil,

Nice thanks for pointing it out

Stovetop, (edited ) in 'There's almost nobody left': CEO of Baldur's Gate 3 dev Swen Vincke says the D&D team he initially worked with is gone, due to Hasbro layoffs

Seeing a lot of people in this and similar threads confused by the headline apparently not having read the article.

There were no mass layoffs at Larian, the video game studio that developed Baldur’s Gate 3.

There were mass layoffs at Hasbro, the company that owns Wizards of the Coast, which produces the Dungeons & Dragons RPG system used by Baldur’s Gate 3.

Throughout the development of Baldur’s Gate 3, the team at Larian would have been working alongside the team at Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast to make sure the Dungeons & Dragons system was integrated properly into the video game.

Following the layoffs, the CEO of Larian had commented that the D&D team who had helped design the system that Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on is now almost completely gone.

RiikkaTheIcePrincess, in Anyone wanna play BG3 together? PC or Playstation
@RiikkaTheIcePrincess@pawb.social avatar

🤔 Why can’t I find a commagazine for finding critters to play things with? There should definitely be one somewhere :-\

I won’t have BG3 for another couple of years, though, so I cannot offer to provide this with-playing service for you (but actually also myself 'cause bleeeh I haven’t actually talked to a person in ages) 😅

BobaFett26,
@BobaFett26@lemmy.world avatar

Why won’t you have it for another couple years?

RiikkaTheIcePrincess,
@RiikkaTheIcePrincess@pawb.social avatar

I just assume it’ll be $60/at least $30 for a year or two and kinda have no income.

I don’t know how time works; maybe it’ll only be a year or something before big sales occur? 😅 🤷‍♀️

EmpathicVagrant,

Maybe they’ll bless with a featured monthly drop like they did with Callisto

Linuto,

Critter as in Critical Role? The CR community here is pretty small to begin with, but maybe you could try posting over there.

RiikkaTheIcePrincess,
@RiikkaTheIcePrincess@pawb.social avatar

I have no idea what you’re talking about <.< I just call people “critters” because I think it’s cute and amusey :3

Linuto, (edited )

Oh gotcha. There is a community built around a D&D let’s play who call themselves, “Critters”, as a play on words with the title of said show, “Critical Role”. Thought that was what you were referring to.

So I didn’t realize that kbin wasn’t getting votes federated properly nor that the kbin/lemmy threadiverse thingle was so hateful until I came to Reddit 2Lemmy and saw that, as with Reddit 1, everything I say gets silently downvoted. Obviously these are just crappy people with nothing to actually say but damn, kinda makes this place feel awful like everybody’s just sitting around waiting for a chance to jump on people. Literal Reddit wasn’t this bad in my experience.

twistypencil, in Baldur's Gate 3 colossal new patch adds a playable epilogue set six months after the game ends with 3,589 new lines of dialogue, 2 new difficulty modes, and I'm running out of headline space

Somehow, I’m still in act 1, 40 hours in and savoring the whole time

CaptPretentious,

Take your time brother. There is no rush. The game has literally been getting better with time.

agnomeunknown,
@agnomeunknown@lemmy.world avatar

Take your time, it’s worth it. I reluctantly finished my “first” playthrough (not counting my actual first attempt when I started as the dark urge and restarted after 20 hours because it was clearly fucking everything up) at around 250 hours played. This patch is making me consider starting again. Best game I’ve played in ages.

jordanlund, in Would it be a good gift?
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

I think the key thing is that it’s turn based and a lot of kids that age don’t have the patience for a turn based game, especially when you’re controlling a party of 4.

EmpathicVagrant,

4? You mean you haven’t made a party of four druids each with 2-3 summons, yet?

Uglyhead, (edited ) in 'There's almost nobody left': CEO of Baldur's Gate 3 dev Swen Vincke says the D&D team he initially worked with is gone, due to Hasbro layoffs
@Uglyhead@lemmy.world avatar

There was an attempt to separate WoTC and break it off from Hasbro in 2022.

Dragging down the games it owns and the stock with it, the powers that be at Hadbro instead decided to stick with the sinking ship.

The spin-off would have been beautiful. Run by gamers, for gamers; like it was in the beginning with people like Peter Adkison and Richard Garfield at the helm.

Rodneyck, in 'There's almost nobody left': CEO of Baldur's Gate 3 dev Swen Vincke says the D&D team he initially worked with is gone, due to Hasbro layoffs

Yup, sounds like a corporation, nothing shocking to see here.

MagicShel, in Baldur's Gate 3 tips and tricks for Honor Mode

When you are at the brain stem leading to the final fight if you have Gale in your party you can skip the entire final fight. Just send Gale up alone and he will confront the brain by himself leaving everyone else alive. This kills Gale so if he is your husbando you have a tough decision to make.

Tough decisions are for after you’ve gotten the golden d20. My current run though I’m mercenary as hell. I ate all the worms even the astral worm with gusto. I’ll be a mind flayer, murder Isobel, whatever. I might let the hag eat Vanya to have her as an ally in the final fight.

The only things I haven’t done are the ones that relied on dice rolls that I failed. I gave up the hag bonus the first time in favor of keeping Marina alive, but I also couldn’t think of a stat that could really benefit. I almost took it so that my charisma could stay 8 with the smuggler’s ring but ultimately decided that wasn’t worth letting Ethel have her.

I lucked out with the zathisk and book of Thay. Misclicks are the worst. “Hey bro, what’s up? Whoa! I didn’t mean to touch the carrot! [Deception] Oh I already had that on me. [Critical Failure].” A short combat later. “Fuck!”

teft, in Honor Mode Miss Chance Apophenia
@teft@startrek.website avatar

They are definitely modifying the dice rolls in some way in tactician and honor modes. You can see it in things like ability checks. Normally you’ll have a chance to roll well for any roll even if you don’t have proficiency in the skill, for example a 15 CHA dialog check and you have 8 CHA, if you roll a 16+ you’ll pass it. On tactician and honor mode if you don’t have proficiency you’ll struggle to pass the check, all your rolls will be under 5 usually. I’ve burned 4 inspirations with advantage before and watched 8 dice rolls under 5 for a skill check I wasn’t proficient in multiple times in a run. I just ignore it now since it is what it is but I really wish the difficulty wasn’t rigged like that. It’d be great to have a fair but brutal mode.
