I reloaded a save I had from within the fight. I can’t get those spoiler tags to work, so I can’t get into more details without revealing the finale, but you definitely don’t have to repeat the whole fight. You just need to get to a point before it jumps into the epilogue to trigger it.
I think I know exactly what choice you are talking about. I felt the same way to a certain extent. Let me use a level one or two spell slot to cast a glamour or something.
HOWEVER: What you get out of it in my opinion is worth it 100% also if you are on Pc there is a mod that takes care of the main problem with this gift. It’s the only mod I’ve got running at the moment.
The number of times I’ve gotten two or even three critical failures/misses in a row is mind boggling. That said I’ve watched the NPCs do it as well, so there is a semblance of fairness. You’re right that the statistics feel off, but as is always the case, our minds are going to focus on these outliers without recalling all the many times the dice fell right in line with expectations.
I do swear that a 50% chance to hit with a Sacred Flame consistently feels more like a 15% chance.
Those back to back critical failures remind me of the time I tried to lockpick a chest with advantage and tons of bonuses with the final result still being a natural 1… a 1/400 chance. At least it wasn’t when trying to recruit Shadowheart on the nautiloid like I’ve heard has happened to others.
75% chance to hit with advantage (I know percent includes advantage in the calculation) and I wiff three attacks in a row. I check the rolls and I’ve gotten nothing higher than a 4. On 6 separate rolls?? Come on…
I do swear that a 50% chance to hit with a Sacred Flame consistently feels more like a 15% chance.
Bro. I swear Sacred Flame and Guiding Bolt both actually roll d8s instead of d20s. 90% with advantage and you know that Guiding Bolt is either missing or critically hitting.
I had to go buy a new controller for my honor mode playthrough because my old one had developed stick drift and in my tactician run I biffed a bunch of shots with Astarion because i would put the cursor on the person to shoot and when i hit x to shoot the stick would move at the last second.
All that is to say, I feel your pain and salute you and your fallen comrades.
Funnily enough I was more or less just testing out my Steam Deck because I had just put in new hall effect sticks. And I can’t blame anyone but myself for just switching through the options.
I'm pretty much at a loss for words here. This feels like a definitive-edition style update we're getting basically for free. It's 30 gigs of goodness, so game-changing in fact that you need 130GB of space just to let it shuffle everything around, and Larian's straight up recommended just doing a clean reinstall if you're having trouble. Baldur's Gate 3 fans haven't just been eating good, we've been feasting.
It can be fun in small doses except when it wants you to watch a bunch of cutscenes instead of doing stuff. The biggest drawback is just the length of the game. If you played 5 hours per week it might take upwards of half a year to finish a playthrough.
That being said, it’s probably one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played and the best D&D computer game I’ve ever played. I’m fifty so that encompasses a lot of games. The range of morality and meaningful choices is extremely high. To the point where I want to experience making different choices but it’s hard because it’s such a time commitment to do a whole playthrough just to see what unique dialog options you get for playing a Tiefling or a Druid.
The romances and dialogs can be a little spicy, and it runs the gamut of adult language. I think nudity can be turned off and romance is optional, but you’d have to judge whether that would be a problem for their family. Even the full on sex scenes imply more than they show, but I’d be uncomfortable if I was surprised by one while playing with my kid. This is definitely a judgment call on your part.
It’s a great game and I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from buying/playing it, but I’d be remiss to not mention some of the reasons it might not be for everyone. I’m hopeful it might lead to introducing my kids to tabletop play. But I’m not overly concerned with language or adult themes in an appropriate context.
That’s actually my brother’s age range. And yeah I guess I was so drawn to this because it’s potential for a common interest and shared experience! But I think based on all this it would be best if I played it first and wait until next year to consider it as a gift when I have full context of adult themes.
But damn I gotta say the responses to this post are all so wonderful and it just makes me want to play this game even more because the community is so helpful!
