i think that might be a suicide prevention measure, i remember something about blister packaging helping reduce suicide rates.

greatbarriergeek,

Just looked this up, had no idea but it makes sense

MaxVoltage,
@MaxVoltage@lemmy.world avatar

😂 Bro its sad how so many doctors dont really consider most humans adults lol

Reddfugee42,

Elaborate

Aermis,

Adults are the ones usually killing themselves by overdosing. Suicide is final, and survivors of botched attempts praise that they failed to kill themselves. It’s why men have a higher suicide rate, because their method is usually final. Having a packaging that hinders the process of suicide via overdosing is helpful to all involved.

downdaemon, (edited )
@downdaemon@lemmy.ml avatar

i talked some shit above but that sounds more right, do you have any sources?

Aermis,

CDC reports 90% of suicide survivors don’t attempt a second suicide.

bbc.com/…/20190313-why-more-men-kill-themselves-t…

bluewing,

You will also often see such packaging used with in hospitals, group homes, and nursing homes. It helps to limit med errors for nurses and cnas and can allow some mentally handicapped people or elderly to have some control over their lives.

It’s not a common packaging you are going to get from a pharmacy unless specified for you by a doctor.

cactusupyourbutt,

that still works if you put 20 in the same blister package

HikingVet, in New server policy. Lemmites who misbehave get sent to Disney land with a bus full of Disney adults.

This is a person who never had someone hit them in any real manner. I hope there is a parent there who is just looking for an excuse.

VonCesaw,

Acting violent to those you find mildly annoying is an actual disorder (intermittent anger disorder), I’d get it checked out before you end up doing time my brother

HikingVet, (edited )

I’ll take the hate on what I said. People saying they are going to push kids are in my experience more likely to cause harm then me wanting them to face consequences

And unless you have a degree realted to mental health, I don’t need your armchair diagnosis of misreading of my comment.

TimeNaan,

I’m pretty sure the caption is a joke.

HikingVet, (edited )

Either way, wishing consequences isn’t “acting violent”.

VonCesaw,

Responding to simple assault that doesn’t involve you with assault and battery IS acting violent

HikingVet,

Except in the defence of others.

VonCesaw,

99% sure that ‘others’ would prefer it be done by somebody that is trained, officiated, and legally responsible for their actions rather than watch some self-proclaimed vigilante justice dealer attack someone else

HikingVet,

I see you decrying all I’ve said, but you’ve yet to address the fact that she said she was gonna push kids. So, give me a reason why I shouldn’t want her to face consequences? And calling the cops is inviting lethal force into the mix.

VonCesaw,

Disney has security guards. Disney has security cameras. Disney has jurisdiction to have people removed from the park. Disney has the right to have people charged with crimes they committed (with evidence from previously mentioned guards and cameras). Disney does not need people to do their job for them, they can literally handle it themselves.

LemmysMum,

It’s not about Disney, it’s about improving society. Disney’s jurisdiction ends at the gate, people like this need to know a lesson can be taught anywhere by anyone.

VonCesaw,

easy there Frank Castle

HikingVet,

Yeah, at this point I’d feel more comfortable sitting next Cpt. Castle than you.

VonCesaw,

I mean, fully rejecting empathetic governance in favor of pseudodictitorial violent threat by violence doers is one way to look at things. It even lead to the fastest growing (and shortest lived) empires of the 20th century!

HikingVet,

Like not dealing with entitled adults? Be empathetic as much as you want, but sometimes you gotta realise some people don’t learn unless they come up against it. And those people usually think they can push kids.

VonCesaw,

Thats why there’s a thing called the legal system, where they use (mostly) legitimate authority to fairly prosecute people in a way that respects their rights

Some thug walking around attempting to be judge, jury, and jailhouse yard all at once because someone did something they dislike is some Mad Max Spaghetti Western garbage

dingus, (edited ) in New server policy. Lemmites who misbehave get sent to Disney land with a bus full of Disney adults.

Maybe a hot take, but I actually DO get why even adults like the theming of Disney World/land and like to visit it so much. The theming is just so intricately done that it’s honestly very impressive and great to look at and just take in. When you hear about the way some of these art pieces were designed it just makes it that much more amazing imo.

But why are some of these people obsessed with the people in costumes that are clearly meant for toddlers? I don’t marvel at some sweaty tween in a weird furry costume. I don’t get it.

PaupersSerenade,
@PaupersSerenade@sh.itjust.works avatar

I used to work at the parks and loved just hanging out. There’s a lot of work that went into forced perspective and theming. Disney has always leaned hard into escapism, and it’s easy to see why someone would want to be reminded of easier years.

AlligatorBlizzard,

Oh, hey, I worked attractions and merchandise at DAK back in 2008-2014 with a few gaps in there. And same, it was nice to just chill in the parks. Did you get to do any of the cast backstage tours? I got to go on one to the Haunted Mansion, that was really cool to see.

PaupersSerenade,
@PaupersSerenade@sh.itjust.works avatar

I was attractions at DCA around that time frame as well! Got to do a track walk of Indy, previewed changed attractions, and got to do Tower of Terror no-show rides when I was closing.

AlligatorBlizzard,

I got to do a track walk of Dinosaur too, did you know that Dinosaur is just a re-themed Indy? They pointed out where the boulder would be on the other ride during the walkthrough. Disney did not put much effort into Dinoland at all, lol.

LillyPip, (edited )

Agreed.

Also, if an adult enjoys cartoons and sleeps with a plushie, I am not going to judge. Life is hard. Whatever it takes to get through the day, you do you.

IMO, telling people their benign coping mechanism is bad is how we get more shootings. Clutch that plushie, my dude!

I’d honestly be impressed by a freezer that’s been running since '97.

helpImTrappedOnline,

That’s before they started building them to fail. Why? Because a freezer that’s been running since '97 is at least two unsold new freezers.

phx,

There’s also a lot of other stuff that changed over time. New appliances may be more efficient, run on different (more environmentally friendly) coolant, have lead-free solder circuits, etc.

The thing is, a lot of that old stuff which was found to have health or environment issues also lasted longer. Leaded solder didn’t get burrs, for example. The components may also have been easier to repair.

But there’s also survivor bias. For every old freezer that sat in grandma’s basement for 2-3 decades many more ended up in a scrap heap.

Sagifurius, (edited )

I have a freezer from 1953, works fine. It’s appliances made after @2000 that shit the bed in 5 years or less. No, it’s not survivorship bias, there’s a certain time period you don’t see anything survived from.

Sagifurius,

sfgifz, (edited )

No, it’s not survivorship bias

Yes it is. The probability is much more significant that there are appliances from 2000s still working fine while your 1950s piece is one of the last few left. Just because your reality has a different view doesn’t mean it’s the same on a global scale.

Sagifurius, (edited )

No, it’s not. You should see a bunch of appliances from that era like you do older eras, but they’re just gone. My 53 fridge i bought last year, i was so happy when it turned on again. Moving them at that age is risky as hell. but I have ten fridges and 6 freezers i use to run my small town restaurant. I’ve paid close attention to the used market, I’m not just blowing random horseshit. Commercial grade is a different story. but wasn;t what I was talking about.
