Did the che Guevara even support gay people?

QueerCommie,
@QueerCommie@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Idk about Che, but that’s Fidel Castro. Fidel was socially progressive in his later years, and Che probably would’ve been but his life was cut short. Today Cuba is a world leader in queer rights, especially considering the 2022 family referendum.

LemmyKnowsBest, (edited ) in Plowing

the years 2013 to 2016 we got particularly bad snowstorms a couple of those years, I guess it happens every year, neighborhoods seem to shut down when the snow plows don’t come through,

even the gyms were closed 😱 which was devastating to me at the time bc I couldn’t sit still and was always at the gym or running or biking when I wasn’t at work, and I couldn’t sit still,

so I was out there manually shoveling, My record was shoveling 13 hours in one day, I kid you not, an Epsom salt bath has never felt so good at the end of the day.

and while I was out there shoveling, one lady even asked me why I was doing that, I said because it’s exercise and it feels good and I’m clearing some spots which will be appreciated by at least a few people,

And I’m thinking in my mind

if everybody would come out here and do this, everybody shovel a few square feet of the street right in front of your own house, then we wouldn’t be snowed in. everybody would get amazing refreshing exercise, fresh air, community spirit & morale, and feel good and the streets would be clear in no time. Like ants can build huge sandmounds one grain of sand at a time, if we would just work together this wouldn’t be such a catastrophe.

But it doesn’t even occur to people that they could do that. Instead they sit around and do nothing and complain to the county about lack of snow plows, and they stay holed-up in their houses eating junk and getting fat. And when you’re fat and lazy, and you’ve clogged all your arteries with grease, that’s why you can’t shovel snow without breaking your back and getting a heart attack. That’s modern life.

LemmyKnowsBest,

I’m a heterosexual woman. So no.

Track_Shovel,

Well this is awkward.

13 hrs of shoveling is a fucking lot though. Even in my prime I would be gassed, and my previous job entailed hiking and digging holes all day.

Tbf, it probably has occurred to them, but then they ridicule the thought even if it derives from their own head. The group-think mindset can be brutal: they are going to be unhealthy for life and then die sooner, but you can’t even tell them there is any other way, nor does actively showing it work either:-(. Stay strong and cling to the better way!:-)

ITT: No one understands the benefits of renting over owning a home.

letsgo,

Well in theory it makes you more mobile (if you want/need to move for some reason): just give your landlord notice and move out. Whereas selling can take an indefinite amount of time.

JargonWagon,

Yeah, not to mention the responsibilities that a landlord has when it comes to maintenance on the property. I was saying no one else in this thread gets that there are benefits to renting, even though there are.

The Flying Squid is someone who contributes to Lemmy comment sections a ton. They’re super friendly and also add a lot of discussion. Given the nature of Lemmy being so small though they stand out because they’re often leading discussions. Pretty much just a really good discussion contributor who is super recognizable.

Disregarding acting ability, I don’t think Pattinson had the physicality for it; he didn’t look big enough to me to be believable. You could really tell the Batman costume had a lot of padding when you saw him as Bruce Wayne. I think he’s just too lithe, for the lack of a better descriptor, for the character, you know?

0ops,

I’ve heard that the Batman was supposed to show a younger, less-experienced Batman. So maybe he’ll bulk up more for the next one, idk

Grandwolf319, in Hill to die on

I mean, Patterson was good but bail is iconic. The dark knight trilogy were so big, it made most movies gritty.

jagoan,

Unpopular opinion: Bale happened to be the Batman of the best Batman movie, his Batman is kinda meh. And I wish Afflect was in better Batman movies.

altima_neo, (edited )
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

Shame they aren’t still using him. He makes a good, grizzled Batman that just doesn’t play around anymore.

CodexArcanum,

Now that you call it out, I agree! Bale gets a lot of praise for his ability to morph his body for different roles, but is otherwise only alright as an actor. But he happens to be in many great movies with other iconic figures which really elevates his cachet.

Affleck is pretty good. I also really liked Pattenson’s emo sad-Bruce version quite a bit more than I expected to. For me, nothing will ever be as nostalgic and iconic as the Tim/Conroy animated portrayal.

SupraMario,

I was a fan of the dark Knight trilogy and thought no one is topping this, but Pattenson nailed it. I honestly like his Batman better now, and hope they continue with it.

scytale,

Batfleck definitely has the look and is more comic “accurate”. I’m sure he would’ve killed it in a better film and not directed by Snyder.

RQG,

using pre minced garlic means being a bad cook??

op is the true bad cook here

MasterNerd,
@MasterNerd@lemm.ee avatar

Tbf minced garlic isn’t great imo - granulated garlic works much better but this is some weird shade to be throwing around

MentalEdge, (edited )
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

While it does work, it’s the form of garlic that is the most destructive to the flavor compounds in garlic. Hence most cooks who know something about garlic, avoid it. Garlic powder and flakes are the most effective preserved forms of it.

But even with that this “meme” doesn’t have a leg to stand on. You can make do with pre-minced garlic, though you’ll end up with a lot more of it in your dish to get the same taste.

Drusas, in Cooking

To those who use the jarred garlic, you should try getting a small food processor. It makes getting a bunch of minced garlic a breeze, and there really is a big difference.

KinglyWeevil,

It isn’t the cutting it that’s the problem for me, it’s the peeling

NoIWontPickaName,

Hammer it, pull the peels off real easy, five dollar Walmart garlic press

i_stole_ur_taco,

If you don’t want to crush them with the side of a knife to loosen the peels (it works great but then the squashed garlic is hard to hold if you’re grating it), a trick I saw was to chop the bottoms off the cloves and then throw them in the microwave for 10-20 seconds. The skins start to fall right off and peel like magic.

meowMix2525,

tbh I’m not sure if nuked garlic is going to be much better than pre-minced and jarred garlic

meowMix2525,

I also hate the smell that lingers on my hands for days after touching it. Would much rather just scoop it with a tablespoon and call it a day.

GreyEyedGhost,

You’re not wrong, but just about everything I’ve read says in most cases the difference is too small to matter. So if you’re looking for convenience or less spoilage, this gives you that with almost no downside.

31337,

Wow, that’s a little too impressive. I’m guessing that image was probably in its training set (or each individual image). There are open training sets with adversarial images, and these images may have come from them. Every time I’ve tried to use ChatGPT with images it has kinda failed (on electronic schematics, plant classification, images of complex math equations, etc). I’m kind of surprised OpenAI doesn’t just offload some tasks to purpose-built models (an OCR or a classification model like inaturalist’s would’ve performed better in some of my tests).

Mirodir,

This exact image (without the caption-header of course) was on one of the slides for one of the machine-learning related courses at my college, so I assume it’s definitely out there somewhere and also was likely part of the training sets used by OpenAI. Also, the image in those slides has a different watermark at the bottom left, so it’s fair to assume it’s made its rounds.

Contradictory to this post, it was used as an example for a problem that machine learning can solve far better than any algorithms humans would come up with.
