Why is vegan lingo so infantile? Veggies. You can cram you veggies up your asshole. I’m having a burger.

can,

Tons of people say veggies. Including meat eaters.

TheOakTree, (edited )

I also think it’s worth noting that the meme says “veggie burgers.”

I don’t think I’ve ever seenveggie burgers, vegan restaurant or not, labelled as “vegetable burgers.” Dude wanted to be upset just to be upset lmao.

zalgotext,

Really? That’s the angle you’re going for? Lmao you’re offended by the word “veggies”, a word nearly universally used by nearly every English speaker? Uh oh, looks like your fragile masculinity is showing

Never forget? In some states it’s downright illegal to teach kids that complex, sophisticated and civilized societies existed here before white people showed up.

A_Union_of_Kobolds,

I’ve been reading 1491 by Charles C Mann and telling my 14yo a lot of what I’ve been learning, it’s a fascinating book. We live in the rural southern Appalachians and I know for damn sure those teachers aren’t including nuance with their history.

So far it I’ve been digging it. There’s a pretty steady pilgrimage from X to threads. Loads of people try to keep it from turning into “X” and that always shows up in the feed. So it is pretty reassuring like that. And reminders to start blocking or muting people now to keep a positive vibe going and your own sanity. It’s been kinda nice like that.

And I’ve only managed to piss off one person and that was by total mistake. We cool now.

Are they really so cheap that they want their shitty box back?

rustycheesi3,
@rustycheesi3@lemmy.world avatar

i thinks its about proper recycling, its nice if you dont have the environment to do it in the area in which you live. if you are able to, then its irrelevant.

Sabre363,

I feel like the cost of loading up a truck and return shipping it would very quickly outweigh the benefit of recycling unless it was done in bulk. Besides, if it was about recycling, then damage would be irrelevant.

rustycheesi3,
@rustycheesi3@lemmy.world avatar

some of them have collection boxes standing around, which only get emptied once a week or even less regularly. but yes, there is probably some like you described too.

7355608,

When I did shipping and receiving we did exactly that. We’d make bales of cardboard in our baleing machine and stack the bales in shipping container and sent it back. They paid the store like $20 bucks per bale.

Where I lived at the time all shipping containers came in and went out on the barge so filling them up vs having them empty was a negligible cost difference according to the shipping company.

Nioxic, in May as well buy burgers in the US, since you already paid for most of it through taxes!

Beef is more nutritious though.

So giving subsidies for that means more people can afford good nutritious food.

Blackrook7,

I read that veggie burgers/ processed vegetarian foods have more human DNA in them than traditional options. Plus beef is delicious and nutritious.

Pipoca,

If you knead bread by hand, it’ll have some human DNA in it from e.g your skin cells. It’s almost impossible to cook or process food while preventing it from getting literally any human cells into it, because humans are shedding cells and DNA literally all the time. You can wear gloves, hairnets, and frequently mop up, but eliminating the problem entirely is hard.

Both a vegetarian burger and a beef burger are probably going to have more human DNA in it than either a steak or a pot of black beans would.

SnowdenHeroOfOurTime,

Lasik

Misconduct,

You gotta grandma that shit up and get the little grippers that go on the arms of the glasses behind your ears. I’m telling you it’s game changing. They’re basically goggles because they no longer yeet themselves off your face. If only there was a solution to them fogging up with masks. I’ve tried so many things that go in or over masks and they never work. Absolute rage point for me I can’t stand it. I switch to contacts for masks now so I can retain my sanity.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@pawb.social avatar

Ah, that was never my problem with glasses.

The problem is that I am a very sweaty, oily person by nature.

The interaction between this and the glasses is that the oils get into those little nose pad thingies and eventually into my eyes, causing immense eye irritation. The only way to avoid it is to take a break every hour to wash face and glasses lest my eyes turn read and teary.

Generally annoying, doubly so given how ADHD I am and my tendency to either hyperfocus and forget about it entirely until I straight up can’t see, or to move off a task only to find myself unable to start it again.

And right now I can afford to only wear my glasses if I’m like. Doing a lot of reading with really tiny text or if I’m driving (which I rarely do because I’m fortunate enough to work from home and live at a place where most services are accessible by foot) – But my eyesight has a tendency to worsen as I age, and I have no idea how I’ll cope once it gets so bad I need them all the time.

Misconduct,

Ah yeah I hear that. Just FYI a lot of people with “oily” skin actually have very dry skin that’s producing extra oil to compensate. Happened to me I was told my skin was oily my whole life until a few years ago. Against everything I believed I tried some moisturizer at the suggestion of someone on reddit and it was like getting new skin over the course of a couple weeks. HUGE difference. Same thing for my scalp. Shampoo etc for oily hair wasn’t working because my scalp wasn’t oily. It was making it more dry and making the oil problem worse lmao. Just throwing that out there because it was a real game changer for me. Nowadays it’s super rare for me to get that terrible burning in my eyeballs from my stupid face oil.

I do recommend anyone reading this to get face moisturizer specifically. Especially if you don’t like the feel of lotion because it’s usually a lot less greasy and rubs in better. Get some cheap stuff and give it a shot you never know.

Edit to also mention that I stopped suffering from pretty bad face face acne, which I’d suffered from for decades, with this change too.

The bottom picture isn’t accurate, I live on a reservation that isn’t listed.

If there’s one mistake I notice immediately there’s definitely more.

BingoBangoBongo,

There’s a ton missing. The point still stands, but the bottom map is more like “places that are 70%+” indigenous people, rather than a comprehensive list. Is mislabeled to make a point, which is a stupid thing to do.

ArgentRaven,

Additionally, most of Oklahoma is still various reservation lands. That was a recent court ruling, so I suspect this is a few years old.

Someology,
@Someology@lemmy.world avatar

Call them on the telephone, and tell a human you would like to make a reservation. Telephone voice calls still work at every restaurant in my region. Also, get this, you can place take out orders that way at most places! It’s an amazing technology!

LostWon,

I’ve found it can also be cheaper to place the order by phone than by an online ordering (middleman) service.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

even worse is any deals are on downloaded apps. F that. The only good effect for me with that is its an effective way to identify and avoid corporate type institutions as they are top in using it.

hiramfromthechi,
@hiramfromthechi@lemmy.world avatar

You should vocalize it to the owner (or at least management) if you can. You’d be surprised what comes of it.

I did this once with a restaurant/bar owner, and she was very understanding. Once I took the time to explain how I didn’t wanna be subjected to everything that a setup like that brings, she empathized and actually got a standalone website.

Many people aren’t aware until you make em aware. And whether they feel the same or not from a consumer standpoint, at least they’ll know that there’s people out there who do care, and it affects business. And usually, if it affects business, it doesn’t matter what their personal feelings towards it are. A good business owner will be sure to adjust because they learned something new about the market.

KpntAutismus, in haha, im in danger
