Yeah if it’s something your manager would get fired for it should take a president out of office almost immediately tbh. There’s a chain of command for a reason and it would actually make the role of VP mildly substantial lol.
He used his power and position to take advantage of an intern. Maybe you should care.
Most people that make it to the level of a president have done really shitty things, while this one wasn’t at the top of the list, it’s still pretty bad. Sucks that most of the hate and jokes were pushed towards the victim instead of the perpetrator.
Someone explain this to me? Hamas is a terrorist group the controls the Palestinians in Gaza. They are not representive of most Palestinians. So this feels like an easy, “yes I condemn Hamas, but also the Palestinian people are being screwed by the Israeli government”
Most people don't have an issue with it. But starting each interview with a question: "Do you condemn Al-Qaeda?" is sinister. It is not a good faith question.
If you are asked this question each time you want to speak about atrocities committed against civilians and have to proclaim that you do not in fact support terrorists, you have the right to be offended. Especially when the person asking you that question cannot condemn cutting off water to civilians.
After 9/11, thousands of Arabs living peacefully in the US were asked to condemn Al-Qaeda, which they did because who wouldn't? That condemnation and support was used to justify attacking Iraq - the country where Al-Qaeda was not located in, and resulted in the death of a million people there. Imagine being an American Iraqi supporting the US's right to "defend itself" and seeing your family in Iraq and their children being killed.
There is a level of analogy here where a person with relatives in Gaza is asked by interviewers that question while trying to advocate to not cut water or bomb one of the most densely populated places in the region.
You have the right to be offended if people start asking you to condemn segregation, Nazism, or bigotry when you never claimed that you don't have an issue with those things. Especially when the person asking you is using it as a tactic while you are trying to alarm about human rights being violated, and civilians / children being hurt.
The meme is that westerners care more that that the people that are seeing their kids murdered condemn the only (while very imperfect) group that is helping them instead of focusing on the fact that kids are being murdered.
America is a white supremacist nation, if you click that option you won’t be able to get your flight. In any civilized nation such an option would be illegal (as it’s not their fucking business) but because they’re a shithole country with no oversight, they get to fuck people over their views.
Its not healthy to be so angry on the internet. You should cook dinner with your mom instead. Do it with her not for her. She will appreciate the time you spend with her.
I don’t have a story in particular, but any time there’s any critique directed towards my boss he will make up some excuse for his actions. It seems like he takes any critique as a personal attack and obviously the critic in question is the problem while refusing to address the substance of said critique. Makes it impossible for any improvement to occur and is very exhausting.
Showing them they defend every single critique… is a critique. I’ve emphasized in so many ways how what they did wasn’t a big deal, how I’m not mad, how it’s ok and it’s a nothing-burger. I’ve given them literal scripts of what they could say. I’ve sent articles, videos, infographics that could help them understand and ways to be able to accept that what they did was a mistake an that it won’t make them a pariah. Telling them dozens of examples of times when I or anyone else has made a mistake and then apologized and fixed it when it was pointed out and everything was fine… nothing.
They don’t change. Like you said, the critique is the problem, it’s not the problem that’s the problem to them.
Just own it, make it right, and let some time heal any embarrassment that’s felt.
so that’s 1:27:30 when accounting for minutes instead of fractional ten-hours.
that is, of course if it’s a 10 hour DAY clock; if it’s a 10 hour am/pm clock then it’s 2.91666 6’s repeating fractional ten-am/pm-hours which is 2:54:59 am.
If you scroll the main lemmy feed and get even a few pages down you’ll undoubtedly start encountering tons of AI art/porn lemmy communities. I block each one but it’s like whack-a-mole
I’ve definitely seen those, but never sailor moon specifically. I also don’t block them since I’ve already scrolled down far enough that there usually isn’t really any good content left to find at that point.
At work in my department they told us we can put decorations in our (at home!) office but to try and stay religiously neutral. Meanwhile in my friend’s department (same employer) they got an email to wish employees a happy Easter back in April, happy Mawlid (celebration of Muhammad’s birth) back in September and happy Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah in October…
I’m an atheist so I don’t celebrate any of these things and to me holidays should just be spread equally to give people long weekends, but I can’t help but laugh at the hypocrisy when it comes to Christmas compared to all other holidays through the year…
That’s honestly refreshing to hear that your friends department encouraged them to celebrate multiple different religious holidays. There shouldn’t be any problem celebrating religious holidays as long as they are all given equal considerations and the company doesnt play favorites.
To me anything religious should be treated as such, something private that has nothing to do with your workplace and only secular holidays should exist considering holidays are imposed by the government and there’s supposed to be a separation of religion and State (in my country anyway), but I know my opinion on this subject is pretty extreme.
The holidays we have are so commercialized they hardly feel religious to me. Christmas and Easter are just times to spend with family, nothing to do with Jesus.
Then people should have no issue with them being moved around so the holidays are equally divided throughout the year, right? There’s no importance to them happening on the specific dates they do at the moment, right?
There’s only five true public holidays applied throughout the whole of Canada
Quebec has their National holiday but no civic holiday. Only four provinces out of ten (two of those only for government employees), the territories and jobs under federal jurisdiction have the truth and remembrance day.
Even counting all of them there’s a big hole after the new year and the next one is… Good Friday which is 100% religious…
But at the federal level that’s 12 holidays that could be separated to get rid of religious holidays and to give everyone one long weekend every month!
What annoys me, and I’m Jewish ethnically but I’m an atheist, is the commercialization of Hanukkah. It wasn’t even a major Jewish holiday. People just decided, “well, it’s near Christmas and they used to give raisins. Good enough.” I mean just make up a new holiday or something.
My favorite is downvoting both sides of a political discussion when both sides have stopped citing interesting arguments/facts, and have devolved to name calling or some variant of “don’t care”.
It’s a relatively new (became applicable in 2022) thing called price indication directive. The TLDR is what the other guy said, the only addition is that member states can set different rules for certain goods.
Wouldn’t a loophole be to relist something to include some extra trinket with the main product (e.g. lens cleaner with a camera) and argue the “new” listing is something completely different than before?
Or raise the price 31 days prior, and “drastically discount” it after. It seems like a cool policy in theory, but it also sounds like it doesn’t really have any teeth. Like a “political theater” kind of law. But who’s to say, maybe it could be someone’s poli-sci thesis some day.
Or I’m just dumb and don’t understand something fundamental about it; I also except that
It seems like a difficult thing to regulate. I hope that this can be a starting point that will be potentially expanded later as needed, but we’ll see.
Maybe the 30 day decrease in profit would be worth the additional units sold later (possibly at a slightly elevated price), due to the marketing of a perceived “deal”.
I guess there’s a lot of variables that could come into play (type of product, inventory, how many units need to sell over a time period to break even, etc), but it doesn’t seem implausible, so much as it does dependent. But idk, I still can’t figure out how the fuck magnets work, let alone accounting
Oh… Im so sorry to hear that. Second thing I do is check the second hand stores near me. I have one that validates their products and offers a 1 year warranty on the second hand stuff I buy from them, and it’s kind of awesome. They even rate the quality.
Yeah I don’t have to pretend that the actions that helped elect Trump are understandable. They’re selfish and/or moronic actions that fuck everyone over

Like so. Like I said, I’m voting for Biden. But that won’t stop you from pontificating. Just keep going like lecturing me will change other people’s minds. Thank you for the additional confirmation that lemmy’s centrists are every bit the same as they are on reddit.
Forgive all us sinners who don’t like bad ideas spreading, we definitely have no reason
I’m voting for Biden. (You’ll continue to ignore this and keep scolding.) I also know that the party is losing voters it needs because it keeps taking them for granted.
This is a problem. “Shut up and be happy” won’t solve it.
When your next condescending self-righteous reply is done, the problem I described will remain.
I can’t force you to understand that other people have different standards for who they will vote for than yours. That’s not a shitty idea. That’s recognizing the political reality as it exists. Democrats are gonna need the votes of these people.
As a recent example, I can imagine someone who came here as a refugee being hesitant to vote for someone who funds bombing refugee camps. I’m sure you’ll yell at me for having enough empathy to understand that.
There are certainly people out there who will never understand that you can only maintain a diverse coalition through solidarity. By an astounding coincidence, they all seem to think that solidarity is something the party can demand from its constituents but can disregard in the other direction without consequence.
In any event, you don’t understand because you’re not here to understand. You’re here to browbeat. You’re doing a fantastic job of acting exactly like this is reddit.
You’ve adequately demonstrated what happens when someone deviates from centrist orthodoxy on lemmy. I thank you for your participation and will now withdraw mine.
Your repeated mention of centrism is bizarre, as is how monumentally condescending you are being while asserting you’re the victim of such.
I am not a centrist, that’s what apparently you want to be. Centrism is just giving a name to choosing ignorance and pretending it makes you a super advanced genius
Depends. Nicer to men? Probably. Nicer to women? Hell. No.
Can’t count how many times I’ve seen people call out things like body shaming of men, but do the same thing to women and suddenly it’s a “natural expression of human sexuality.”
I suppose it’s just the end result of any community dominated by an extreme majority of men, but it sure as hell doesn’t feel good and has made me heavily consider deleting my account and just finally giving up on social media entirely.
The repost bots were probably needed to kickstart Lemmy with content, but now I feel like they are preventing a natural growth of the communities.
As it is now I feel that they add a layer of confusion to new members, they have made several Lemmy communities looking like vast empty cities, there are new content, but no people commenting or voting.
If any admin is reading tjis, please consider scaling back the repost bots.
I don’t browse All because of this , but I did sub to simpsonsshitposts and yeah, just that one tends to dominate, even though most of the posts are indeed what it says on the tin, ie stupid worthless crap.
Back before web browsers had ad-blocking extensions, we had programs like Web Washer. It was a local, ad-blocking proxy program that you ran along side your browser. To use it, you just changed your browser’s network settings to point to Web Washer. And the ads would be filtered before they even reached your browser. It would be no problem to implement this again.
It’s a proxy though, so it could inspect the actual content, detect ads and do something about it. Peertube, Grayjay etc bypass ads just fine so I guess it could be done with the webapp?
