Ouf. Please close port 80. And if this is not a web server, close any ports for inbound traffic and implement a spi capable firewall.

I think the file upload size limit could become a problem in my case, at least in terms of posting the complete ACLs.

We’ve recently managed to come down to only ~1.4k VLANs though, and the network firewall pair for our server networks now only handles ~600 SPB services.

Fosheze,

Oh my god. A butt plug that contains something that breaks down the fart smell. From what I can tell the stink component of farts (hydrogen sulfide) can react with a carbon catalyst and oxygen to produce elemental sulphur and water. So you just need a butt plug with an activated charcoal filter plus something to bind the sulphur to eliminate the smell. Even better, because your fart is passing through the chambers of the butt plug there will be no noise. So every fart will be silent and stinkless.

superguy,

They do that to make the list long enough that you tune it out. They have to list the downsides , and are only able to mention benefits that have been proven to help with approved uses.
They don’t have to communicate the actual likelihood of the risks or benefits, or communicate the risks in a way that conveys their gravity.

So they can leave out the part where most insomnia medication only gets you 15 more minutes of sleep, and lump the 75% chance it’ll leave you so groggy the next day you can’t drive a car in with “if you’re allergic to it, taking it is bad”.
Because you were warned. “Most people will experience improved sleep duration. May cause lingering fatigue. Do not take if you are allergic to it”.

wildginger,

Everything okay, sweden?

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

I belive we have really strict gambling laws, one of the reasons we never got arcade halls here. Online casinos and such don’t count though, it seems. It feels like half a dozen pop up each week.

Socsa,

Sweden has blackjack tables outside the bathroom in lots of bars so you can play while standing in line. Or at least they did the last time I was there.

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, and my go to Chinese restaurant had two slot machines. They can have these things but they can’t be the primary income of the establishment.

Ergo no casinos or arcade halls, but blackjack at a bar is fine.

GreyEyedGhost,

I love the idea of equating arcades with gambling. In one you will always lose your money, and the better you are the longer you can play. In the other, the skill element is much less relevant.

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

I legit never understood that one myself. I think it’s a mix of laws that make it infeasible.

Game machines are not allowed to be an establishments main source of income. This I think is targeted at gambling machines, slots and the like, because gambling is heavily regulated by the state, but naturally that also made arcades nigh impossible to run.

I believe there’s also some sort of law about the amount of such machines an establishment may have. Again, to prevent casino type establishments from existing. You can’t really run an arcade hall with two or three machines.

Then a more recent law enforces such machines to also give you a receipt? I dunno I didn’t read too closely, but I suppose machines of that kind don’t tend to have that sort of functionality meaning if you wanted to have an arcade hall here you’d need to custom order the machines.

It’s just not economically feasible.

And the most ridiculous thing is that while there’s not much in the way of physical gambling here, there are so many internet casinos I can’t properly convey how ridiculous it is. Like imagine an incredulous amount and it’s still more than that.

And the government is perfectly okay with that. They’re such incompetent buffoons.

UnverifiedAPK,

Is listening to the radio still popular in Sweden or is it dying off like in the US?

dojan,
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

My roomie’s a trucker, he listens to the radio a lot. Otherwise I’ve no idea, don’t think you listen to the radio outside of when you’re in a car.

Discombobulated_Back,

And maybe the super market if i dont have my own headphones on i get blasted with advertising radio of the supermarket. Nowhere else i hear radio.

Building a great mobile website is much harder than building a great mobile app, so I understand when they just don’t build a great website to begin with, but taking away an existing website, yeah, that sucks.

bleistift2,

Building a great mobile website is much harder than building a great mobile app

Are you a web developer and an equally good app developer to make such a statement?

hperrin,

Yes.

ChaoticNeutralCzech,

I have doubts. Great website developers often make a half-assed app by wrapping the website in a crippled browser. The T-Mobile app is not even subtle about this, there was a URL bar in the version I last used.

hperrin,

You’re talking about Cordova. Cordova can actually be pretty good, if it’s made well (for example, the Voyager Lemmy app is a Cordova app), but no, I make apps with native UIs.

ChaoticNeutralCzech, (edited )

You need one anyway for desktop users. A desktop-first website will usually be more accessible and easier to onboard, especially for infrequent users.

Example: To track a package, a certain store emailed me a button whose destination is this monster of a URL:

<span style="color:#323232;">https://labia.page.link/?link=https://order.fart.cum/cz/history/%23/lookup?orderId%3D4206913372%26lid%3DAE91DCC0397DEADBEEF42069ACAB707BE6A1800B5ACEFAC3AAC3C14159265359&amp;apn=com.labia.fart.app&amp;afl=https://order.fart.cum/cz/cs/purchases/4206913372/?lid=AE91DCC0397DEADBEEF42069ACAB707BE6A1800B5ACEFAC3AAC3C14159265359&amp;ibi=cum.labia.fart.app&amp;ifl=https://order.fart.cum/cz/cs/purchases/4206913372/?lid=AE91DCC0397DEADBEEF42069ACAB707BE6A1800B5ACEFAC3AAC3C14159265359&amp;ofl=https://order.fart.cum/cz/cs/purchases/4206913372/?lid=AE91DCC0397DEADBEEF42069ACAB707BE6A1800B5ACEFAC3AAC3C14159265359&amp;imv=1.24.0&amp;amv=2915
</span>

(Numbers and some strings were changed but the gist and 604-character length remains.)

The main function of such a long URL is to redirect desktop users to https://order.fart.cum/cz/cs/purchases/4206913372/ to see the tracking info while mobile users get directed to the app store to get an app (or view the link in the app if they have it). These are (probably) Google Firebase links and they’re absolutely terrible. While they make life slightly easier for existing app users (saves one click but only if they go through the email), this implementation makes it way harder for others to reach the content. Either you get the app, log in there and part with fucking 300 MB of storage, or if you have no mainstream App Store, storage or time, you are forced to do a workaround: Desktop Mode (that may or may not work), rewriting the URL (difficult because it’s so long and includes https: several times, may require hex-decoding), or finding a computer. All this just to check one order from a store you’ll forget about next week.

I have demonstrated that instead of just getting sent the desktop-friendly URL (and perhaps seeing a floating “Open in app” button at the destination), most users are put through extra nuisance that took effort to implement. Sure, some customers are frequent enough to use the app while most are happy with a website but once the business invests in the app, they will absolutely make sure everyone is pushed there despite it being less convenient for both parties.

GeneralVincent,

(Numbers and some strings were changed but the gist and 604-character length remains.)

Sooooo… were “labia.fart.cum” parts that were changed, or…??

ChaoticNeutralCzech, (edited )

Sure, go to labia.fart.cum. But you’ll only get the full Fart.cum^®^ experience with the Fart Labia™ app!

jaybone,

You’ll be hearing from the lawyers at queef.org

hperrin,

Most apps would do fine without a website. Most everyone has a phone, but a fair number of people don’t have a desktop or laptop. And pretty much everyone who has a desktop or laptop also has a phone.

A number of currently popular apps don’t have a website, let alone a mobile friendly website.

bleistift2, (edited )

You’re missing the main point: A web app works for both desktop and phone users. A mobile app doesn’t.

And I, for one, don’t have a smart phone, though I’ll admit I’m lonely in this position.

ChaoticNeutralCzech,

You are not 100% alone. I technically have a smartphone but use it as a mini (5") tablet. My SIM is in a feature phone because greedy T-Mobile (Telekom in Deutschland) will not give me more than 1 MB/day for a decent price.

hperrin,

A webapp sometimes works fine for phone users. There are things that websites can’t do on mobile. For example, on iOS, only the latest OS version has support for push notifications from PWAs, and even then, they can’t make noise or vibrations. They are always delivered silently. PWAs are also always rendered with WebKit on iOS. WebKit doesn’t support a number of features.

Yes, a mobile app doesn’t help desktop users, but there are waaaaaaaay more mobile users than desktop users.

bleistift2,

they can’t make noise or vibrations

https://feddit.de/pictrs/image/0bc55706-5be1-48c3-8462-2d9f8b37d4ec.png

hperrin,

I mean, for an email app, that’s kind of a big deal.

bleistift2,

Only if you absolutely need some crucial bit of information the moment it arrives, in which case, email isn’t for you, since messages can take up to 3 days to arrive.

hperrin,

I like having noisy push notifications for certain emails. I apologize if that’s not ok.

ChaoticNeutralCzech, (edited )

That depends on what kind of service you provide.

Games more complex than 2048, video calls? Sure.
Short video platform? Maybe.
Commerce? Absolutely not.

hperrin,

Yes, that’s why I said most instead of all. And to be clear, I’m not a fan of apps without websites, that’s just how things are.

bleistift2,

extra nuisance that took effort to implement

I think this point needs to be stressed more. It is dead simple to write a website that works well on mobile phones. In fact, the first ever website, without CSS, without any JS, without fancy HTML5 features, is mobile friendly: info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

It’s only when you start adding useless bells and whistles like floating shit in from left and right, tons of animations, side-by-side displays, overlays and whatnot that you need to start being competent to make it work on mobile.

ChaoticNeutralCzech,

You are correct. I once tried to develop a multi-platform web app and getting the touch events right was a pain. But a somewhat basic ESP32 setup website worked on mobile without extra effort.

100% its so cringe, im ok with the fantasy aspect of it, cause it does take some skill, but the odds are just straight up gambling no if ands or buts. I dont know how gamblers in recovery even watch sports anymore… so glad i got addicted to gambling on stocks with wallstreets bets and learned my expensive lesson so that sports can stay pure for me and not tainted by my addictive personality.

Socsa,

The fantasy games are just how they get kids hooked. It’s very obvious to me as someone who has always kind of felt like fantasy takes some purity out of the fandom, that this has been a long term plan to normalize this kind of “skill” game so they can create exactly that pipeline.

But I mean, its probably just a crazy conspiracy theory that the NFL already had branded endorsement deals ready to go with a dozen different gambling houses immediately when the Supreme Court cleared the way for all this shit.

For example

sudo cp ./Downloads/archlinux-2023-09-01.iso /dev/sdb

I love it because it just works on any linux machine, always. Of course, this is maybe not fit for your usecase.

You can also use dd, tee or even echo, the archwiki has a good section on flashing iso’s.
