Absolutely black and I feel you. I’m 38. If I dare call my mom by her first name one, I’ll get obliterated on the spot.
Now that I think about it, the only people I ever heard calling their moms by their first names were white. But it must be like… 2% ? And people I mostly hang out with happen to be white. So it’s kinda biased.
minority of people comment, most of users just upvote/downvote/ignore the post and move on. so its “weird” to be in comments, but its also just weird to expect people who have something to say not to be verly invested
Here on lemmy sure and that’s what’s killing it. Someone just shared a Reddit post recently about outfitting their home with Ethernet and there were 140 helpful comments. That type of contribution is what makes it good.
I’m a trans woman. Before I transitioned, the grand total number of compliments I ever received was a big fat 0. Now I receive at least one compliment from strangers every week.
Also a trans woman, same experience. Somehow getting compliments all the time has been one of the hardest parts to adjust to. Dunno how to respond to them, and can’t distinguish which ones are creepy because they all feel good after so long of getting none.
