This is just how China is with anything that isn’t China

dustyData,

This is how China treats some Chinese people as well.

creditCrazy,
@creditCrazy@lemmy.world avatar

Yea the only reason they haven’t attacked the UK or the us is because they are ether worried that they might actually be able to fight back or they just haven’t gotten around to it yet

angrymouse,

Luckily us that US, and UK have a history of respecting everyone’s territory lol.

I cant understand how someone can see China as a threat but not US, UK or France, the 3 biggest colonial states right now (only if you are north-american, then I can understand).

Countries from South America and Africa are right now receiving technology from China, what was constantly denied by Europe and US to keep us as modern colonies, maybe this is why ppl from rich countries are so afraid of Communism

Liska,
@Liska@feddit.de avatar

Yeah, sure, but don’t whine and complain to the US and Europeans when you are being surveilled, dehumanised and slaughtered in the future either by the Chinese themselves or by your corrupt, “democratically elected” leaders bribed by the PRC with its slave labour money. The “West” has certainly done some terrible things to the peoples of this world in the past - especially during colonialism - but compared to modern China or its “best buddies” (Russia, Iran, North Korea and all the other current autocratic fuckers in the world), (i) most of its citizens and officials have at least given up on imperialistic and national chauvinistic thinking and ideology and (ii) are not constantly trying to violently revise the legal international order (Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Tibet, South China Sea, etc.) by any violent or covert means possible!

To avoid unnecessary discussion, I would like to point out that I fully recognise the West’s illegitimate and unethical interference in the second and third world in the past and present. But two wrongs do not make a right - every nation, power or entity is still subject to the same rules, norms and principles!

angrymouse, (edited )

“democratically elected” leaders bribed by the PRC with its slave labour money.

Dude, you are just ignoring reality, you are accusing Chinese government of doing exactly what McCarthyism did all around the world, why were someone disagrees with Europe and US politics and align it is automatically “leaders bribed by the PRC”? Why in your mind third world countries can’t have an strong opinion? Why they can’t try even be socialist?

most of its citizens and officials have at least given up on imperialistic and national chauvinistic thinking and ideology

Where are you living my dude? France is just refusing to accept the new Niger government and trying everything to support their deposed ally. The entire western world is public denying Palestinians right to defend themselves and sometimes comparing Arabs as animals. Cuba embargo it is still a thing after 51 years after the missile crisis. Iraq invasion is 2003 Libya was put in a bloody civil war for groups backed by Obama government, creating the biggest migratory issue since the Jews with Nazism. In 2013, leaked documents PROVED that US spied several governments, including countries like Brazil. The judge that tried to imprison Lula had close ties with FBI. Elon Musk publicly expressed support of the Bolivian failed coup, nothing related to the fact that Bolivia has on of the biggest Lithium reserves.

I would like to point out that I fully recognise the West’s illegitimate and unethical interference in the second and third world in the past and present.

No you don´t, you explicit said above you don’t.

But two wrongs do not make a right

I totally agree here but you should make accusations based in reality, not based on some idealization you have about the countries. The way you put is like China is a bloody dictatorship that colonizes ppl, and on the west we have beautiful democracies and help his friends to grow flowers. And pls, I beg you to not come with the “at least we can complain publicly” cause ppl starving are not heard anyway, ppl incarcerated in US are not heard, the mothers and childrens separated in the US border are not heard, the ppl leaving leaving wars in Libya and Siria, created by western backed groups are not heard, ppl with jobs living in the streets cause they cannot pay rent are not heard.

Reducing a complex country like China as a “dictatorship” is just creating an idealized view of the world to criticize someone that we don’t know, to criticize a nation like they were incapable of self determination. You can disagree with everything but it is still a country that raised the life expectancy from 43 in 1950 to 2 years close to US in 2023. And exactly because this I disagree completely when you see western has abandoned chauvinism, cause I see this meme and your comment as chauvinist as fuck. Ppl here acting like Hong Kong was a Paradise before the handover to China, the issue with Hong Kong democracy dates from (oh the irony, the domain of the state by UK) before 97, where only around 40%-50% of the population was allowed to vote, and this remains until today.

Russia, Iran, North Korea and all the other current autocratic fuckers in the world

This is just a moral argument, US and Europe have great relationships with Saudi Arabia, a country that allegedly killed an journalist in foreign territory. And I ask you what would they do? Ally with US that have a think tanks like VOC, specialized in creating fake news about china? You also forgot, the entire South-America, Africa and Oceania are very close to China. Seems just like another country doing things that benefits them, exactly like everyone.

are not constantly trying to violently revise the legal international order

There is 750 US military bases in 80 countries in the world. US literally invaded 2 countries in the past 20 years and financed at least 3 coup attempts recently.

Tibet

You said you were not looking into the past but are getting Tibet from 1951 as an example. Lets talk about what US made to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia?

Again, you say you “recognize” but you don´t. You seems to say this only to keep your moral superiority, you chose to ignore what western did and KEEPS doing, just to reinforce your idealized version of the world. And I’m not even discussing that most of the western countries aren’t even functional democracies. I don’t think you do this on purpose, don´t take this as a personal attack, it’s not my intention. But from a third world born, your take seems like an adolescent discussing geopolitics in the school. The world is not an Ideal place and all countries are fighting each other, military or not, and China is no exception, and the ideal world you seems to believe does not exists.

spacecowboy,

Every dig you take at China is something the US is currently or has previously done.

Man I’ve been in Mexico for a month and still haven’t had an actual solid shit. It’s not the typical spicy meme, as the food rarely has what I’d call spice. I think it’s the oils and such. Very oily and meat heavy. Even the vegetarian options are still oily.

BUT I did find a Japanese restaurant with a Japanese toilet that even lifts the lid for you. What an ass saver.

(And no, I’m not drinking the tap water)

EatYouWell,

It’s still the water, since they use it to cook the food. Your gut just isn’t used to the foreign bacteria.

RagingHungryPanda,

Oh yep. That makes sense.

ThirdWorldOrder,

I have one of those Toto toilets in my house. Worth the $

Worst shits I've ever had wasn't from Mexican food. Gas, yes, I don't do beans all that well.

Worst shits, that would be Indian food, at some street stall in India.

And it's not like it gave me food poisoning either, I was feeling perfectly fine.

But the poop an hour later was like an explosion of liquid poop.

And the smell. Still the worst thing I've ever smelled and I've been up close to a corpse flower and eaten Surströmming.

florge,

It probably wasn’t the food that was the problem but the water used in it.

Fiivemacs,

Also an hour later wouldn’t be the food they just consumed since it takes longer to pass through your system.

mingistech,
@mingistech@lemmy.world avatar

If you eat something loaded with bacteria, like Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus cereus your intestinal track reacts very quickly to start clearing your system. It’s basically clearing the runway to get the infected waste out.

I_Fart_Glitter,

I didn’t eat meat for 25 years, so I’ve just gotten used to ordering everything at Taco Bell with “beans instead of meat.” Same experience- extra flatulence, yes. Meme worthy diarrhea, definitely not. But then recently they got my order wrong and it was all meat. I eat meat now, so I figured why make a fuss, just eat it. I learned that day what the memes were about.

Spotify has a thumbs down button?

    Fades,

Yeah because that’s reasonable… give me a fuck break

How many times you gonna sit there thumbing down tracks when listening to random? What if you actually like the song?

Not to ruin the joke or anything, but 100% there is Mexican food in Japan.

    EatYouWell,

Also, if Mexican food gives you that many problems, you should probably see a doctor or quit eating Mexican food.

    Or buy some Chipotle Away

    cm0002, (edited )

You can go through self checkout and lie at the “How many bags did you use” lol

    Patches,

    Wait… That’s illegal

    jaybone,

    You wouldn’t download a bag.

    rattking,
    @rattking@lemmy.ml avatar

Anybody got a link to that grocerybag.stl?

    bronzle,

At my grocery store it asks you, “How many bags would you like to purchase?”

    Patches,

And you say 0 because that is always the amount you desire to purchase.

If it was regular check out I might have to purchase them but I certainly would not LIKE to do so.

    Baku,

The grocery stores in my country make you scan a barcode on the bag every time. “Luckily” they pay their staff minimum wage and treat them like crap, so you can usually start bagging your stuff and most of the time nobody cares (not that I’d know from experience or anything)

BURN, in It's just the most 100 recently saved songs. The fuck.

And since they removed my playlist radio, song discoverability has gone down so much. They just keep playing me the same damn music when I want related stuff.

    Deuces,

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they got rid of playlist radio. It makes Spotify so much worse and I can’t imagine it saves them any money

    BURN,

Probably some over complicated statistical model that will eek out cents more revenue per user.

It’s one of the worst changes they’ve made and it’s legitimately been making me take another look at all of their competitors.

    ghostdoggtv,

Why does any corporation decide anything ever? It’s the money, Lebowski

    DudeDudenson,

For the same reason all the streaming sites decided to gimp their discoverability and just force you into whatever the algorithm thinks you need.

Some middle manager wanted to justify their bonus so they jumped in the current fad

    tslnox,

I don’t use any streaming service, instead YouTube Vanced or NewPipe when I want to make a queue… But I absolutely hate that the algorithm chooses whatever it wants no matter what you play, and it’s just randomly chosen out of one of the few songs I played before. Also I sometimes play the one+ hour long compilations either to sleep (Nemo’s Dreamscapes) or fantasy music and YouTube decided that auto play will always choose one of those after playing anything (rock, metal, country, folk, name it, it doesn’t matter)

Show them you care more about what they say than how they say it.

Rentlar, (edited ) in I've unfortunately made this mistake at Costco of all places.

Costco doesn’t even have baskets, at least the one I go to. So it’s either carry by hand or a cart. So I carry by hand, which keeps me from overspending every trip because I can only carry like 4 or 5 things. I buy for myself only anyway so it’s usually enough for the week.

    stankmut,

Costco doesn’t have hand baskets anywhere. The word basket in the image refers to the cart.
