Thehalfjew, in One of the claims on this Belvita packaging only appears in English

I love the discussion here as to possible reasons why the labeling is different.

That said, there’s a very good chance it’s just because the initial version had 3, got translated, then someone added a 4th item and it never got translated.

paddytokey,

I know someone responsible for these labels and descriptions for a fairly large company, can absolutely confirm this will happen a lot. The product has to go out to the stores and there is just no time to get these translation anymore. I also know of products that shipped to large stores with false information on the label, knowingly because changing it would take too much time and money.

kitonthenet, in Man reviews Whiskey while his wife is packing her stuff and leaving him in the background

Tbf the laphroaig 10 year is a really good bottle

TheFonz,

Laphroaig 10 is currently my favorite. Burnt electric wire that fires up every sense. Love it.

superkret,

Tastes like a burnt-down hospital by the seashore.

lingh0e,

gowan,
@gowan@reddthat.com avatar

IMO I prefer quarter cask

lingh0e,

The Wee Beasty is also very very good. My local shop has a couple of $100+ releases from Laphroaig that seem more trendy than anything else, but I’m still tempted. My wife would probably leave me if she knew I was willing to go into triple digits MSRP for a bottle… which is probably how we ended up with this thread.

I used to think Laphroaig was the poor man’s Lagavulin, but now I don’t believe there’s a single poor man’s thing about the brand.

funkless_eck,

joke comments aside, I always go back to it. familiar, comforting, pricey enough to be special, but not crazy enough to feel guilty.

rog,

I love a good single malt, but im not a fan of laphroig. Too peaty.

CarbonatedPastaSauce,

Agreed. I love scotch and slightly peaty is ok but Laphroig tastes like somebody put a cigarette out in the bottle before pouring your drink.

Fungah,

It’s great isn’t it?

CarbonatedPastaSauce,

DSFDF!

just_another_person, in in Australia, when we pay taxes, we get a receipt. The receipt shows what our taxes were spent on

This is pretty great. This should be happening everywhere.

Nesola,

That’s what I thought. I bet that would raise understanding of federal purposes

Singar,

I get one from the US gov. It looks like:

Military spending ======================== Other =

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

My favorite thing about budget breakdowns in the US is how often pundits list defense spending as a percentage of GNP (gross national product) rather than as a percentage of the annual budget. Nothing else in the budget ever gets this kind of favorable treatment (which makes it appear smaller than it actually is) except sometimes debt service.

TyrionsNose,

I don’t think that’s favorable treatment. Defense is 3%. Social Security is 5%. Medicaid and Medicare is also 5%.

We can afford our defense budget and make the country better for the common person by utilizing our funds more efficiently and/or moving to universal healthcare.

I love that tiny wee slice of corporate income tax compared to personal

dragonflyteaparty,

Interesting that the Medicare has a note that the amount includes offsetting receipts like premiums.

Catoblepas, in Wild Pigs of Europe Are Highly Radioactive

chalk-full of radioactive cesium

Do they not have editors anymore, or are they just worked to death? I swear I see minor but annoying errors like this in a huge portion of online news media now.

Nitpicking aside, I wonder if similar studies have been done on feral boar in the southwest US, where there has also been historical nuclear weapons testing?

clearedtoland,

It really has been getting worse and worse. I’m not in publishing but I’m pretty sure they (most modern media) post first and edit later, if ever.

Noodle07,

When an edit could instead be an entire different mediocre article published the choice is easy

NoufauxRiche,

So relieved to see someone else mention this, was starting to question whether I’m just being neurotic when little errors like this have me concerned about whether the underlying content is being thoroughly reviewed

CuddlyCassowary,

dynamojoe,

Naah, they’re all in a rush to be the first to press with the Radioactive Pig scoop.

adeoxymus, in Chinese people picked the first logo they found for ARC having no idea what is that

I don’t get it

Kehalo,

That looks to be a logo of an abrasives company, not something for Audio Return Channel.

5473MP4RRit,

I still don’t get it

T156,

They looked up “ARC”, and grabbed the first logo they found, not noticing that it was for a completely different company/product instead of the proper one for the HDMI feature.

5473MP4RRit,

Oooh! Fuck me. I’m an idiot. I didn’t zoom in on the image. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Thanks. Sorry.

oatscoop,

There’s probably an overflow spillway for the whole pond out of frame.

Shou,

Correct. That bridge is meant to flex on water control. This is near a place that is susceptible to river floods.

MCk3, in At Safeway right now, it's Halloween up to aisle 13 and Christmas from there on.

And it’s September. /c/mildlyinfuriating

Son_of_dad,

They wouldn’t do it if people weren’t buying it

chemicalprophet,

The stupid are so…stupid😒

MCk3,

People wouldn’t be buying it if they didn’t do it. This is on the stores

DeepFriedDresden,

Lol what. If people weren't buying it, they wouldn't ship it out this early and stock it this early. Anybody with basic business sense would think, what if we put out xmas a week earlier than last year? And then it sells, so they do it again and again until the sales of xmas items don't cover the cost of liquidating the the summer items.

Why would they not want to maximize sales? If there's a demand, it's in their best interest to supply.
