Currently on Earth for 8 years ensuring steps to unite humanity and usher us into the galactic civilization just so I can see my boyfriend again.

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

I only get a new phone when my current phone just dies. The hardware for even the best phones out there really doesn’t change much even in 5 year spans. It’s actually kind of annoying. The biggest difference between the phone I have now and the first smart phone I ever had is a few hundred cycles faster CPU and it has 4 cameras instead of just 2.

I wish these things were like a desktop PC and I could just buy parts and build it myself so I could have the raw power I want.

No difference between 4GB of RAM and 12GB

You… You’re serious? I guess if you’re a super casual user, it won’t matter. But if you want to do more at once, you need more RAM. Shit, even if you don’t more RAM does make a difference when the apps start consuming more and more as time goes on.

Does working as a security guard and having the company that contracted your company trying to get you to basically be their own personal police force count? I worked for a security company hired by Longs and the loss prevention manager of the Longs kept trying to get us to do things that, in California anyway, are illegal as a security guard. Such as digging through someone’s personal belongings. We can ask to look inside, but not touch, and we really can’t force them to comply. We could not arrest people. We couldn’t have weapons (not even allowed to carry a pocket knife while on duty with our guard cards). Little Napoleonic complex motherfucker didn’t care. He would insist that it was legal and we would just tell him to talk to our boss because he isn’t our supervisor, manager or even part of our company.

One of my favorite Brian Regan bits kinda fits, maybe?

“In 1939, Germany invaded Poland. One thing led to another and the United States of America dropped two atomic bombs on the sovereign nation of Japan.”

I only ever used Reddit. Now I’m here.

Unless you count Steam Friends and actual text messages sent via SMS as social media.

I’m all about Jack in the Box/Arby’s curly fries.

I don’t know why they are always separate things on these tho. They are literally the same fries.

Those Taco Bell fries are also pretty damn good. I didn’t expect much (because it’s Taco Bell) but God damn! They’re like the best potatoes you can get at TB.

Didn’t like the Popeye’s sweet potato fries at all. I love sweet potato, but… That’s not the flavor I seek with french fries. Too sweet for something that my brain associates with salty only.

Every other fry is just kinda… There. They don’t suck, they’re just not amazing.

I know the fries are good, but Rally’s/Checkers is pretty rare out here; what’s the guarantee?

Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

Does the reddit style format inherently make for a toxic environment? Or is it a culture of toxicity from the influx of reditors? For lack of a beter example, on stackoverflow, when someone down votes you, it comes with a comment saying how to improve. On mastodon, people can’t downvote you. These platforms are a joy to use,...

I don’t think the format had anything to do with it, considering it was much more like Lemmy is now when I first joined 11 years ago and I’ve seen the same decline in other social mediums that didn’t share formats as Reddit. It’s just what happens when you get enough people together in one place. The abundance of dumb fucks and bad actors simply take over.

I’ve always felt that my willpower is the only thing I have any strength in. The trouble is, that in order to exercise my will, I must concentrate on doing so. With ADHD focusing on anything can be hard as fuck if there’s too many distractions. So I eliminate the distractions (or as many as I possibly can).

What's your favorite rabbit hole to go down?

I was just watching Titanic and spent 20 minutes looking up the effects of hypothermia and discovering that Jack may have been alive and in stage 3 hypothermia when Rose let go, and because he sank instead of floated, he was in fact alive. It was a fun little time sink. What rabbit holes have you done down recently?

This was the first thing I assumed would happen when they announced the API pricing. A lot of spam prevention and deletion is done by bots that use the API, made by people that likely can’t pay the new exorbitant fees to keep those going.
